Wordle crisis

CurlewKate · 23/09/2025 22:19

I’ve just discovered that my starting word, that I have used for nearly 4 years, has already been The Word. So I need a new one. And I can’t choose!

OP posts:

My starter word that I've been using for the past year or so was the Wordle word a couple of weeks ago (NOISY), but I haven't come up with a new regular starter yet.... what to choose?

I usually pick a starter that I know hasn't been used and stick with it until it comes up - it can take a long time! I've had 3 (or 4?) Ones.

mysoulmio · 23/09/2025 22:31

Mine has already come up but I still find it useful? (Earth) In fact I got it in 2 today!

DistantConstellation · 23/09/2025 22:31

I'll tell you mine then edit it out so you don't have to see it if you don't want

BotterMon · 23/09/2025 22:32

My starter word hasn't come up in all the time I've been playing - probs around 3 years?

Wildchild60s · 23/09/2025 22:33

Do people have the same starter word all the time? I pick a new starter word every day!

Wowwee1234 · 23/09/2025 22:34

I have a list so I can change it up from time to time. But not sharing it, sorry!

Try and find words with two or three vowels plus any of C, P, L, R, T, N, S .

mummymetalhead · 23/09/2025 22:35

My starter word came up earlier this year but I still use it as it’s really useful. It’s AISLE.

I do (usually). It's given me 3 or 4 ones (I've changed phone so can't quite remember). No idea if that's a good ratio of ones though 🤔

menopausalmare · 23/09/2025 22:37

I usually go for STARE or ABOUT. ADORE was an old favourite. The other day, I randomly chose CHAIR and got it first time.

Why? It's not like it's a competition that only person can win Confused

The Wordle bot uses SLATE. I use that too so that I can compare my results with the bot. (The bot is available if you subscribe to the NYT puzzles - worth it IMO at around £3 per month).

Oh that's an ideal word, nice one.

Mine is RAISE, I was buzzing when it came up, still use it every time though.

atiaofthejulii · 23/09/2025 22:42

I read ages ago that getting consonants was more useful than getting vowels (no idea whether this is actually true) so I changed from often using ADIEU or similar, to using a word with only one vowel. I tend to just pick it depending on how I'm feeling on the day or what has happened (not a first thing in the morning player).

Yes I think consonants are more useful. I pick a word that I’ve heard or read that day.

No but I spent a lot of time on my list so it feels personal somehow 😆

BeRoseSloth · 23/09/2025 23:04

About or aloud.

BeHappySloth · 23/09/2025 23:06

I used to use ADIEU but I switched to SLATE and it's definitely more efficient. I reckon STARE is pretty good too.

DistantConstellation · 23/09/2025 23:11

STARE, ALOUD, and ABOUT have been the answer already. As has SLATE!
Depends how much you care about the day you get it in one Grin I've done it a couple of times now.

Emori · 23/09/2025 23:12

I vary between TREND and AULOI depending on if I'm in a consonant or vowel kind of mood.

I used to use STARE but I got it in one a while ago! I tend to use STEAM now. COUGH if that doesn’t bring anything up.

I think that's true. From my perspective, getting it in one is sheer luck so I don't really care about that at all. Getting it in 2 usually involves a fair bit of luck as well, so it isn't that satisfying. I therefore aim to get it in 3, so my first two guesses are focused on that goal. This means that I often choose a second word that definitely can't be the answer in order to raise my prospects of getting it in the next go.

FlexiSadie · 23/09/2025 23:20

I use a different one every time in the hope that one day I'll get it on the first attempt 😂

tinyspiny · 23/09/2025 23:22

We pick a new word every night

R0ckandHardPlace · 23/09/2025 23:29

I usually go with CHASM or PILOT. I got today’s in two.
