Just that.

It won’t be good even if this is the case.

Yes, I agree it's bad for Afghan women. But no money coming from her husband would be worse,

Because I thought the headlines on Radio 4 were accurate and not a bit warped. I heard "People are having to cook things in a shower" and thought: "What now?"
Your advice would to be check everything I hear on BBC radio on the internet, would it? Or to buy every newspaper available to read every article?

PS It wasn't mentioned it came from an article so how would I know how to check it? It was reported as fact.

Edited

But you didn't even explain what you'd heard or why you were asking such a
odd question. You just assumed everyone was listening to the radio like you.

She can't what, live?

Yes, I agree, it's no life.

It's no life for any female, they have no human rights whatsoever and it's shocking that women die for want of care in childbirth, not because there aren't midwives, but because they're not allowed to practice. Oh, and male medics can't touch them. That's the Taliban for you.

Yes, I agree, it's no life.

She can't live alone. She wouldn't survive.

Yes, it's horrible.

The Afghan Red Crescent is one of the charities I donate to. I am looking for a charity that specifically helps Afghan women.

They probably didn't realise it would take years for their case to be decided.

They would’ve been told that from the moment they step foot and by the first official that they saw

LaMarschallin · 23/09/2025 13:59

You're right as it turns out.
I totally thought people would be bright enough to know what I was talking about and I was wrong.
Believe me, I'm crushed. I've started a thread that lets me get dissed by stupid people. Jolly wish I hadn't 🤦🏻‍♀️

Rude.

we are not thick or stupid because we weren't listening to the radio at the same time as you & you posted a daft question with NO information.

most of us were busy at 11am, not just waking up.

why wasn't your instinct the think 'what?' Then to google it or look at a news site, instead of just starting a weird thread on here.

its not US who are stupid!!

They would have been told their case will take 9 years? No one can know that.

EasternStandard · 24/09/2025 19:10

It seems even more random now. A woman in Afghanistan has no way to get here under reunification now, even if the husband does get here.

A few are brought over from France in a scheme but most are paying high profit traffickers. It is a vast level of activity rn

LaMarschallin · 24/09/2025 20:28

I'd listened to the radio at 8 am then I fed the cat, washed my sink, cleaned the hob, went out and did some shopping.
Then came home and thought "What was that all about?" and made my, admittedly daft, post.

its not US who are stupid

I'm sure you're right.
(I'm dyslexic but have learned to use apostrophes. It wasn't easy but it's possible 😉
Not saying the inability to use apostrophes means people who can't are thick - I wish I'd been born with the ability but, like many others, I wasn't. Anyway, people can still read what you write)

I heard that bulletin @LaMarschallin - it did not quite convey the story. But its only because I recognize the journalists name (she does amazing work, the Shadow Worlds podcast on iplayer is great) that I thought there was going to be a lot more to the story.

I wish I had recognised the journalist, explained my post more and had researched a bit more. I really thought it was about people using showers to cook (like some people use dishwashers to cook salmon, for instance). Posters are now using this thread to express views that aren't mine and being, frankly, a bit unpleasant to me.
I've said I'm sorry I didn't read the article, I've said I'm sorry I didn't explain my post more.
Thanks for saying you'd heard it, I was beginning to think I was hallucinating.
