@oncemoreuntothebeachdearfriends

Your mum's sweet version of the famous Mumsnet chicken! - I'm impressed 😊

I can beat the MN chicken.
I could make 1/4 lb of mince (113g) stretch to 3 meals for 2 people.
I discovered lentils - rather reluctantly at that tinme.

Yes, I seem to recall it being somewhere between a Lion Bar and Double Decker?

Yes..that's the one. I've just googled it and someone is actually selling one that's been in the freezer 😳 🙃 wtf?

madaboutpurple · 21/09/2025 19:44

Pear drops and chocolate limes please. This is going to be expensive by the look of things so we all need to pay in advance!

BitSilly · 21/09/2025 19:47

Hang on a mo, if I getting these for you all, can someone at least get me Big Daz's number, I've saved up all my 10p coins swiped them from my dad's pockets so tell him I'll call tonight from the phone box outside the chippy.

The Chelsea Whopper is very difficult to describe but utterly delicious. Not too sweet, a slightly fudgy texture. Soooo good! Could I trade you one for a bit of your Caramac?

Oh go on then! Want an Old English Spangle?

As in, been in their freezer since circa 1979?

SmugglersHaunt · 21/09/2025 19:51

Cola cubes please

madaboutpurple · 21/09/2025 19:51

This is a most popular subject ,it looks like we all have our favourites and we are getting reminded of sweets from the past, my mum used to give me a piece of mars bar never a whole one.

What exactly is "a quarter"? People at my secondary school use to go to the shop for a quarter of cola bottles at lunchtime, and I never plucked up the courage to ask what unit of measurement the quarter was in. I always wondered.

Oh, for when you could make a phone call for 2p... you could when my age was in single figures, I remember using the call box outside the police station down the road from us.

Ihateboris · 21/09/2025 19:51

They were reintroduced for a short time in 2006, so it's been in the freezer for almost 10 years 🤣🤣🤣

LightsDifficulty · 21/09/2025 19:51

It was 23p to get the bus to school when I was in secondary.

ParanoidGynodroid · 21/09/2025 19:52

Oh, another request for soor plooms please!
Maybe a few cola cubes too?

Because teeth are overrated.

Quarter of a pound, i.e. 4 ounces

A quarter of a pound aka 4 ounces, around 120 grammes.

Well, if you actually enjoy having the skin scraped off the roof of your mouth... 😕

BlackeyedSusan · 21/09/2025 19:56

Ooo hark at you...must be well off to get a quarter. Was limited to two ounces. :(

Midget gems or sherbet pips.

While you are there a packet of spangles and those candy cigarettes.

BartonInthebeans · 21/09/2025 19:57

Coltsfoot rock please!

menopausalfart · 21/09/2025 19:58

I also loved sweet tobacco.

BitOutOfPractice · 21/09/2025 19:58

Tea cakes please

DinoLil · 21/09/2025 19:58

The mixed up sweets where they threw all of the last bits in the tubs into one! I can't remember what they were called. Just the best because it was different every time, a mix of everything.

And if you didn't have enough money for a quarter then just 2oz please.

Oooooh happy, innocent times.
