Cap on a first date?

pinenuts75 · 20/09/2025 18:21

Don’t know if it’s me or not, I went on a first date today only a coffee, and he wore a baseball cap the entire time, would this put you off? I thought he might have took it off.

Did you sit outside?

maslinpan · 20/09/2025 18:24

You are a bit strange to be bothered by that.

TomatoSandwiches · 20/09/2025 18:24

If he didn't take it off inside then he is either ignorant and has no manners or is going bald and has a complex about it or something else.

It would definitely put me off.

Oh, haha. I thought this was going to be about contraceptive, should you be prepared. Depending on age,my oldest DS went bald at 20, he was so self conscious,he always wore a hat of some sort, usually a proper tweed flat cap. I know 2 people very well, not saying too much,a woman 60 bloke 75,who both wear baseball caps all the time, regardless of the occasion it outfit and I want to knock them off! So unless you're both 16, yes it would.

No33 · 20/09/2025 18:28

That would put me off

I bet he was hiding his bald patch.

Why?

GreenCat12 · 20/09/2025 18:32

I wouldn't date a man who wore a baseball cap on a date. I want a proper grown up man, not a teenage boy!

Tollington · 20/09/2025 18:32

Caps are chavvy.

SummerFrog25 · 20/09/2025 18:33

As you were inside I'd be a bit put off by that, especially at his age

Thinandbare · 20/09/2025 18:33

I know someone whose husband wears one ALL the time inside and out. Posh restaurants, hotels, friends houses - everywhere. I always feel sorry for her, she must be so embarrassed. He’s semi-well known and I assume he’s hiding his baldness as still wants to ‘be down with the kids.’

FionnulaTheCooler · 20/09/2025 18:34

Another vote for probably covering up hair loss. I see so many men in the gym exercising with a cap or beanie hat on presumably for the same reason because their heads must be roasting with it on.

pinenuts75 · 20/09/2025 18:37

Thing is the date went really well, he was polite and we have a lot in common, if I see him again I might ask him if he always wears it 😂

OP posts:
Thinandbare · 20/09/2025 18:40

I’d give him a date two if that’s the only issue!

TheChosenTwo · 20/09/2025 18:43

Strange behaviour, I always think it’s bad manners wearing a hat indoors.
But I suspect it’s covering up a bald patch or something that he’s insecure about.

😭😭😭 i was gonna say, ive seen late 20s guys look hot in a baseball cap

52! Chuck him back! xx

Pollqueen · 20/09/2025 18:46

Was he wearing it back to front?

Pollqueen · 20/09/2025 18:47

Aka Brookyln Beckham?

This is a weird and very angry assumption to make. No wonder half of mumsnet is angry and single

imagine the outrage if a man told a woman how to dress

lifeontheroundabout · 20/09/2025 18:48

I used to think years ago that this would be rude but I've lived long enough to see that every casual encounter where you're somewhere having a coffee or a burger, going for a walk, sitting around together, that unless the date has come straight from work and is in more formal clothing ,that it's perfectly acceptable.
Wearing a comfortable and favourite cap is as much a part of a person's personality and usual dress sense as wearing a pair of jeans is in most situations.

KnickerlessParsons · 20/09/2025 18:50

Men shouldn’t wear hats indoors. But even outdoors I would have liked him to take it off on a first date.

Onegingerhead · 20/09/2025 18:54

Bald patch no doubt. Or full time bald.
Would probably put me off. I like men who carry it with pride and I quite fancy Statham
