Morning, Omazers!

What are your thoughts on the new Surrey house?

https://omaze.co.uk/pages/surrey-ii?utm_content=cta1&utm_source=Klaviyo&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=HO_SUR2H43_Launch_PaidSubs&utm_id=01K59FMYHQ0MPEYB3NF2CEEVM7&content=uk_test&term=house&_kx=5E_oZ0CxbPdqteKXGk0MCHyV2H5uhnOpCDFn4US1prSJuX_QwnRF7X4muKsKz-bn.NAdKub

It's another flat roofed one, with lots of glass, but I haven't looked more closely. I'll be back when I've grabbed some coffee and had a nose around.

A mile or so from me. Not big enough for 4 mill IMO. Don’t like the decor. I’d be happy to win it but I’m not sure anyone would be willing to buy it as not good value for money round here - probably why it’s an omaze house 😄

Pinkcherry26 · 18/09/2025 10:35

I fell off my solid oak indoor bike laughing. If ever a house was all fur coat and no knickers, it's that one.

KelsCommemorativeSausage · 18/09/2025 10:39

Oh no thank you. It looks like a high end rehab facility at the start of a psychological horror film.

There is a lot of outdoor furniture. I know I say this every time, but don't people with all that going on outside live in fear of rain? It would take ages to collect it all in and put it 'somewhere' (there never seem to be storage facilities for huge teak tables and canvas chairs), by which time the sun may have come out, and you'd be ready to collapse onto the lounger you've just folded and put away. There is always garden furniture aplenty, but never wardrobes or bedroom storage on show, so it's hard to picture actually living there. Do you get dressed from a pile on the floor and head outside for the day? That might work for a couple of weeks in July, but won't be great in November - or for most of the year.

@ResusciAnnie is it connected to the outside world? The Omaze houses are so often isolated, and I like to be in walking distance of facilities - at least a pub/restaurant and a supermarket or corner shop, but preferably a town centre.

Pools and gyms put me off. I could repurpose the gym, but outdoor pools seem like too much work for too little return in the UK.

So for me the jury is still out. I wouldn't turn it down if I won, but it's far from being a favourite. I wish they'd move from the flat roof/glass style more often.

It doesn’t look very big for your four million pounds, although I guess location is everything. I mean, it’s only four bed… .

ResusciAnnie · 18/09/2025 10:53

I don’t know where that exact house is but it would likely be a drive to a shop. We’re in a good location according to most, because very close to amenities (Guildford 10 mins away) but also you can be in the depths of the countryside too.

Very true there is basically nowhere to store anything!!

FurForksSake · 18/09/2025 10:56

Hmmmm it’s not my taste but I think we’d live in this one due to location. And I could do a lot with the outside space.

coronafiona · 18/09/2025 10:58

I wouldn’t say no to it!

Nellieinthebarn · 18/09/2025 11:18

Well I'd happily live in it for a while once I've sold this one. I wouldn't want to pay capital gains tax just selling it straight away without it being my main residence.

Trouble is living in a very posh house might grow on me, but I'd have to sell it really.

With that money I could set up all the kids mortgage free, and still have a decent place for myself.

I doubt its worth 4 mil though, but free money is free money, so I'd be happy with 3 - 3.5 for a quick sale. Which is quite big of me really. 😂

AlohaRose · 18/09/2025 11:19

To be fair, the master bedroom has an entire dressing room and one of the other rooms is also listed as a dressing room so I don’t think the lack of wardrobes is a huge issue! The house is obviously been staged to look at its best for photos, hence the lack of wardrobes, drawers, shelving etc but from the photos there is plenty of room to add whatever you wish. If I won the house, I certainly wouldn’t be throwing it back for that reason!

BrieAndChilli · 18/09/2025 11:28

i really don't like the fact that all the bedrooms look directly over the pool area- means everyone can look in or you have to close your curtains.

That's true, and as I said, I would be happy to win it. My comment was more about the staging, which never makes the houses seem remotely practical. Estate agents always say that buyers should be able to imagine living in the houses they view, and my thoughts when looking at the Omaze houses are always around keeping the glass clean, stopping birds and animals pooing in the pool, all the outside furniture and where to put my stuff 🥳

I do have a subscription though, so it hasn't put me off.

I don’t like the outdoor walled area outside the bedroom; it looks like a facility. I’d be delighted to win it, but it wouldn’t be home - it’s a box of money with a roof on.

I know someone who recently sold their house for £3m. It’s a much nicer, far bigger house with more land than this Omaze one. It also has an extensive outbuildings, own forest etc. But it’s in the south west. So this must be down to location, and possibly because it’s a newly built property. Can’t say I’m keen on all the glass and wouldn’t want a property with a flat roof.

DiscoHippo · 18/09/2025 12:48

There was a recent interview with the US founder of Omaze who said that they were finding it increasingly difficult to source houses over here that were suitable as prizes. But then you go onto a site like The Modern House and there are some absolutely exquisite ones which aren’t always as expensive as the prize ones but would set people up in exquisite, and sustainable, living situations. I also wish they’d be a little more creative with the decor; they clearly have a formula that works, but some of the houses have looked - to me - worse for their Omaze makeover.

RattyNeighbours · 18/09/2025 13:23

The bedrooms are smaller than the ones in my end terrace. I'd have to use the dressing room as a bedroom instead, as it's bigger.

There's a lot of garden, but it looks like most of it is unlevel, so not very usable.

Astroturfer · 18/09/2025 13:37

I love modern. When it’s done well. But the Omaze modern look like a weird semi upmarket version of Barrett homes.

FurForksSake · 18/09/2025 13:55

I’m thinking an architect could re-do the bedrooms to be much better use of space.

moresoup · 18/09/2025 18:25

Has anyone figured out the location yet?

I agree I am a bit tired of the box type houses and their weird layouts (if you are going to build a new build why not at least give it a good floor plan), but I would love a home with a pool

Silverbirchleaf · 18/09/2025 18:28

So south east of Guildford.

Yup, the Omaze page says between Shamley Green and Shere.

Agree about all that outside furniture and also the decor. What with global warming, all the glass will make the house very hot. I’d happily buy tickets for a more realistic house, one of those Modern House ones, as PP said.
