A downstairs toilet and a dishwasher would revolutionise my life!

A lift.
Not a stair lift a real one. I’m 81 and now find the stairs hard going.
We have what I think is the perfect location for one and once we have finished declutterring we will get some estimates.

Does anyone here have one or can offer thoughts?

I have a Stiltz lift-we had it installed for my late husband in 2018. It cost £12,000 then. Apart from people, it's very useful to bringing anything heavy between floors. It's a self-contained unit, they fit a dedicated power socket for it, and it only took 2 days to install; including cutting a hole in the floor. https://www.stiltz.co.uk/blog/product/how-much-do-uk-domestic-lifts-cost/

I would love a large laundry room, not a little new build utility, but a large one with a creel and a big Belfast sink and benches and shelves and where I could leave an ironing board up. One with some kind of boiler in it, or sun trap, so it was a giant airing cupboard/room.

Coffeeandcake32 · 17/09/2025 08:07

A utility room! We moved from a much bigger house complete with one to a smaller house in a nicer area and I miss it on the daily

Bonjovispyjamas · 17/09/2025 08:22

More rooms, been stuck in a studio flat for years as it's all I can afford.

Another bathroom. Log burner

Same

Ciri · 17/09/2025 08:52

I also want another log burner but we are hopefully doing that this year. I have one in the living room but would like one at the other end of the house.

A cleaner for 3 hours a week….

People who notice (and deal with!) mess/washing up/recycling/laundry etc

Same!! Moved house and now have no utility and the kitchen isn’t great for storage (rest of house is fab!). The amount of random stuff I don’t know where to put!

Ilfurfante · 17/09/2025 12:33

Double glazing downstairs

Lobelia123 · 17/09/2025 12:37

I would absolutely love to have a walk in pantry. I love to cook but I also love clean surfaces with goodies and gadgets put away out of sight, and my cupboards are all under counter - it gets tedious bending and stretching and reaching to the back to try to find the salt or whatever.

Verv · 17/09/2025 12:48

Id also love an american style porch with rocking chair, but i live by the sea so think the salt would make it rot fast. :(

Thank you. The Stiltz lifts seem to be easiest to install.
We have a small downstairs room used as a study, which really means a dumping ground for post and magazines. It is immediately below a walk-in wardrobe which is the same size.
In my head it is an ideal spot for a lift to run up and down. Whether the Stiltz people agree remains to be seen.

Latenightreader · 17/09/2025 12:50

A dishwasher - I'm hoping to get one next year
A spare room - I really, really miss my old house which had far more space

OnceIn · 17/09/2025 12:51

A finished garden rather than mounds of soil

Marmite27 · 17/09/2025 12:53

Utility room, downstairs loo, 4th bedroom and a hallways I hate that you have to walk through the living room to get to the kitchen. Oh and a new stairs carpet, but that’s happening next week anyway.

We already have a log burner and I love it.

Giggorata · 17/09/2025 13:00

A huge American style basement.

(that means I can sneak in most of my wish list, which includes a downstairs loo and shower, a laundry/utility room and masses more storage)

Barton10 · 17/09/2025 13:13

A dog but DH doesn’t want one so it won’t happen

Utility room. It has a sink and draining board, washing machine, tumble drier, drying rack that hangs from the ceiling, loads of cupboards, space for the ironing board and useful space for boots.

This. And somewhere to dry the dogs off after a wet and muddy walk!

ilovepixie · 17/09/2025 13:21

David Beckham

NotMyRealAccount · 17/09/2025 13:21

Air conditioning, but I'd only use it on two or three days a year so it's not worth the expense.

Vera87 · 17/09/2025 13:22

More then one toilet
ensuite
another reception room

childofthe607080s · 17/09/2025 13:47

Oh I like the idea of a basement - likely cool in hot summers and dark in bright nights without the carbon footprint of air con
