I've got -£250 on my electric ccount now which is pretty good as we managed to pay off all the winter debt of £2k over the year.
When's everyone putting there's on? Do you hold off as long as possible?

I hold off as long as possible but, yesterday, I did succumb to two pairs of socks and a cardigan!

I think I'm about £100 in credit.

PurpleFlower1983 · 14/09/2025 07:11

I was tempted last night but I’m waiting until October. We’re £230 in credit at the moment.

StopRainingNow · 14/09/2025 07:12

£415 credit but I've just got an electric car so no doubt I need to put up my payments to get through winter!

Well done for paying off your debt.

Never before October and ideally late November for heating, depending on weather

It’s still very warm - 21C indoors overnight. Not even wearing jumpers indoors yet, will wear tracksuits, hoodies, socks and sit under blanket on sofa before heating goes on!

In credit.

IMissSparkling · 14/09/2025 07:14

A) no idea and B) no.

shellyleppard · 14/09/2025 07:14

£237 in credit. Heating is staying off for now..... just putting on extra layers. Well done on getting your backlog paid off x

Cryingatthegym · 14/09/2025 07:15

£133 in credit and it hasn't even occurred to me to put the heating on yet! I'm mentally still in summer, we have pulled out the heated blanket and oodies in the last week or so though.

PersephoneParlormaid · 14/09/2025 07:18

I like to be in credit by a months worth of DD and we are about that. No, heating not on here, I try to keep it off until October if I can, but may have to put it in to dry washing if this rain continues.

Zanzara · 14/09/2025 07:18

Currently a little in credit and using a small fan heater as necessary to avoid using my 40kW gas boiler.

TeenToTwenties · 14/09/2025 07:18

My DPs have just put their heating on, (home counties). DF has a heart condition which makes him feel cold and DM isn't very mobile. Would be very early for us but they need it.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 14/09/2025 07:19

About 2 months' dd worth of credit, but the heating went on yesterday. It's an old draughty house and if I let it get too cold it just gets damp.

distinctpossibility · 14/09/2025 07:19

Heating will go on during October half-term.

We are around £450 in credit but this will all get swallowed up by January!

ThirdStorm · 14/09/2025 07:20

£319 credit so I’m ready! But no heating allowed until October and I’ll hold off as long as possible too. Blankets, socks and jumpers first. Currently house is quite comfortable without.

Financial · 14/09/2025 07:20

We just pay the bill when it comes in.

We don’t put the central heating on until it gets really cold but have other heat sources.

StewkeyBlue · 14/09/2025 07:23

I pay for what I use, month by month, and live on state pension plus a small extra pension.

I just can’t afford to pay the high bills so the heating stays off until the beginning of November.

Though this year I might be a bit more generous as stuff went mouldy last winter. The first year I got state pension I was too young to get the WFA (you have to hit state pension age by Sept 28, my birthday is Oct 3rd) last year it was abolished, so this year I should get it and will definitely spend it on heating!

I don’t feel the cold too badly though wouldn’t occur to me to put it in at the moment, even if I was rich.

TheDandyLion · 14/09/2025 07:24

No heating yet. It's on but the thermostat hasn't kicked in yet. £600 in credit.

LoisGriffinskitchen · 14/09/2025 07:26

About £200 in credit. I did put the heating in yesterday for 30 mins just to test it and make sure it is working. All good. It’s cold this morning so I’ve got socks on and a fleecy hoodie over my PJs . Nice and cosy.

Kitchenbattle · 14/09/2025 07:26

We just pay the bill as it come in, we have a highly insulated house with electric air to water heating. We haven’t even turned it on yet, the house is still so so warm.

RedRiverShore5 · 14/09/2025 07:28

About £100 in credit, it's not that cold here, it was 19 yesterday evening in the house so I have just dug my cardigan out. It says 18 now but I will be quite busy doing stuff so won't need the heating on

trailmx · 14/09/2025 07:29

About £100 in credit.
Not needed heating yet, set to maintain house temp at 20c in the day so I never switch it on or off .Even in winter rarely comes on at night (set to 17c at night)

Mikart · 14/09/2025 07:30

£600 in credit. Had the heating on for an hour yesterday. We've reduced DDs from 175 to 100...our summer bills were under £75 . Looking forward to a warm winter.

Just wondering if a dehumidifier would help with the mould? X

Ginmonkeyagain · 14/09/2025 07:31

Heating? It's still 21 degrees inside and i was wearing a t shirt and jeans and had bare feet last night.

Westfacing · 14/09/2025 07:32

About £50 in credit - I never build up a large amount of credit as don't want my money in the energy company's account!

No heating on yet - I have the thermostat set at 21 so it will kick in when it's needed. Right now it's 8 outside which is the coldest start to the day so far this autumn (London).

Teachingagain · 14/09/2025 07:33

In credit. I put the fire on for a treat yesterday, the room temperature didn’t justify it but I have a cold and was tired which makes me feel cold.

Already in jumpers and have swapped from having windows open all day to just a couple of hours. Today I’m going to swap to winter duvets as the kids have been cold over night.
