What’s going on with Facebook?

All of a sudden my feed is literally all adverts and posts from suggested groups.

I’m seeing one post from a group I’m in then 19 ads/suggestions before the next post from a friend. Nineteen!

I don’t use it that often, just to use my local area group and to keep a line of contact for old acquaintances from school etc. but this is making it unusable and awfully frustrating.

Can someone help me figure out what is going on here and how to stop it?

Following - mine is exactly the same and I have no idea why?

rewardh · 13/09/2025 13:03

It’s been like that for a long time, years not months. Even when I see posts from friends they are days old. I only keep up with it for local news tbh

skyeisthelimit · 13/09/2025 13:08

Mine has been like it for a long time. It suggests pages and groups from all over the country that I have no interest in.

There doesn't seem to be any way of stopping it, although you can hide pages so they won't appear again.

It's no way as good as it used to be. I just want to see my friends posts and things I have actively followed.

UtterlyOtterly · 13/09/2025 13:28

I use FB for three or four groups I'm interested in. I ignore the feed and get to the groups on the search bar. That way I miss all the dross.

BollickyBill · 13/09/2025 13:30

Totally sick of it.

Whateverwillwedonow · 13/09/2025 13:32

I’ve been getting this. If I do see anything that I want to see (family, friends or groups that I’m in) it’s at least a few days old.

Owly11 · 13/09/2025 13:34

Mine was like this for years. That’s why I left Facebook and never looked back. It’s such a relief not to be checking it every day and scrolling through a load of crap that I don’t need to see.

CharlotteStreetW1 · 13/09/2025 13:44

Mine has been inundated with stuff related to our local football club recently. I wouldn't mind but we support their bitter rivals!

It's practically unusable now and I only use it to keep in touch with people and to show off with holiday pics.

PashaMinaMio · 13/09/2025 13:48

It’s passé now. Total rubbish albeit from time to time but rarely, I pick up useful information about activities I’m interested in. Travel etc.

It used to be so rewarding to see friends’ posts but it absolute dross now and has been for years.

purplehearts22 · 13/09/2025 14:00

Mines exactly the same and it started around may/june. I kept seeing posts and pictures from people all over the world and when I looked into it it’s because they have open pages. The other night I was scrolling through my feed and a really disturbing picture of a deformed dead kitten came up and its was from a poster on an open morbid group. I’m sorry but I don’t want to see that and why should I be forced to view without my consent? I’ve gone all through my settings and I can’t work out how to stop this happening. I’m blocking the pages and groups but then more are just coming through.

AchillesAndPatroclus · 13/09/2025 14:02

I noticed all the sponsored stuff starting to infiltrate the feed a good while ago, but it was nothing like it has been in the past couple of weeks.

Now there’s literally nothing I signed up for to be seen in the few scrolls you do before you lose interest, it’s madness.

I do hide them but they’re just replaced by more trash.

So there’s really no way out of it?

There’s a tab you can click for your feed to show just Friends.

Where?

jonthebatiste · 13/09/2025 15:26

It’s at the bottom of the page on my phone.

DevilsIvyy · 13/09/2025 15:35

Mines the same. There was a thread about it the other day.

LovelyBitOfSquirrrel · 13/09/2025 15:38

Same, full of sob stories in random groups which end in something mentioning a tedoo app.

Beaniebobbins · 13/09/2025 15:53

I had no idea you can change the feed settings. Just looked this up:

On a mobile device:

Open the Facebook app.
Tap the menu icon (three horizontal lines) in the bottom-right corner.
Tap on Feeds.
Select Friends to view only posts from your friends.

  • Facebook does not offer a permanent setting to default your feed to just friends. You'll need to select the "Friends" feed each time you log in to see this view, as the default is the algorithmic "All" feed.
  • You can bookmark the Friends feed page on a computer or add a shortcut to your phone's home screen for quicker access.

I might not give up on it after all!

MintTwirl · 13/09/2025 16:01

I’ve had this too. I need to have it for a few things or else I would delete liek I have with Twitter/Instagram.

Idontknowhatnametochoose · 13/09/2025 16:02

After seeing something horrific that I really wish I hadn't as it will stay with me forever I now refuse to scroll and literally just go to my groups from the search bar. I want to be a lot more in control of what I see snd not have that taken from me.

rainbowstardrops · 13/09/2025 16:05

Same. It’s bloody annoying. Sometimes I realise that I haven’t seen any posts from certain people for months and months and think they’ve deleted me, only to search their name and they’ve posted plenty!

SoScarletItWas · 13/09/2025 16:06

Mine started being particularly crap with the last update. If I click Feed at the bottom of the screen it’s better / fewer random pages. Will add a screenshot (wait for pic review…)

What’s going on with Facebook?
cramptramp · 13/09/2025 16:07

Perhaps it’s the algorithm. I find that if I don’t interact with friends posts, I no longer see them and get other things instead.

BogRollBOGOF · 13/09/2025 16:07

What I don't understand is why Meta want to deluge feeds so heavily to the point that people are deterred from using it.
Advertising- yes, I understand their financial gain.
Making it unpleasantly unusable- surely that's just slowly killing the goose that laid the golden egg.

i couldn’t agree more. Attention seeking to me is the naffest, uncoolest, most desperado behaviour one can participate in. Attention seeking 30, 40, 50 year olds are absolutely cringe and it’s full of those types of people. Yuck.

Rowgtfc72 · 13/09/2025 16:43

My feed insists on showing me things from 6 days ago. And absolutely random groups that an algorithm would never have picked from my previous choices.
