What’s going on with Facebook?

All of a sudden my feed is literally all adverts and posts from suggested groups.

I’m seeing one post from a group I’m in then 19 ads/suggestions before the next post from a friend. Nineteen!

I don’t use it that often, just to use my local area group and to keep a line of contact for old acquaintances from school etc. but this is making it unusable and awfully frustrating.

Can someone help me figure out what is going on here and how to stop it?

I think FB must look a little different for everyone. I don't have a feeds option on my main page. I have to do in by the 3 horizontal lines and pick feed from there but no friends option..

Because no one really uses Facebook anymore and they have to create digestible content for every time you view it. So it’s all random stuff because your friends aren’t posting. Then the more you interact with the random, the more random you get.

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 13/09/2025 17:09

I’ve got this too, about a year ago I spent lots of time hiding and snoozing suggested content until I finally got a feed full of posts from friends and groups I’m in (plus adverts, don’t really mind those and understand that’s how it’s funded), then a month later it was back to being unusable crap. So I just stopped opening it.

I think if you open it several times a day and constantly snooze suggested content, plus have friends who post daily, it works, but otherwise it ends up being unusable.

I don't have "friends" on FB at all, plenty in real life tho! I am a secret binger of the mad U.S. "Cop Cam" videos, I'm a member of a group for my medical condition, and another group for travel. I'm trying to improve my French so watch a few items from France. That'd be it. I have to say I haven't noticed the ads - more than usual anyway, but that may be due to the stuff I use there mostly.

bapples1 · 13/09/2025 17:25

Isn't it because no one really uses it anymore?

catsrus · 13/09/2025 17:27

You have to curate it - close down the things you don't want to see and interact with the things you want to see more of. The algorithms on all social media is designed to show you what it thinks you want to see.

Currently it thinks I want to see videos of a rather clever man showing owners of horses how to calm their fears about going into horse boxes....... just because I forwarded one video to my horsey friend. I could change that by not viewing them, hitting the X and closing them down quickly.

I'm interacting more in one of my hobby groups than the others, so it's showing me more posts from the group - it's no more active than the others, FB just thinks I'm more interested in it because I've interacted more.

go onto the actual pages of the friends you want to see more of, "like" photos, make comments on posts - you will then see more of them in your feed.

Every time I actually get to a friends post and open it I then get a notification that the friend has posted - it’s annoying!

Same. It’s bloody annoying. Sometimes I realise that I haven’t seen any posts from certain people for months and months and think they’ve deleted me, only to search their name and they’ve posted plenty!

@rainbowstardrops Same!

@BogRollBOGOF Exactly, why th would Fb want you to see less of friend’s news?!

@Beaniebobbins Where is it on a computer? I’ve never put the app on my phone.

Choosing the friends feed as described upthread is your best bet. Every third item will be an advert (no exaggeration) but it's still an improvement. Otherwise you're scrolling past perhaps 10 adverts and "suggested for you" shite before you'll see a single post from any of your friends. It also helps to select the dots at the top right of the suggested content and choose the not interested option.

I miss old Facebook, full of news and comments from friends.

I don’t know, I don’t use it in a computer. On my phone it’s an option in the bit where memories are.
