Ocado - how many bags do you reckon….?

Is always the question they ask when you’re handing them back. I think I sometimes underestimate so they don’t think I’m a liar, but then I’m thinking….why not go the opposite way? Why not say ‘oh around 50’ every single time and get a £5 off my bill?

Has anyone EVER had the amount they’ve said contested?

No, but I am a bit weird and I count them. I only get round to handing them back every couple of months so it's a useful amount off the bill.

Fuck me, do you? Mine are stuffed in a cupboard all together - you genuinely spend time counting through each bag you store? Must have more time on your hands/ less interesting things to do than me!

Me too. And I usually say about 40. But a couple of times when I’ve said ‘about 20’ a driver has said, ‘let’s call it 40’ or whatever.

I just shrug and say 'no idea!'
They always say 'no worries, let's call it x shall we'

x is always more so I'm no worse off!

I find the driver's always round up. "I'd say about ten?" "Let's make it 70, love"

I usually count but I think the drivers do too as they sometimes give me a different amount if I’ve estimated. The real question is how do you have so many at a time? I don’t think I’ve ever had more than 10!

I shove them inside my shopping trolley after I've put everything away and when I realise I can hardly get any more in I spend a couple of minutes counting them ready for the next delivery. It's generally when I'm listening to the radio or watching Pointless with my afternoon cup of tea. I realise of course that as OP has helpfully pointed out this means I am boring and leading a dull life, but so be it.

I generally receive my weekly shopping in six bags.

By the time one has been used for general rubbish or some other purpose I usually hand back each week around five bags and just say 5,6,4 or whatever the number is and the drivers always add a few more on their App update. I doubt if any bother, or are expected to, actually count how many bags you return.

Ocado drivers are very special people and add to the sum of human kindness! 🌞

I usually just say I don't know. They say "shall we call it 10" or some other reasonable number. And i say OK.

I always say "around 10"
Some weeks its more and some weeks its less so I figure its about right

Sorry, forgot to add in answer to your question - no I've never had the number contested by the driver other than to increase it!

I bag mine up in 10s and hand them back every few weeks. It only takes a couple of minutes if you do it regularly.

They always overestimate if you aren't sure. I've talked the delivery driver down in number before

I wouldn't be filling a cupboard with dozens of plastic bags I didn't want. That's not what I'd have in mind for someone who thought they were 'more interesting' than someone who spends a few seconds count bags back for recycling.

I only have Ocado once in a blue moon so I give the bags straight back to the driver, or I might give them to DM who uses them a couple of times a month.

But if I used them regularly I'd give them back the following week. Why wouldn't you if you didn't want them for bin bags of whatever.

When I unpack the shopping i count them all into a one bag then sharpie the number on it.

I count them as I wait for them to unload the van on the driveway. Usually between 5 to 20 bags each time. It doesn't take long unless you have bags stuffed inside bags.

I used to do this too. Then my sharpie that I kept in the bag drawer for this purpose disappeared, so I just count when the delivery comes. Sad times.

This is me too. I count my bags while I am watching the van outside.

BTW: it is worth checking how many bags they say they have delivered because they very often deliver fewer.

They used to round up the bags but they don’t seem to do it so much now.

Oh I always go ‘uh about 15?’ And wonder why they ask - wonder if I’ve been getting money off, or if I need to try saving up 50 to get some money off once in a while 😁

Yeah, it’s the highlight of my empty week.

Or, you know, you get the bags from last week out of the cupboard, master counting to ten or so (fill my endless free time with basic mathematics training dontcha know) and hand them over.
