Do you believe in manifestation?

So I actually began to study the science behind it rather than “I’m going to magically wish to be a millionaire by the time I wake up tomorrow)

And honestly small things have happened that I can’t say is just a coincidence.

I hadn’t spoke to a friend in maybe 3 months, in fact she was more of an acquaintance and I had a thought about her and that I probably would hear from her again but it would nice if I did. Just hours later she messaged me.

The other day I was stressed over a jacket I wanted to sell that had been on my Vinted for ages (removed, uploaded 4 times). It’s been up this time for weeks with only a couple of likes, I thought I’m going to sell this. The next day it’s sold.

I had a clear image in my head of someone knocking on my door and giving me a package despite me not having ordered anything, A week later I heard knocking (assumed it was my neighbours door, it was early and I was in bed still). Walked out hours later to a huge box left on my doorstep. My mum had used my Amazon Prime and forgot to charge the address)

So yes I am starting to believe after much in-depth research and listening to lectures, that there is science to your subconscious creating the reality that you see.

I think you should believe what you believe and leave it at that. There’ll be plenty of people who’ll just scoff at what you say and I think that’s more damaging to your beliefs than hearing arguments for or against manifesting.

In science, "nonduality" suggests that concepts often seen as separate, like observer and observed, or mind and matter, are actually different aspects of a single, fundamental reality rather than distinct entities. While rooted in spiritual traditions, the concept is explored in contemporary science through fields like quantum physics, neuroscience, and consciousness studies, which investigate how seemingly separate phenomena can arise from a unified underlying essence

I’m not sure I understand.

What the OP is talking about eg thinking about a friend and they coincidentally contact her is a normal coincidence.

There is a load of theory about Growth Mindset which is the belief that you can improve if you keep trying, rather than a fixed mindset where you are convinced you don’t have the ability to improve or learn of whatever. I could buy into that but not what the OP is talking about.

Maybe try manifesting a bit more energy then, otherwise you just aren’t putting enough effort in 😁

Yes I think there is something in being positive and positive thinking .I meditated and focused on passing my driving test and I did it .

But loads of people, many many people, pass their driving tests and don't meditate. Me, for one. And I passed in a week, first time.

I also got a first class law degree (not in a week, to be fair) - I manifested that by working really hard, learning the material, practising exam questions......etc.

Mumbo jumbo is how you described manifesting.

You literally had a subconscious thought and envisioned it and then it happened. Thats manifestation. We do it all day long.

I think you've confused me with another poster. I'm not the OP.

DelilahBucket · 12/09/2025 07:17

Bumblebee72 · 11/09/2025 23:32

But that's just thinking about doing something and then doing it. We all do that multiple times a day. In that case I'm amazing at manifesting, I just 2 minutes ago manifested myself a glass of water and I'm about to manifest cleaning my teeth and going to bed. Tomorrow I will manfest loads of stuff.

No, I mean the big things you want in life, not cleaning your bloody teeth 🙄. Say you want a better job. You have to take actions in your life to achieve that. It isn't going to be handed to you on a platter. You can't think about it and it will happen. You put yourself in the right places and take positive steps in order to achieve that goal. Manifesting is mindset, it's nothing to do with subconscious thought and things magically appearing in front of you.

I was explaining my understanding of manifesting, and it isn't what the OP thinks it is.

NewGirlInTown · 12/09/2025 07:21

It’s tripe.

moondune · 12/09/2025 07:29

It absolutely works but it’s a brave person who says that in public.

Our whole lives are unconsciously shaped by our thoughts, but it’s taken me a very long time to realise that.

If you have been raised in poverty and it’s all you know it’s almost impossible to imagine life a different way, so you just get more of the same, but it’s really important that you do.

Just 2 minutes a day of imaging your life as you’d like it to be is enough, over time, to change your life for the better. Be sensible: don’t imagine living in a footballers’ wives’ house if you current live in a tiny flat in a poor area.

Think where you’d like to be in 5 years’ time. See the colours brightly, smell the smells, hear the sounds. Feel excited (that’s important).

It’s only 2 minutes a day. Even if you’re the biggest cynic on earth it’s worth a try is it not?!

This is why it’s so important not to be negative and moany. Your world will reflect your negative thoughts. Break that cycle.

recreatingthephoto · 12/09/2025 07:31

“So I actually began to study the science behind it”

can I ask where you studied the science? Was this at a university? Do you have a qualification now?
can you quote any research papers from reputable sources? Are the studies clinical trials, reliable, valid, double blinded and non biased? Who funded the research?
I would love to see what the sources are.

ps as much as I love Mumsnet, that doesn’t count. Neither does YouTube, Reddit, Wikipedia and Facebook

Bumblebee72 · 12/09/2025 08:38

@Canwegobacktobegin You are never going to believe this. I manifested a pigeon being in my liviing room really hard will all my heart, and then this morning look here it is!!!

Now I feel really stupid on two counts. One I was way to sceptical yesterday, and two, why did I pick a fucking pigeon??? I hate pigeons. I should have picked a Ferrari!

Tomorrow I'm going to manifest turning water into wine like Jesus did. Then I can sell it as the only zero calorie wine (since the only ingredient is water).

It's like a superpower. Don't tell too many people about it.

Now I've got to figure out what to do with a slightly oversized pigeon. Does anyone know if they lay eggs I could sell?

Do you believe in manifestation?
Imlyingandthatsthetruth · 12/09/2025 08:41

I stopped at "I began to study the science..."

ShesTheAlbatross · 12/09/2025 08:51

No, not at all.

I think it’s a mix of confirmation bias, and a bit of self fulfilling prophecy. If you really really believe in manifestation, and you are aiming to manifest yourself a new job, your strong belief that it will work will probably push you to apply for jobs that maybe you wouldn’t have before, you might be more confident in interviews etc because you’re thinking “this job is meant to be for me”.

MuffinCoffee · 12/09/2025 09:20

Yes, I may not be good at explaining how but belief aligns your mind, energy and actions to the opportunities around you. It nudges you towards your goals and opens your mind to possibilities.

You’ve got too much time on your hands. Desperately putting in this much effort to try and be funny and get a laugh from strangers on Mumsnet is just embarrassing.

No more embarrassing than your misunderstanding of several subjects that are currently beyond explanation by science.

Coincidences happen more often than we think. Correlation is not confirmation. There is NO science behind it.

It is not a ton of effort to write a post. You asked for our opinions on whether we believe in manifestation. You can't get too offended when people tell you no. This is just lighthearted chat.

Sounds most like coincidence

Absolutely no one has to hold the same beliefs as I do. It’s not about being offended. I’m not in the least bit offended.

My opinion is that’s it’s inherently cringe to carry on a joke the next day, writing paragraphs taking it even further and looking up photos on google. All because you desperately want kudos from strangers.

I have certainly experienced periods of my life where I feel like there’s a positive energy flowing through me and I feel like everything just falls into place around me and the seemingly impossible just appears. It’s so easy to lose that flow though and get dragged down by the hardships of life, and at those times it feels like there’s nothing but never ending barriers in my way. Maybe “like attracts like” and if you’re buzzing with a positive energy you attract good things - and not just in an obvious way (like being positive at work gets you a promotion), but in less concrete ways (like the house I’d always dreamed of owning coming on the market on the exact day my own house sold, or waking at 2am and driving to see my mum in lockdown for no conscious reason, only to find out that she’d caught an infection that she died from that morning, and being infertile with multiple failed IVF attempts but a newspaper got stuck on my windscreen with an article about a fertility clinic abroad that went on to help me have 3 children… I could go on).
