Having overexerted myself filling the washer this morning I was hanging the clothes on the drying rack when I noticed they were still unwashed. This has happened to me several times when I don't give the door a good shove. Almost brand new Beko, I highly do not recommend. Bought in haste, my error. Apart from the temperamental door it doesn't have a 90 program which is my favourite one! I do like my white pillowcases. Also, it shimmies around the kitchen and ejects its drawer, leaving a puddle on the floor. We now have a felt tip line drawn on the floor to check it's not gone walkabout.

FurForksSake · 18/10/2025 15:32

@TeaAndStrumpets that sounds an utter nightmare!

It's the worst washer ever! Will get a new one once we move.

Swanhilde · 18/10/2025 15:51

@TeaAndStrumpets I always think I could manage without any of my kitchen appliances except for the washing machine. Ours can be temperamental with the spin, soggy clothes everywhere. I feel your pain.

I am much better since lunchtime. Managed to put together another apple crumble for lunch tomorrow - DH doing the chopping. Family coming over so will be a full on day. DH is cooking and mum bringing more pudding - will not be following my no sugar rule 😋

Back in bed watching the football 🔴⚪ Takeaway for tea.

EducatingArti · 18/10/2025 16:59

Back from swimming and showered and in PJ's and knock off Oodie and in bed for now. Will have a rest before heating up the tea and rinsing out my wetsuit. Then I think it is unlikely I'll do much else today!

TeaAndStrumpets · 18/10/2025 17:13

@EducatingArti that is amazing! You deserve a cosy evening after that.

FurForksSake · 18/10/2025 17:15

Well done @EducatingArti did it lift your mood?

I’ve helped ds1 with his art homework. He g
has a booklet he’s supposed to complete over the seven weeks of the half term, invariably it is done just before it is due.

MewithME · 18/10/2025 17:18

I definitely peaked this morning. The sheets are changed and bins done and laundry..one load drying and the ne load on timer for tomorrow. The clean basket of clothes from last week is out away. Been to shop for wrapping paper.....DS friend's birthday...aaaaaaand I'm in pain and shattered now. In bed again.

Going to watch an episode of The Witcher before tea. It's going to be UPF for tea 🙈

Spent a few minutes admiring latest photos of baby grand daughter. I can't believe she will be in nursery soon. She seems so tiny. (Just 9 months) She is used to travelling and meeting people though so will hopefully enjoy it.
Changed two whole pillowcases, but gave up on the rest, DH will have to do it!

TeaAndStrumpets · 18/10/2025 17:26

@MewithME you'll burn out at this rate. I keep telling DH Charlie Bigham's doesn't have UPF in!

MewithME · 18/10/2025 17:34

I will do nothing tomorrow...or as little as I can @TeaAndStrumpets . Thank you.

Time goes fast with babies doesn't it. Blink and they change so much. My ds was in nursery one morning a week at 6 months. Broke my heart but he was ok. Was probably good for him to socialise as an only.

It does help me feel calmer and more zen if I time it right. If I stay in too long and get too cold it isn't so good though!
Obviously the exercise is helpful for sleep too.

I really felt this! My son is diagnosed with PTSD from medical trauma and I spend a lot of time managing his mental health as a support person/carer, also has ASD and it really affects us as parents too.

Im sorry your son struggles too. It's so hard isn't it. Add to the fact that mental health services are often non existent, it makes a already difficult position feel inpossible.

On the plus side, it's been a better couple of days.

TeaAndStrumpets · 18/10/2025 17:56

Yes I think only children really benefit from nursery. She is very likely to be an only with her parents in their 40s, so nursery will be great. Both Mum and Dad have dropped to a 4 day week for a year, so she will only be there 3 days a week.

I don't know how couples manage these days- mortgages, food. It's hard.

ChampagneRose · 18/10/2025 18:02

@MewithMEi did sausage rolls for tea if that’s any consolation :)

had my hair cut today which was lovely but I started to feel really tired at the end as the salon is bright and loud - had a lovely afternoon nap today though. Was weirdly quiet and the dog had a nap too which helped!

ASD is so tricky even if you get help. My grandson has had tutors and counsellors but has decided he will NOT go back to school, ever. Once he's got an idea fixed in his head, that's it.

Tiredandwired2 · 18/10/2025 18:18

@TeaAndStrumpetsIt absolutely is. That's a hard situation with your grandson. My son has ASD and I spent years trying to get him in. He even escaped once without the school knowing! He is 16 now and loves college so we are in a much better place now. If you told me he would be the young man he is now when he was 10 I wouldn't have believed it.

I am home educating my daughter because she couldn't manage school. It was only a year and a half ago we were battling daily anxiety attacks because she couldn't get into school.

I wish there was more support.

@Tiredandwired2 that is a very familiar story! Also 16. He got a place at a hospital school but couldn't be coaxed out of the car, so has had home tutors for basic GCSE subjects. He didn't even want to meet them but the maths tutor did carpentry and outdoor projects at first to gain his trust. Now he is going to do 3 GCSEs and is hoping to go to college next year. A real change of attitude.
It does impact the family, DD1 can't do a regular job so does flexible low paid stuff where she can rearrange her hours at short notice.
That said he is a lovely kind helpful boy and much loved.

How great that they eased him in. It makes such a difference when the school are understanding. I hope things get easier and he settles well. It sounds like he likes hands on work. My sons as a specialist college and they have been fab too.

I understand the difficulty working. Flexibility is key because of the unpredictability. I'm going to have to get looking for work again soon and hoping I can find something flexible for both my kids and my long Covid. I think it's going to be a struggle.

TeaAndStrumpets · 19/10/2025 07:46

Up for the Waitrose delivery. Not much doing today but must tidy up a bit. I've spent so much time on the sofa this week i have surrounded myself with small projects, piles of paperwork, extra hot water bottles etc. So many chargers for things.
DH is off to our storage unit to check the mouse traps (sorry to mention!)
The unit is a continuing thorn in my side but not worth getting into an argument over. It's not expensive and the stuff isn't in my house!

FurForksSake · 19/10/2025 08:41

@TeaAndStrumpets I can very much relate to the sofa piles.

Today ds2 has swimming, I can’t manage to take him so dh takes him. But today he’s got to go to a session for black belt karate people in another town. So he’s taking him and I’ll pick him up. Hopefully that will work.

Then we are going to refill the coconut bird feeders and look at having a go at making a wreath if I can find the glue gun.

Dinner is lamb with juniper.

TeaAndStrumpets · 19/10/2025 08:55

@FurForksSake dinner sounds lovely!

I'm glad not to be a teen taxi service any more, but it's so nice when they have an interest. It was mostly orchestra stuff for us but well worth it.

Spoke to a friend yesterday, covid and flu vaccines put him in bed for a week....so I've got off lightly. We are all ancient though!

TeaAndStrumpets · 19/10/2025 09:15

I feel sad when friends report on their mammoth shopping trips, especially as Christmas approaches. I couldn't get round our local Asda without being shattered for days afterwards.

FishFlaked · 19/10/2025 09:25

Merlin app is so lovely whoever posted about that. Thank you! Sorry with the frequent page reloading I can never find who posted what and also I end up reading all out of order and then giving up. Hope that MN gets that fixed soon. Not helpful for the tired and confuddled.

I’ve taken less to no HRT this week because I forget to reorder meds within the long lead time needed. In this area the deliveries to pharmacies seem to be able to take 1-2 weeks. So I might have a try with the Finch app that someone else mentioned a few pages back for reminders and scheduling. Thank you. Anyway I have really noticed feeling specifically more down and weepy since I have had to be on a HRT half rations and then run out. So it is doing something which is useful to know.

TeaAndStrumpets · 19/10/2025 09:44

@FishFlaked I love confuddled, it says it all really!

Sorry your meds are in short supply. I get that sometimes with one of mine but not a problem yet as I seem to have some spare.

The Merlin app sounds wonderful. I am very poor at recognising birds so it is useful for people like me.
