Good morning everyone 🙂🍂

So today me and dd are at home waiting for the boiler to be repaired. Was a freezing night last night!

I managed to vacuum yesterday so just need to clean the kitchen and vacuum the stairs that i missed. Need to do some reading with dd and some phonics practice.

Currently in bed watching This Morning, but no Alison Hammond, who we love!

Thank you @Peridot1 🥺, how inspiring! Shes non verbal due to her autism but shes picking up words here and there. Currently it's 'french fries' at all hours of the day 😭 - I love the idea of her growing up to do something iconic!

@WinterFrogs thank you, its tough but worth it - glad to hear that a routine is helping. I struggle with it but dd likes it. I think that youre doing your mum proud with the care that youre showing her - i bet the family will love seeing the sentimental stuff that she has kept 💕

My love to all - wishing you a lovely relaxed Friday ❤️

Peridot1 · 24/10/2025 11:58

Morning all.

@mumofoneAloneandwell - hope the boiler gets fixed soon! Love that DD says “French fries” - great priorities!

I am just back from a PT session at the gym. Just having a coffee and planning my day. About to do the dishwasher and kitchen. Noticed as I came in the front door that the sunshine is showing that I didn’t move the cupboard in the hall yesterday and it’s dusty and dirty underneath so I’ll get DH to help me move that and clean behind and underneath. It’s a lovely sunny day here so I think this afternoon will be hopefully finally finishing the painting of the garden room. So over it now!

Also need to decide on a small tree to plant in the garden - if we order it and it’s delivered next week it can get planted while we have some guys here doing some other work.

Happy Friday all.

SpiritOfEdna · 24/10/2025 16:02

@mumofoneAloneandwell I decided to be sensible and not to buy till today because it's payday (hurrah) and then get all hunkered down over the weekend 😄so I got paid in the early hours of the morning so I took the kindle and coffee back to bed on the one day of the week I can do that and started to READ! But what I've read so far is pretty good. Thankfully my phone is dead and I can do some work. I have resisted reading the end, but I wont be able to as I get further in.

@mumofoneAloneandwell @Mumtobabyhavoc huge respect.

Today

  • moved some furniture around so sibling can paint the extension we have at the back of the kitchen. That extension is only 4 years old but one wall has a damp spot, which I guess will need investigating at some point....
  • Bathroom guy came back! So just arranging for a time for them to come and do a quote - exciting the bathroom is so long overdue for a makeover. Praying for more storage 😄AND the window guy came back - so need to do some photographs for him
  • Finally placed click and collect order for tomorrow
  • Started buying birthday presents for the big November birthdays. No wonder I'm always skint come xmas. 1 down, 5 to go.
  • been looking for something to wear for all those birthdays and christmas so whatever I buy will need to do some heavy lifting 😄I am also short so it rules a lot of stuff out as I just get drowned me in fabric.
back to my desk and 1 more hour before am back to my book 😄, have a good rest of the day, SoE

Hello everyone. It's raining and 13c here.
We're all sick now. 😮‍💨🤧
Kids are running around inside and are putting their rain gear on, so I'm not worried. 😂

I've stripped one bed and am washing the sheets and the mattress protector. I vacuumed yesterday and vacuumed one couch. I wiped the kitchen floor today.
cleaned up spills and crumbs from breakfast.

I will have to get the kids out at some point. 😮‍💨
It looks fairly blustery.

🩷 to @mumofoneAloneandwell @autumnangel
and all who need a little extra today. ☺️

WinterFrogs · 25/10/2025 07:16

Lovely to catch up on the posts 💕 I hope you and the children feel better soon @Mumtobabyhavoc

I too am short @SpiritOfEdna so feel you on being drowned in fabric! Exciting times with the bathroom makeover 😁

Congrats on the small sized dress @Peridot1 That must feel wonderful 👏

Thank you @mumofoneAloneandwell 😊 I do my best! Love the french fries. Priorities, bless her!

I am pleased to hear young doggie is on the mend @petalpower And I hope you enjoyed catching up with your friend 🧡

@FourSeasonsLobelia I hope you are doing well 💕 We don't see enough of you round here lately. I know you've got a lot on and no doubt heading towards half term?

That sounds mighty efficient @SingleThreadJoiner2 ! Lovely to hear from you ☕️ 🍰

Hugs to everyone I've missed 🫂 @Aria999 @autumnangel @RunningKatie

WinterFrogs · 25/10/2025 07:26

Re connections @Peridot1 I'm still giggling about my 'one away' a couple of days ago when the answer was _bag ie swag bag.

I went for 'ball bag' DH and I fell about laughing afterwards. We are easily amused 😆

I can't believe it's Saturday again already. And also clock change weekend. When the children were young we had a tradition of going for a walk, gathering conkers etc and coming home for hot chocolate and crumpets on the first winter time Sunday afternoon. Happy days!

I have a busy morning ahead, and then my cherished Saturday afternoon spent reading in bed with the cats. Very grateful for simple pleasures 🙏

I should think of a project because that's why we're here. Though we have evolved, and why not?

I think a wipe of the cupboard that contains tea and coffee counts.

Have a lovely Saturday everyone 😘

FourSeasonsLobelia · 25/10/2025 07:40

Morning all. Hi @WinterFrogs . Still here. Smile

Saturday afternoon reading in bed with cats sounds blissful.

Projects! I have nothing really on agenda. Just lost my mojo. However, yesterday I took our wet laundry to the laundrette and dried it all. We don't have a dryer, and putting it on the rack inside in this weather is making the house feel damp. Our laundrette is only a short walk away but DH dropped me off and thanks to their massive dryers it was all done in 20 minutes for £2 ! I was so excited! (It's the little things). So i am planning on repeating the experience on Mondays and Thursdays for the winter. I just sat and read my book. I have been reading alot about how food affects auto immune diseases and have been putting things in action (basically limiting meat and dairy drastically) and after 2 months the difference has been almost miraculous. So am reading everything about it I can get my hands on!

So a bit of meal planning will be on the agenda too.

Today I need to clear furniture from the sitting room as our rug has crept its way across the room and I need to straighten it up. That's a big task and requires DH as well as it is a giant turkish woven rug. Other than that it's normal household stuff.

Hope everyone has a lovely day!

Peridot1 · 25/10/2025 09:03

@WinterFrogs - I think I tried ball bag too! Made sense to me anyway. And I did have a giggle too!

Hi to everyone. Hope you all feel better soon @Mumtobabyhavoc.

Yesterday’s extra task was moving the cupboard in the hallway and cleaning behind and underneath and everything on top and polishing the mirror on the wall. Plus putting everything back in the tea and coffee cupboard.

Today’s plans:

  • dishwasher etc
  • wash towels
  • long walk in the sunshine - it’s lovely here but cold
  • vacuum
  • finishing the painting on the garden room finally

Have a lovely Saturday all.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 25/10/2025 13:13

It's just after 5am here. Was up at 4:30am with Havoc. Fever of 38.9c. Gave Tylenol and Advil. Gave water to drink. Baby is coughing, but no fever.

Washed a load of towels before bed and put them in the dryer.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 25/10/2025 20:27

Lobelia, meant to ask: How do you manage without a clothes dryer? they are standard here in pretty much every home. I hang most of our clothes to dry, but I'm an outlier, I think. I use the dryer for towels and sheets. I also don't use fabric softener/dryer sheets, but again, I think most people do.

WinterFrogs · 26/10/2025 07:28

Morning! Cats don't understand clock changes so I was pestered for breakfast at the usual time. No lie in for me!

I loved reading about the laundrette adventure @FourSeasonsLobelia We used to have one around the corner, but it closed some years ago now. I remember taking a book and having a relax at one point when my washing machine broke. I had teenagers at the time and relished the peace! I remember that not getting the washing machine fixed was a real, but short-lived temptation....

I'm an outlier with you @Mumtobabyhavoc. I can't bear the smell or texture of clothes washed with fabric conditioner. I like line drying outside but in the winter I use the tumble dryer for anything I can get away with. Am a big fan of fresh air when possible.

I hope you all got a good night's sleep @Mumtobabyhavoc and the havocs are on the mend very soon!

I need to get a witnessed signature from my mother today which is proving easier said than done. The staff aren't allowed to do it, but I'm hopeful that one of her friends will do it as I can't pin any of mine down for this weekend and it's quite urgent for tomorrow.

But first I'm on rota for doing horses this morning ( it's a non riding rescue place) and I'm really looking forward to fresh air and pony kisses 💕 🦄

Happy Sunday everyone!

FourSeasonsLobelia · 26/10/2025 07:39

pony kisses! ❤

@Mumtobabyhavoc I wish we had a dryer! I think it's pretty normal here in the UK too so we are also outliers. We have a small kitchen and no utility room so only space for a washer or a dryer. We did have a combined one for a while but it never worked properly so just got used to doing without!

We have a ceiling pulley rack in our 'conservatory' . But I don't really like using it as it is heavy and awkward. I use it for bedsheets and bed linen mainly. DH uses it for his stuff exclusively. I bought a heated airer and have that set up in our smallest spare room and usually use that. But it takes time. (And costs about 6 pence an hour apparently so I am thinking the laundrette dryer is actually cheaper all things taken into consideration!). I enjoyed my sojourn. The laundrette was nice and warm (of course!) and it was peaceful as @WinterFrogs said.

Hope the Havocs are all better soon and you had a peaceful day with some rest.

Hope you get things sorted with your mum's signature @WinterFrogs !

best wishes to all!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 26/10/2025 08:06

It's just past 12:30am, pouring rain and about 8c here. Baby was wide awake 👀 until about an hour ago, is still snotty and coughing, but otherwise energetic and ate a snack before finally deciding to go to sleep. 🥱Havoc had a fever of 39.8c at 7:30pm, so I gave Tylenol and Advil. I've been checking hourly and at 11:30pm it was normal finally at 36.8c. I'm just going to attempt to watch a play I pvr'd a few months ago that I haven't yet been able to watch straight through because of dc and want to check on Havoc again anyway because if fever returns I'll be able to give meds again ay 1:30am.

I did book Covid + flu shots for all of us today in 2 weeks time. So far it's still offered and covered by our provincial healthcare. You get a text alert when you're eligible to book your appt. My only task today was to vacuum. I took dc out for a drive and about 40 mins at the playground to get them moving a bit and fresh air. I stoped at a pie shop and bought two slices, an enormous loaf of bread and a ginger molasses cookie.
Guess who ended up eating a slice of pecan pie and a slice of raspberry rhubarb? It had to be done... That's all I'll say about that. 🤫🤭

I also meant to comment on the post about having a 500 year old house. Five hundred years? 😳
I've forgotten who that was now. Details please!!! 🙂 It must have some very quirky characteristics?

Oh, the reason I stopped using fabric softener/dryer sheets (and scented detergent, too) was because I am prone to eczema and psoriasis and scents in those aggravate my allergies as well. I've since learned it's actually damaging to clothes and horrible for the environment. 🤷‍♀️

I've been rambling on and it's now past 1:00am... I think I'll just check on Havoc now and go to bed. 🥱

WinterFrogs · 26/10/2025 13:38

@FourSeasonsLobelia there is nothing like hamging out with ponies on a beautiful autumn morning. I was very tempted to take a Very Outing picture for you all. Forecast is for rain in the next couple of hours but this morning the sky was clear blue, grass is still bright green and the trees all going golden. Absolutely lovely. Came home for a fry up for brunch, and mother just messaged me to say her papers have been signed. So I just have to pick them up.

We have our washing machine and tumble drying an old brick shed in the garden.

You really have your hands full @Mumtobabyhavoc!

petalpower · 26/10/2025 16:56

@Mumtobabyhavoc it’s me that lives in the 500 year old house! Houses of that age are not uncommon in this part of the UK. The oldest part of the house is from the 1400s and other bits of the house were added on up to the 1700s. We have put on two extensions since moving here 16years ago. It’s a timber framed farmhouse so wooden beams are exposed on the inside of the walls and ceilings. A lot of the floors are quite wonky and the house moves according to the weather and seasons so we sometimes can’t close doors. It’s beautiful and I really love it!
The weekend seems to have whizzed by - friends for dinner last night so lots of cooking and clearing up - now sitting in front of the wood burner waiting for for the pork to roast. It smells delicious and is making me very hungry. It was beautiful weather this morning but is now rainy and getting dark already. No real projecteering this weekend but I have written three birthday cards that need posting tomorrow and done a massive basket of ironing.

petalpower · 26/10/2025 16:58

Forgot to say I haven’t got a tumble dryer either. I line dry as much as possible and then have a heated airer in the utility room.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 26/10/2025 17:22

Just a quick hi from me to you all 👋👋

Got dinner on and a cozy night in front of Nobody Wants This on Netflix (and Peppa Pig for dd on the tablet)

❤️❤️❤️

WinterFrogs · 26/10/2025 17:24

Your house sounds absolutely gorgeous @petalpower 😍
I house sat one of a similar age with my boyfriend of the time years ago (it's possibly even older actually) and I remember being terrified that it might be haunted and never going upstairs on my own.

Hello! I am behaving similarly. Sitting up in my bed after having a bath, and finally finished the novel I have been reading. My excuse is that I'm coming down with a cold and feeling all headachy.
Enjoy your cosy evening 🍂

Mumtobabyhavoc · 26/10/2025 17:29

Petal, it sounds so romantic! Is all the electrical wiring new? What about plumbing?

Here, many homes are torn down at 30-40 years. Whole blocks of single family homes are disappearing along main roads in favour of condos/town houses.

FourSeasonsLobelia · 26/10/2025 17:35

Love your description of your house @petalpower !

Ours is classic Victorian. Built in 1876 (the mark is above the door). I love it madly and have no doubt it is haunted. :) We are the 4th owners of it in all that time. The Builder who built it in 1876 developed the whole street and lived in this one with his wife and children. His son died in WW2 and his daughter lived in it until her death in 1954. Then it was bought by a man who was here until the 70s. He sold it to a large family who then sold it to DH in 1997.

The daughter of the man who built it is buried in the churchyard in a family crypt next to our GP surgery. She died a spinster and when I go to the GP i usually drop by and say hello to her and her parents. There was no-one after her, so when I first found the grave it was very decrepit. Sometimes I will put flowers on it but usually I just drop by and say hello. I feel the house is a living breathing being that we are looking after right now. And yes, i am convinced that it is haunted. Many people (myself included) have felt the presence of an elderly man here. I like that though and feel content and happy. DS1 in particular used to have chats with the 'man in the room'. Not so much nowadays.

I'm Australian originally and so very old houses is still a source of delight, wonder and joy for me.

WinterFrogs · 26/10/2025 17:43

It's happening round my way too @Mumtobabyhavoc 😔

I love that, @FourSeasonsLobelia ❤️

My house was built in the 1950s. It's beautifully solid and designed for actual living, with decent sized rooms and garden, unlike the houses being built all around the town. Our next door neighbour has lived in hers since it was built and we have been in ours for almost thirty years. I was pregnant with my youngest when we moved in 💕

petalpower · 26/10/2025 17:53

We haven’t done anything to the wiring since we’ve been here but did change the circuit board and trip switch system a while ago. The plumbing is standard modern plumbing but we’re not on mains sewage and have a septic tank system. Also no mains gas in the village. I’ve never felt uncomfortable here but my nephew says he saw a man on the landing and my daughter thinks there’s a presence. My sister in law used to live in a Tudor house and it felt very odd in places. I’m sure something was going on there!

SingleThreadJoiner2 · 26/10/2025 23:02

I'm loving all this house talk! Our first home (me and H) was a victorian terrace and there was a lovely local historian who regularly gave talks about the history of all the roads and how that area of town came to be developed. It was absolutely brilliant, sadly he died during covid. Our house now is newish (2005/6?) and there is nothing distinguished about it, but it is spacious and has built in wardrobes (!!!) and is a very, very short walk into the centre of town. We have no garden as a trade off, but that is a totally acceptable exchange to me! (I grew up in a big and chaotic city)

SingleThreadJoiner2 · 26/10/2025 23:05

PS 1 @mumofoneAloneandwell I can't wait to get watching Nobody wants this, parents have been here since Thursday so no time yet!

PS 2 my parents would do well on this thread, they've cooked up a storm and filled my freezer, got to the bottom of the laundry pile, helped me straighten my bedroom, culled many outgrown clothes from D's wardrobe (most of which hopefully my cousin can sell on vinted) and helped me organise the Storage Room of Doom. I am so grateful and appreciative!!
