In the bookshop I was working in. She was working at a merchant bank round the corner. It simply didn’t compute to her that working in a bookshop was my job.

When renting a flat in a city quite far from where I went to school, the letting agent was a woman I'd been at school with - we used to sit together in French.

At the Nike shop in New York. We were at school together in London. Bumped into the same guy at the Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam.

I haven't bumped into anyone I went to school with thank god 😂

The Comedy Store in London. It was Jack Dee, he had a Friday night spot very early in his career. I went to school with him. We had a quick chat in the bar.

I started a new job (1980s) and the head girl from the year above mine was working there.
I have also seen classmates and people who attended my school (but were in different years) on TV.

At my Uncles funeral after 40 odd years. Neither of us had any idea of this connection. Slightly discombobulating but we did connect with our mutual dislike of our school days.

Reminds me of the Prime Minister (Attlee? Gladstone? Baldwin?) who met a school friend on a train, and they asked "So what do you do now?"
