How much is your water bill?

Confessionsofashopoholic · 29/08/2025 21:09

I’m with Wessex Water and our bill is just shy of £120 last month, we are a family of 3, I know water rates went up in April but this seems crazy high?

Are we using too much? Any tips to cut back?

We paid £350 for a family of 5, including 3 preteen & teenage boys - for 6 months! With Essex & Suffolk Water. So your bill does seem excessive to me & I would question it.

changedmyname24 · 29/08/2025 21:18

Unless of course it is also for 6 months & I misunderstood! In which case my bill feels high 😳

PinkiOcelot · 29/08/2025 21:20

I pay between £32 - £35 per month. Family of 3.

dodobedo · 29/08/2025 21:22

Water is roughly speaking about £150 per person per year

rainbowsandraspberrygin · 29/08/2025 21:25

We were shocked by ours when it came in at over £1k for a family of 4 who are fairly careful (per year).

Confessionsofashopoholic · 29/08/2025 21:26

it was £120 just for a month but it’s usually around the £90 mark but the water rates went increased for all customers. I wonder if I can ask them to come out??

25 per month Thames Water welfare tariff

tripleginandtonic · 29/08/2025 21:27

Mine was £133 a quarter.

ReignOfError · 29/08/2025 21:28

£26 a month. Two of us, Anglian Water, on a meter.

If you are, take a reading, don’t use any water for a set period, and see if the meter reading has increased. If so, you have a leak.

If you can’t access your meter or aren’t one on, get the water company out to check.

Tacocatgoatcheesepizza · 29/08/2025 21:29

Ours has just jumped from £60 a month to £78. Family of 4 with Severn Trent.

Which 6 months? How many of those were post price increase?

Ours is about £70 per month, 4 in the house.

Blarn · 29/08/2025 21:33

£90-something quid, thanks Severn Trent. We are on rates as there are four of us in a two bed so I'm not sure if a meter will save us money.

MiddleAgedDread · 29/08/2025 21:36

£54 a month for 1 person based on discounted rateable council tax value (somewhat over valued IMO as are most newer builds on this area), in Scotland where they don’t believe in water meters cos apparently we have so much water
when I lived in England and had a water meter fitted my bills dropped to a third of what I’d been paying based on council tax band

Madcats · 29/08/2025 21:37

Here, in Bath, we are Wessex Water (but the DD also mentions Bristol Water). and don’t have a meter. We are paying £98.45/month for 10 months of thevyear in a band F house.

I was toying with switching to a meter when DD heads off to Uni, but maybe I’ll check what my neighbours are being billed.

This was the latest bill so I think it was for January-July 2025

LilacRos · 29/08/2025 21:40

Anglian water £1200 year, not on meter. I can compare with metered cost because we have a meter but have lived here a long time and never opted to use it. The cost is the same. Two adults.

Same

Theunamedcat · 29/08/2025 21:40

Almost £70 a month seven trent but its not metered I'm curious if a meter will save me money

ShanghaiDiva · 29/08/2025 21:42

South west water increased their tariffs by 30% this year- absolutely outrageous give the issues in Brixham and Exmouth.

lifeonthelane · 29/08/2025 21:45

Just over £700 per year - unmetered (large) 3 bed semi, family of 4. It feels expensive, and my MIL (in the next village) suggested we should go on a meter as they recently did so and saved money. BUT kids use a lot in the summer, dog needs a hose down every day in winter (live rurally so lots of mud!) and husband likes long showers. We aren't wasteful, but I don't want to get twitchy about watching the amount we use!

Thebrink · 29/08/2025 21:45

Mine has just gone up fron £19 to £22 per month. I live alone.

TheDandyLion · 29/08/2025 21:49

£65 per month. Dwr Cymru.

Mikart · 29/08/2025 21:50

£35 a month Yorkshire water. 2 adults on a meter

Crazy amount: mine is around £54 for a 3-bed house in London per month and that is after the Thames Water massive price hike. £120 is taking the piss unless you have a swimming pool, irrigation system, hot tub regularly refilled or similar. Or you have someone who takes 20 minute showers every day or you do multiple loads of washing every day etc.

Thisismyalterego · 29/08/2025 21:56

We've just had our latest water bill. £200 for six months. Last bill was £170 for six months. We are on a meter and our usage for each six month period is very similar (within 5 litres), so the extra cost on this bill is clearly due to the increased prii, not increased usage.
