Pull up a chair for some friendly chit chat about politics and beyond

Taxes optional but greatly appreciated.

I’m intrigued by contraceptives added to food for Greys, but not sure how effective it is. So sadly, trapping and humane dispatching seems to be the best way. Or a Pine Marten.

https://newsthump.com/2025/08/29/copies-of-the-nottingham-post-begin-appearing-on-lamp-posts/

Copies of the Nottingham Post have begun to appear on lamp posts across the UK after the Reform UK leader of Nottinghamshire County Council banned the newspaper from speaking to him or any of his councillors.

I feel sorry for the greys in a way. They are just doing what comes naturally. I couldn't kill one. Maybe we should be deporting them back to the US.

itsgettingweird · 30/08/2025 09:21

We have loads of grey squirrels in our playground.

They ignore the pupils and they ignore them!

They are either brave (or stupid) to come out at lunchtime though! (Special school and the kids have trikes to ride!)

Evenstar · 30/08/2025 09:25

We have greys in our garden, we have a bridleway and trees behind and they run up and down the top of the fence and taunt the cats and dogs and then jump into a tree. In another house I lived in we had one that used to sit on our kitchen window sill and look in.

Yes, definitely agree. Humans imported them, they are only trying to survive, like any animal. That’s why I’d rather they just quietly die out unable to reproduce, in a best case scenario.

MyNameIsX · 30/08/2025 09:53

They are incredibly adaptable but they are pests.

We live in a very sylvan area and I have trapped and humanely despatched hundreds over the years.

Never seen any other colour unfortunately.

bombastix · 30/08/2025 10:04

I have two grey squirrels in my garden who are a pair. They are entertaining to watch as they chase each other around. The grey male squirrel is just starting to do all the “check me and check my tail” courting rituals.

I live in a very tall house surrounded by trees, which means you get a television style view of it all. So even if these tiny grey bastards eat my crocus bulbs, I do not have the heart to do anything. Occasionally the cat will dispatch one.

PandoraSocks · 30/08/2025 10:05

There are many types of pests, some entertaining, some not so much.

I see Trumps tariffs have been deemed unlawful.

And some are more adaptable than others 😁

It’s Saturday! The sun is shining. My nephews are coming today to my house to cook coq au vin and because it is getting close to autumnal cooking season (the best cooking season imo) then we will have an apple crumble.

I am in charge of the wine. I will be having a happy morning picking out things everyone will like. Purposeful but fundamentally pointless

So true
we have a slide/swings/rope ladder contraption in the garden for dgd’s the squirrels use it as a personal outdoor gym spend hours on it which is quite entertaining but the little feckers also seem to delight in digging up my plant pots & flinging the plants all round the garden.

BIWI · 30/08/2025 10:17

It’s my birthday today. I am officially an OAP!

We have a grey squirrel that lives somewhere in our garden or in our neighbours’ gardens. It infuriates DH because it keeps digging holes in our lawn.

DuncinToffee · 30/08/2025 10:18

Happy Birthday @BIWI CakeFlowers

This is doubly excellent and close to my heart. Gardening is good for the soul and good for others. More power to you.

I thought the Nottingham Newsthump story was a spoof ? It seemed too good to be true ...

Was it?

Oh well, it was a nice idea, bit like the # ishedeadyet
