We've had a glorious summer...but is anyone else looking forward to Autumn?

Just that really. I'm grateful for the lovely summer we've had but I am really looking forward to opaque tights and boots, soups and casseroles, cooler days, candles, fairy lights and Autumn leaves.

Yes!

I feel so much happier already as a person 😄

Parksinyork · 25/08/2025 19:13

The first few weeks of September as there is lots of good things but then it’s cold, dark, wet and miserable.

AliceMaforethought · 25/08/2025 19:13

I am bamboozled by a lot of the complainers on this thread, who seem to be complaining about winter conditions. Autumn doesn't tend to be excessively cold and muddy.

Dontcallmescarface · 25/08/2025 19:14

No, give me a long hot summer anytime. I can't bear the endless dark nights, the wind, rain and mud. The worst thing about autumn is the knowledge that winter is not far behind and there is nothing good about that.

devildeepbluesea · 25/08/2025 19:15

Nooooooooooooooooo

It should be summer every day.

God I hate autumn : “Oh but all the lovely colours!!”

You can fuck off with your yellows and oranges and I raise you mist, drizzle, storms and misery.

Thejugglestruggle · 25/08/2025 19:18

We've had the best spring/summer that I can't remember! Looking forward to the turning of the seasons now though. SCD, leaves falling, colours changing, bite in the air, candles burning...lovely

Sonolanona · 25/08/2025 19:22

No. I don't mind the first couple of weeks of September but after that... dark evenings, dark mornings, rain.
I've loved every second of this summer. I don't want to wear 'snuggly' knit wear.. ( and do not like hot chocolate ) I want to be in shorts T shirt and crocs all year round😁I've not needed heating, or a tumble dryer for months and months, the dog is not mud covered, my allotment has been incredible ... I love summer!

PistachioTiramisu · 25/08/2025 19:24

No - I absolutely hate autumn and winter - not for the weather -I can put up with rain - but it is the horrible darkness morning and evening. It makes me feel awful.

I am , it's my favourite season .
My ideal is a warm early Autumn day ,mellow golden light going into a crisper evening with a huge full moon and plenty of stars.
I don't buy 'Autumn tat' but i do love cushions and throws ,plenty of fairy lights and candles.
I could live in permanent Autumn.

Exactly this. I love sunny frosty mornings and crunchy leaves, and new boots.

BuddhaAtSea · 25/08/2025 19:27

I think my body needs the autumn now, I have spent this entire glorious summer outside. Been to the allotment, the beach, sat outside with a book, ran, swam, cycled…every day I had off, before and after work too. I’m exhausted 😂 but very happy.
If it’s dark, I can’t go to the allotment till 10pm 😂, so I’ll be indoors, resting a bit. I’ll also cook a bit more, at the moment I live on salads. I loved living in linen, but the other night I needed a jumper, and it felt nice.
I still booked a week in the Canaries in November though, because last year the weather was absolutely shite and I struggled.

walkingismedicine · 25/08/2025 19:31

Yep! Saying that just today. We’ve had a great summer but bring on Autumn 😄

SpottyAardvark · 25/08/2025 19:31

Absolutely not!

I have loved spring & summer this year. Finally a long spell of fantastic weather after two years of seemingly relentless cold & downpours. Here in the East Midlands there were serious floods in many places which had never flooded before in living memory.

I would love this amazing weather to go on & on. Realistically, though, I do understand that farmers & growers are having a nightmare & desperately need some rain.

Delatron · 25/08/2025 19:34

It’s not the cold I have an issue with - I like skiing for example. It’s the darkness and we tend to get a lot of rain in this country. I’m sure a crisp, sunny autumn somewhere else would be lovely. Then in to a proper snowy winter… we don’t get that here

toomanydicksonthedancefloor1 · 25/08/2025 19:35

no absolutely not

Yes, I struggle with the endless dark evenings. I do a couple of hobbies that start around 6pm and I really dislike heading out for them when it's already dark.

💯

I love autumn, it's my favourite season. Spiced hot chocolate, jumper dresses, new notebooks, rich colours, stews and pies, walks through crunchy leaves, great drama, and not being too hot at night. What's not to love!?

You lost me at new notebooks?!?
spicy hot chocolate……wrong
crunchy leaves…..hiding dog shit and dead squirrels

Yeah I really hate that. I’m just less likely to go out. And ferrying children around to their sports clubs in the dark is also miserable.

I do love the warm, light evenings.

Buy a new notebook! That will get you through 6 months of dark, cold and rain.

AliceMaforethought · 25/08/2025 19:10

How on earth do you figure that one out? It's the worst of all worlds. Weather is still usually pretty cold and spring seems ages away, but Christmas is long gone. It is such a depressing, 'nothing' month.

It’s my birthday month and I always go on holiday plus it’s a short month and spring is on its way.

RaddledOldSandal · 25/08/2025 19:42

WinterFrogs · 25/08/2025 17:08

I am the same. I do tend to count the days to the end of August, though this one has been ok. Good, even. Though I feel much the same about December.

I sometimes wonder if it's about the expectations around August and December. October is my favourite month by a mile, especially a beautiful, crispy golden one! In second place is April.

And also my most flattering clothes are the ones that cover me up, so looking decent is easier when it's cool.

If I ruled the world, we'd have June length days with spring and autumn temperatures.

Ed to say, actually I really like the mornings and evenings drawing in, so perhaps April and October length days 🤔

Edited

Yes October is my favourite month too.

Same. Relentless dark, grey wetness and misery.

Anyway, despite not embracing the autumn, today I have made damson gin and spiced plum vodka. The wonderful spring and summer have given me a glut.

tripleginandtonic · 25/08/2025 19:44

I'm enjoying summer for as long as possible. No point wishing your life away.

mellongoose · 25/08/2025 19:45

I do love Autumn but I’m not quite ready for it yet. This Summer in Cornwall has been glorious and am hoping we can squeeze out some more before the mudfest begins!

MadisonAvenue · 25/08/2025 19:46

Definitely, for a few reasons.

I don’t like warm weather.
I’ve had emergency surgery over the weekend and I’m looking forward to being fully recovered in the Autumn when hopefully we should be moving into a beautiful new build house in a new area which will need lots of exploring!
I have a ticket to an event where I’ll be getting to shake the hand of my absolute favourite ever football player and have a photo with him, and I get to do all of that with my son.

If you are going to look for the negative in everything, you'll find it. I have never once seen a dead squirrel under leaves, and dog mess is year round.
