We've had a glorious summer...but is anyone else looking forward to Autumn?

Just that really. I'm grateful for the lovely summer we've had but I am really looking forward to opaque tights and boots, soups and casseroles, cooler days, candles, fairy lights and Autumn leaves.

Absolutely. This warm dry weather is boring.
my autumn wreath is going up 1st September.

GentleSheep · 25/08/2025 16:59

Yes I'm more than ready to embrace warm jumpers and fleeces again!

InMyOpenOnion · 25/08/2025 17:00

I like the passing into all the seasons really. I love the long relaxed summer days and am always a bit sad at their passing, plus the end of the summer fruits season. I enjoy early autumn and the fresh start of September but am not really a fan of dreary November mornings.

Absolutely!! By mid/end of July I’m always desperate for Autumn. August is my least favourite month of the year. Too hot, everywhere dried up, too busy and too light. I think I might have reverse SAD as I end up feeling a bit anxious and get insomnia. Roll on the cosy months I say. 🍁

I am the same. I do tend to count the days to the end of August, though this one has been ok. Good, even. Though I feel much the same about December.

I sometimes wonder if it's about the expectations around August and December. October is my favourite month by a mile, especially a beautiful, crispy golden one! In second place is April.

And also my most flattering clothes are the ones that cover me up, so looking decent is easier when it's cool.

If I ruled the world, we'd have June length days with spring and autumn temperatures.

Ed to say, actually I really like the mornings and evenings drawing in, so perhaps April and October length days 🤔

Oh look, the moaners have arrived. The cold weather often doesn't start until well into October or even November. February is the worst month. We had an amazing spring this year as well.

February is the best month.

currentlybrunette · 25/08/2025 17:16

I romanticise autumn and there’s a specific autumn day that’s perfect. Bright sun, cool weather (cool enough for a jacket but not a full on coat), crunchy leaves and dry. Autumn is my favourite season and I’m happiest September - December but January - April is always a huge slog.

Delatron · 25/08/2025 17:16

What is good about February? It’s just bloody awful! The only good thing is about half way through Feb it finally is light at 5pm. But we still have March to get through (which is often colder than Jan).

HumerousHumous · 25/08/2025 17:19

I love Autumn and September but don’t look forward to the spiders. Constantly on the lookout for them.

I also play loads of tennis and hate playing under floods which come with darker evenings.

Looking forward to putting on my big lace up chunky boots.

ginasevern · 25/08/2025 17:19

No I'm not. Autumn is pretty and all but it's the prelude to months of cold, wind, rain, snow, frost, dark mornings, dark evenings and scraping the car off. And having to dress like the fucking Michelin Man just to go out the front door. They can shove it up their arse. This summer has been bloody gorgeous and I don't want it to end. If I could leave for warmer climes I would. Rant over.

Aubrielle · 25/08/2025 17:20

Love autumn, (also love winter, despite having Raynauds).
I have summer SAD and asthma so in June, July, August I am ill and miserable.
September is when I start feeling better.
Autumn colour, long walks without worrying about the dog overheating.
Layering up in sweaters, boots, coats, big shawls.
Making warming vegetable soups and stews.
Cosy evenings with my head in a book and everything quiet outside.
Just love it.

CortadoPlease · 25/08/2025 17:20

Nooo. This spring and summer have been fantastic. I’d like some proper rain spread over a few nights so the garden is revived, but bring on more warm sunny days. I do love autumn/winter clothes though.

Love it! Lambing and daffodils 🌼

I was more thinking it’s my birthday but lambs are good too!

ShaunaSadeki · 25/08/2025 17:24

Not really, I could happily have summer permanently. But I do love a particular September sunny day when it is warm enough to sit on the beach and have a swim, then cools down so much that I can enjoy a Sunday roast

user1476613140 · 25/08/2025 17:25

Autumn rocks!

Delatron · 25/08/2025 17:29

I hate daffodils 😂. Tulips I can get mildly excited about as it means spring but daffodils not really…

CreepyCoupe · 25/08/2025 17:32

I love winter clothes, but this summer has been fabulous and I’m not ready for it to end any time soon. I can’t remember a summer when we have socialised and hosted outdoors so much. It’s been a gift.

Whats's good is that its short and pay day comes quicker ,February is gone in a blink then it's March and the clock changes and things start looking up as the worst is usually over and Spring begins.

💯

I love autumn, it's my favourite season. Spiced hot chocolate, jumper dresses, new notebooks, rich colours, stews and pies, walks through crunchy leaves, great drama, and not being too hot at night. What's not to love!?

Dark evenings when you can’t walk in the park.
Dark when you leave the house in the mornings.
Mucky house from football boots and dogs.

I love a candle, fairy lights and movie night but it doesn’t make up for the darkness and the muck !!

smoulderingmould · 25/08/2025 18:34

I like Autumn but find these threads quite odd when people talk of snuggling and coats. In my part of the Uk September is normally mild (hence why so many get married in Sept) & even Oct isn't that cold.

MaryGreenhill · 25/08/2025 18:35

No

smoulderingmould · 25/08/2025 18:36

I feel like people fetishise autumn! 😆

February is the best month.

How on earth do you figure that one out? It's the worst of all worlds. Weather is still usually pretty cold and spring seems ages away, but Christmas is long gone. It is such a depressing, 'nothing' month.

That is winter, not autumn.
