Anyone slim and healthy who eats bread every day?

Conflicting opinions everywhere about this. I know lots of low-carbers who swear off it and have done for years, but many of them are still fighting the weight.
Also know a few who eat some sort of bread almost daily and are fit and slim. Seems to cut both ways?

I like panini at the weekends with mozzarella, tomato, and can't say it makes much difference, but then I don't eat it daily.

Saw a similar thread about pasta a while back so thought I'd ask about bread!
What about healthy, ow processed breads, wholemeal, too?

I eat bread just about every single day and have done for most of my 56 years (well, since being on solids anyway 😁)

Never had any weight problems in my life though.

I eat bread every day - wholemeal sourdough usually. It’s about calories in, calories out. If bread fits into your daily calories, then that’s fine. I run around 40km a week though so need loads of carbs. If someone if not eating carbs but still battling with weight, they’re probably eating too many calories through fat or just not exercising.

I do, 6ft, 10st5. I tend to have 2x wholemeal slices most days, and ALOT of fresh bread - either uncut or a French stick at the weekend.

I'm a size 6 and eat processed bread everyday. I think it's all dependant on the individual. Some people can eat loads and never gain a lb, like me and some will gain just looking at it. If you enjoy it and it's not affecting you In any way then what's the issue? Forgot to say, I'm not healthy in the slightest either. Smoker and major caffeine addict🤭

My husband is super slim. He has 2 pieces of toast for breakfast each day. Sometimes he'll have a sandwich for lunch too. Dinner varies, but will almost always include some carbs: pasta, rice or potatoes. He'll often have a biscuit or 2 after dinner.

I could do with losing a bit of weight. I eat a similar amount of carbs, but I think it's the cake and chocolate that is the problem more than the bread!

I probably eat bread 5 out of 7 days, but I’m one of those people who struggled to keep weight on so watching calories isn’t something I need to do. I do try my best to eat for health reasons most of the time.

Do flatbreads count? If so, I managed this till I was 47. Then peri kicked in.

People’s bodies are different. There was a study, which I can’t be arsed to find, that found that if you gave fat/carbs to thin/fat people an interesting thing happened. Fat to both cohorts, jump in GLP1-type hormones in the body, causing satiety. Carbs to both cohorts, only a jump in the thin people.

Now I think that’s probably causal to obesity, rather than the other way around.

You maybe can eat carbs and feel full, other people can’t. If you can, have bread, if you can’t, you may need to restrict.

I am curious when reading about it how many people say it leaves them hungry or ravenous and they feel an urge to eat the entire loaf.

I wonder if this is something to do with satiety and hormones going askew?
Anything more than two slices would leave me pretty full, so maybe it's just the luck of the draw.

So maybe it isn't the bread exactly, but something that is already broken metabolically?

There was a celeb doctor who looked at blood sugar spikes and how bread is a trigger from some people. I think it was Tim Spector, the man behind the Zoe programme, who studied this. Personally, I believe bread is a staple in our diet and has been for centuries. I would only avoid it if I were coeliac.

I've been slim and healthy and eaten bread every day.

The trick for me IMHO is just having a half slice. I also gave up butter a long time ago, so usually I have eggs with some pumpkin seeds and either a drizzle of EVOO or smashed avo. My cholesterol is better for it. Also have sourdough as gets in better with me.

I also sometimes have the Crosta and Mollica wraps. Bit pricey though.

Well some breads are more filling than others.
DH eats bread every day and has always been thin. I don’t eat bread every day as I’m coeliac and it’s hard to get really good bread. I am fatter than DH but that’s due to thyroid disease and general post meno weight gain, plus too much cake . Bread is fine! If I’ve got some really good gluten free bread then I freeze it and have a couple of slices of toast for breakfast. I don’t get any fatter eating the bread.

But I think it is more common to see people reducing carbs who are overweight or higher BMI.
Forums like MN are full of people trying to lose weight and claim to not eat carbs.
If it was a solution, why are they still dieting? It's all super confusing.

At my slimmest I always ate bread but was very active! If I drink wine I can blow up within 2 weeks.

Well, it has changed my metabolism. Menopause affects different people differently. Plenty of science on that.

Cutting out bread helped me lose 10 kg over a matter of months. I have a waist again and don’t feel lethargic/bloated after meals. I think bread is injected with so much these days that it is overly processed. My body seems better for cutting this out.

I once read that it alters where the fat goes as opposed to causing weight gain.
I would imagine though that it is different for everyone. My sister developed a smaller waist, unreasonably Grin but a few other relatives gained in the belly.

You are right, I think eventually food science will have to rest on it all being highly individual - instead of us all thinking our way is the only way.
