Left the North East this morning and saw a few, lots on the motorway bridges and our local fb page is full of them.

I spent 6 months in the USA and people put the American flag EVERYWHERE. National pride is a good thing

This isn't the same thing though is it. The American people have always celebrated their patriotism and flag. Many people in England are simply doing it now to stir up hatred. They are doing it because they think it's proving a point.
I have no problem with flags in any country but when they are being used as a weapon of hatred then I definitely have an issue with it.

Someone has painted red crosses on the mini roundabouts near me, quite clearly they have zero brain cells as the roundabouts are brown, raised cobble types, so it looks nothing like the flag! Just shows how people jump on the bandwagon without thinking it through!

There was literally one with a red background and a white cross. I don't think it was the local Danish community.

anyolddinosaur · 26/08/2025 08:23

The flags are only "a weapon of hatred" if you claim they are there for that reason.. Some people have flags up to support the womens rugby. When you tell everyone flags are about hatred you fuel racism because you try to dictate what people can and cant do in the name of race. You fuel and magnify difference.

You tell yourself it's about women's rugby if you want but I'll bet that 99.99% have nothing to do with that at all.

anyolddinosaur · 26/08/2025 09:39

@Adultautismdiagnosis you want the flags to be about racism so you say that is why they are there. You want to fuel racism by telling people who put up a flag for the rugby that they are racist and must take it down. You want to tell everyone not just what to do but that they racist for doing something they have every right to do. You want to fuel racism.

TeenLifeMum · 26/08/2025 09:43

They painted a zebra crossing (really badly - such wonky lines) over on the “rough” side of town and I saw a photo of bunting up in the local council estate. Demographic is what you’d predict I guess. I think the bunting lot are trying to be patriotic and aren’t really aware of the original reasons though.

Don't be so utterly ridiculous

Hereforthecommentz · 26/08/2025 09:44

Yes over the motorway bridges and quite a few at the local flats. We've had a million threads on these flags now though. It just starts arguments. Give it a couple of weeks and they will be gone and it will be forgotten about. There will be something else in the press to divide us.

I mean USA is pretty well known for its racism! Not exactly the model country to copy 😆

Are you saying that people on council estates are not the sort that you like.

I didn't for one second say they were a model country. The racism in both countries is despicable.

I’m saying you do tend to find Reform supporters on the old style council estates, but I’m not sure they were being racist just low education levels. And yes, I have friends living in those areas who are degree educated but that’s not the norm.

Piggywaspushed · 26/08/2025 09:51

It's not even true that all Americans fly flags anyway. It's certainly widespread in small town America and in the suburbs and on many public buildings. It's a cultural difference. But visit , for example, Manhattan, and you won't see US flags in abundance.

My sibling and my DSIL had their flags ripped up recently because 'their sort' aren't 'supposed' to fly them so it's not without controversy. This cherry pie version of the USA is not the reality.

PS their NDNs put their flags back up for them, interspersed with other flags.

It's good to know what you think of people on council estates, most council estates are old style.

anyolddinosaur · 26/08/2025 10:23

@Adultautismdiagnosis Not at all. You are insisting the majority of the flags are there for racist reasons because 1. that's what you want to believe and 2. you want them all taken down. You want to control.

That desire to lecture and control fuels racism and that's what you want.

Why are you telling me what I think and believe? It's rather gaslighty isn't it!

Adultautismdiagnosis · 26/08/2025 10:25

And you're saying I'm the one lecturing and controlling 🤣

Be offended all you like but evidence suggest working class are more likely to vote Reform.

Again this is a big stereotype, lots of reform supporters like my mum live in nice cul de sacs. Ex conservative voters. A lot of the social club they attend have said they are voting reform, they are not yobbo types, they are mostly nearing retirement! You don't know people's political views by looking at them. Realistically a lot of the people displaying flags won't bother voting at all. Only 35 percent of the country can be bothered to go out and vote and it's mostly older people.

i checked the latest stats and those are the facts. That’s not to say there isn’t support in the middle classes (age is a factor too and the over 50s are more likely to support reform -that doesn’t mean everyone over 50 supports them) but support from working class people is higher in terms of percentages (according to the Independent newspaper online).

I haven’t noticed any. I am in Wales though.

😂 me too. So God forbid.

@Adultautismdiagnosis Hypocrite much. You claimed to know what everyone was thinking who put up a flag.

Anonymouse22 · 27/08/2025 18:02

Aside from the flags, I can't see how being concerned about illegal immigration is racist?
