F*ck Breast screening call back

Shit. Not a-fucking-gain. Had bc in 2012, full mastectomy, usual slash/poison/burn treatment.
Finally getting my head straight and my health back to normal after 13 years . Had a mammogram last week and got a letter this morning to come back on 2/9 for more tests. The letter is almost identical to the one I got back in 2012.

DH is out with his daughter until later but he can’t do anything anyway. I’ve WhatsApped Mum, but she’s at work until after lunch. Again nothing can be done though.

I’m sitting here spiralling and feeling like my head is going to explode. I can’t say anything to DS(25) as he’s getting his head around managing to get into uni and all that it involves.

I just want to scream into the void.

Yikes, sorry to hear that. I guess they're taking no chances after what you've already been through. Have they actually said it's cancer, or are they cutting whatever it is out and asking questions later?

AlPaccacino · 21/09/2025 21:51

They haven’t told me anything! Just that I have an appointment. So frustrating.

Excruciating! Surely they could've told you something

StarCourt · 22/09/2025 00:32

thinking of you op

Mynewnameis · 22/09/2025 12:57

I was told I'd get a follow-up appointment whatever the results op.

SummerFeverVenice · 21/09/2025 21:12

Oh dear. I’m sorry. Looks like BC is back. Sending you a hug.

It doesn’t necessarily mean that. At my clinic you get an appointment regardless. They don’t tell you things over the phone.

AlPaccacino · 25/09/2025 18:05

I have to go back for a vacuum assisted biopsy. So a bigger needle attached to a Dyson. Basically they can’t identify what the thing is so they’re going to suck it all out. Oh joy! And apparently it’s just a small procedure under local, but might take up to 30 minutes while being squished by the mammogram plates. Again.

Muffsies · 25/09/2025 18:15

Oh god, mega-biopsy! I'm sorry, I guess at least they're not saying it is cancer, and they're not taking any chances and taking that thing out. But, damn, how much does one pair of boobs have to bloody go through??

Fingers crossed for a super-nice technician, a quick procedure and a fast, non-cancer result.

One singular boob. The other one was sacrificed to the evil demon 13 years ago.

Sorry, poor ghost boob 😞 I was including her.

I'm also very sorry that you're going through this again.. 13 years later. You've done so well, I really hope 🤞🙏🤞 that after so long it can't be the same demon.

Got the text from NHS that my mega biopsy is next Thursday. In Corfu atm and trying to forgot the text. I’ll have to change my physio appt as I definitely won’t want to do that later in the day.
Got myself booked in for a 90 minute all over body massage and facial for tomorrow so I can just chillax.

Sending thoughts and positive vibes that all is well. This must be a scary time

UncertainPerson · 17/10/2025 08:24

Same, really crossing everything that it’s all benign 💐. Hope you can enjoy your holiday.

Muffsies · 17/10/2025 11:34

Doing as many stress-free chillax things as possible is the best thing you can do. Hope you had a lovely massage and have some fun things to do for the weekend. I'm going to the pictures to see the new Leo film, One Battle After Another.

AlPaccacino · 17/10/2025 12:26

They refused to do the massage due to past cancer. BAAAAASTARDS! And it’s pissing down today so can’t even sunbathe. I’d use to pool anyway but it’s thundering and I don’t want to risk getting fried by lightning

OP posts:
UncertainPerson · 19/10/2025 08:10

Ah really sorry to hear that about the massage. These little things can feel like a real slap in the face sometimes. I hope you’ve had some nice food and a good book (or something just as cosy).

AlPaccacino · 24/10/2025 13:07

OMG! It was sooo painful. Different team to last time and I was so uncomfortable with 6 people in a tiny room. I had to have it sitting up this time as that’s the way the doctor likes to work and they didn’t use enough local.
I was in there with this needle buzzing sound for an hour with shocks of pain when it hit the bits that hadn’t been anaesthetised enough.

Then the mammographer (?) had to put soooo much pressure on it for 10 minutes and that was actually worse as she was basic AITA leaning on my boob with her body weight. And I have a huge pressure dressing covering most of the boob that I can’t take off for 48 hours and needs to be well soaked in the shower or it can rip the skin apparently.

God they really put me through the mill this time.

An MRI as well? Crikey.
I’m at the stage now, where I’m sick of investigations and wish they just cut the damned thing off. I quite like my flatness on the other side and this huge boob just sits there flapping about uselessly. I have to wear a bra and a foob just to look balanced. At least if it’s gone then I won’t need to worry about mammas and biopsies etc etc.

Just the fear of everything hanging over me like the boob of Damocles.

Can totally understand about the useless flapping breast!!
Spent last year being treated for BC, many different varieties of biopsies (who knew there is more than one!) followed by a lumpectomy then a mastectomy, which I had argued from the start.

now I’m looking forward to investigations on my other one, where they found pre cancerous cells last year.

if they would just listen to me when I said I just wanted them both off I could have been saved all this angst.

I’d love to lose this one, just to be flat and symmetrical.

Ive been told by my BC nurse that our local health authority is not keen on symmetry surgery but that I might have a strong case for it.
hope that’s true cos I just want it gone.

My surgeon seemed so determined to save my breast last year, despite me telling her from the get go that I just wanted it gone.
but she insisted on lumpectomy.
turned out she couldn’t get a wide enough margin so went for the mastectomy.

Post surgery she apologise to me and said my first response was the right one because they found a more aggressive grade hiding behind the original tumour, that would have never been detected had I not had it off.

so I’m praying that she’ll agree with a second mastectomy.

would make such a difference in how I see myself. It’s the imbalance that’s so destroying not necessarily losing a boob

Muffsies · 24/10/2025 14:04

Wow, well done for getting through it 💪 i hope it all turns out ok 🙏 and yoy are getting pampered at home.

That dressing situation sounds weird, you have to keep it soaking wet?

DipsyDee · 24/10/2025 16:34

I’m so sorry you went through so
much pain whilst having this procedure. They should have bloody well made sure they injected you with more local! It’s totally unacceptable.

UncertainPerson · 24/10/2025 18:40

So sorry to hear that horrible experience 😔 I wonder why they didn’t do the local properly? I really hope you get benign results back from the lab asap.

AlPaccacino · 20/11/2025 23:28

So I finally got the results back after 4 weeks and everything is fine. No idea what the abnormalities were. Apparently B3 whatever that is and it’s just my old boob being fibrous. So relieved now.
