Also a pp mentioned people winning speedboats on Bullseye but IIRC those winners always lived in places like landlocked Wolverhampton!

DH and I were saying that just a couple of days ago - Derby was our example 😃

Also reminded me that DH often quotes "I didn't get where I am today by (not)..." whatever it is he's just done (or not).

Eta We were walking past the Anglia building in Norwich which reminded us of: "From Norwich it's the quiz of the week - it's the Sale of the Century!".

Javelin through the neck is my enduring memory of that show 🤢.

I read somewhere that the reason for the speedboat prize was that one of the producers friend's had a business supplying said boat's.

Colleague (Irish, 30s) didnt know who Michael Palin is, nor did he know what Monty Python was.
It aged me.

It's getting silly now.

upinaballoon · 23/08/2025 09:11

Does anyone remember Lady Constance de Coverlet in 'I'm sorry, I'll read that again'. Radio.
Tim Brooke-Taylor, I think, was Lady C.
"Lady Constance, I'm appealing to you."
"Yes, yes, dear boy, you DO appeal to me."

I've got to go. I haven't read all through but thanks for the laughs, folks, and I mean that most sincerely. Sidi Berani (?) used to come up in 'Round the Horne'.
I know you know I know you know.

Someone at work used to say, "I'm doing it now, Sybil."

Have you ever been in a Turkish prison?

Ratafia · 23/08/2025 09:15

BlueEyedBogWitch · 23/08/2025 05:46

I bloody love Round the Horne. I quote it so often it’s become part of my idiolect.

”Many times…many many times…”

”It’s yer actual French.”

”Ooh, he’s bold!”

Now I've got to search for a recording and listen to it all again.

The Turkish prison line ,was that Airplane when little Jimmy was taken to the cockpit to speak to the captain?

Whenever I cut up cauliflower I quote Uncle Monty saying it's more beautiful than the rose. Everyone looking puzzled always makes me wonder, does no one watch Withnail & I anymore? It's a cult classic

Edited

We need Rrrosemary, garlic and salt. That cat's obsessed with it's guts! Flowers are prostitutes for the bees.

We quote Alberto Frog when choosing anything, doesn’t have to be milkshake! And also sing the mice song from Bagpuss when anything needs mending.

You’re a wizard Harry and there’s a storm coming also gets said a lot.

Gladysknightjustwalkinmyshoes · 23/08/2025 10:05

Can't say I hated him, he was just there. Hated Sarah-Jane's slimy husband.

Also hated the slimy man in Howard's Way, the one that Jan worked for and went off with.

I think the actor and actress are married in real life ?

Laughingravy · 23/08/2025 10:20

Bit of a cock up on the catering front - Cousin Jimmy in Reggie Perrin
12 minutes late, badger in a Junction box a Ruislip - Reggie Perrin

Time for bed Zebedee

"Time for bed!" SAID Zebedee.

Otherwise, it sounds as though you're telling Zebedee that it's time for bed.

DP and I sing the mice song when anything needs sorting. With the squeaky voices too obvs.

x2boys · 23/08/2025 11:30

They didn't spend much n children's tv shows in the 70,s did they ?
Some bearded guy and his finger bobs
Bagpuss was just a saggy old cloth cat but Emily loved him and a few ornaments and a picture of Emily
Mr Ben which was about 12 episodes in total which they played endlessly for decades .
Some young couple and their guitar singing I,ve got a handful of songs to bring you.
