Brilliant!

And is your username an oblique reference to David Bowie and Hunky dory?

Yes!

ItsNotUnusualToBe · 22/08/2025 19:18

Right turn Clyde

can anyone help me with this one?

”i’ll get it grandad”
sure it was a public information film about road safety but can’t find it anywhere on you tube.

i say it every time someone forgets something. my kids think i’m bonkers but then i have a song for every occasion too and yet to be beaten!

It was a public information film l think called Pelican Pedestrians or something like that. Grandad and his granddaughter cross the road at a pelican crossing. She tries to go back for her umbrella but he stops her, saying that the flashing green man means the lights are about to change and they mustn't start to cross. I’ve seen the original on YouTube somewhere - l’ll see if l can find a link.

Good moaning

I've been trying to teach that to some small kids. It's kind of hard to explain he's speaking bad English to portray bad French during the German occupation, but it's so hilarious.

Graphinette · 22/08/2025 19:22

Course you can Malcolm!

Taytocrisps · 22/08/2025 19:22

Houston, we have a problem.

Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get.

I’m 47 and don’t know recognise a few of them. Taking that as good evidence that I’m actually young after all!

I'm 48 and I take it to mean I'm not great at pop culture!

The one I've often mentioned on here is people below about 40 not understanding what's funny about someone being called John Thomas. It's probably 45 now to be fair.

CakeFace1234 · 22/08/2025 19:23

"bright lights, bright lights!"

My DS said he liked a Clio, I said "Nicole?!, Papa?"

@Gladysknightjustwalkinmyshoes I was coming to here to say" I'll get it grandad. "
Also Shake and Vac.
Yeah man

What is he doing with those candle sticks.
I fancied the actress in that one I'd probably been between 8 and ten.

When anyone says 'before my time' to me, I ask if they've heard of the Romans, WWII, the dinosaurs etc. I know about books, music and films that were around before I was born - amazing! Some people must live under a rock.

Yeah if you find yourself saying that sentence you almost certainly making a fool of yourself!

They cut them with their steely knives.

They boil them for 20 of their minutes.

Then they smash them all to bits.

Remember Joe and Petunia from the seaside safety public information film ? Petunia being a large blonde lady in swimsuit and sunglasses and Joe being a wimpy type with a knotted hanky on his head ? Petunia was voiced by Wendy Craig but l can’t remember who voiced Joe.

Peter Hawkins.

Yes and it wasn’t up to much

reeel icecream etc

also “Hope it chips” ad in van

I have never liked ice cream, but I do remember my two brothers successfully pestered our parents into buying the “mint choc-chipa” flavour once (it was usually out of our budget) and them both being thoroughly disappointed.

Maybe it only tasted good when being saucily spoon fed by a muscled, swarthy Italian hunk, in the sunshine, in a cosy gelateria situated next to a stunning and historic fountain?! 🤷‍♀️😂

DelilahMy · 22/08/2025 19:32

So what is it? Explain to an oldie, please…

@GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER

Maybe my example (Rickrolling) is in the awkward zone where it's too old for youngsters but too new for old fogeys.
This link will explain it. Innocent looking link (except rotten old MN don't let us do surprise links any more - remember the days of the bat and Terry Wogan?Grin)
