Cakes for me. Homemade cakes taste better.

Lidl bbq Pringles knock off. So much nicer than the proper ones.

And their Jo Malone candle dupes, not as strong but for a few quid, they’re well worth it.

Nsky62 · 22/08/2025 14:11

Used to buy Ecover, bio d, uk brand far better and cheaper!
like my eco stuff

MrsAvocet · 22/08/2025 14:12

Mars bars. Lidl's own are much cheaper and nicer. Mind you, I should probably give them up altogether as I'm far too fat currently.

cramptramp · 22/08/2025 14:15

I no longer buy Heinz soups or Branston baked beans. I now buy both from M&S.

JamPotJenny · 22/08/2025 14:15

Heinz Baked Beans.
Tesco beans are nicer with less sugary aftertaste.

MerylSqueak · 22/08/2025 14:15

Cheapest own brand toilet paper that's decent is Tesco's own brand. It's great. It's something under 16p per roll which is about half others.

StupidRules · 22/08/2025 14:20

Morrisons and Aldi cream of tomato soup tastes identical to Heinz. Other supermarket own brands don't though, only those two.

Aldi ketchup is nicer than Heinz (slightly spicier so not identical, but really nice) but Lidls isn't quite as good.

Aldi's Magnum washing up liquid is better than Fairy Liquid, which has gone downhill massively in recent years.

I agree about the Jo Malone candle dupes, they are fantastic. Not all the Aldi candles are amazing though, you do have to be careful. The JM dupe handsoap pumps are also really good. They smell amazing and are so cheap.

Own brand washing powder instead of persil or Ariel liquid. Way cheaper, no plastic and works just as well

Nespresso capsules, buy mine from urban coffee instead, lovely coffee & compostable pods

We bought the re-usable capsules. They're brilliant, easy to clean, and I feel like I'm doing something good for the environment. Also saving a load of money that would have been paid to Nespresso monthly. Compostable is clever though, and has the same effect.

I've stopped buying cheap/cheaper scented candles and now only buy good quality - Diptyque mainly. They last a longer and give off much more scent. I reckon I spend only fractionally more overall. Everyone who comes into the house always comments on the scent - whether the Diptyque candle is alight or not - it still smells great even when not in use.

PeonyPatch · 22/08/2025 14:53

Heinz baked beans. Buy tescos own brand.
Andrex wet wipes. Buy Tescos own brand.
Bisto gravy. Buy Tescos own brand.
Kleenex. Buy Tescos own.

LegoHouse274 · 22/08/2025 14:53

Handwash - buy bar soap instead.
Branded ready salted crisps, buy supermarket own brands instead. Less rubbish in them too.
Slightly more expensive conditioner, buy the bottom end of the branded stuff instead and find it just as good. Same for shaving foam or even supermarket own brand is fine for that.
Barista style oat milk - used to buy Oatley now buy Asda's dupe instead, surprisingly it's really just as good and much cheaper.
Frozen Quorn mince - again buy Asda's own brand version, and everyone I tell this to agrees that it's better.

Fruitsherbert · 22/08/2025 14:55

Aldi face cream. Aldi suncream. Aldi or lidl aussie shampoo. Very discerning dd prefers Aldi tre semme conditioner.

I'm not sure baking really saves me any money, when I factor in the time spent preparing, cleaning up and the cost of using the oven.

Aaron95 · 22/08/2025 14:55

Fabric Conditioner. Did a load of tests and can't tell the difference whether the clothes were washed with it or without it.

heartsinvisiblefury · 22/08/2025 15:04

Morrisons Mars bars equivalent are absolutely amazing !

SpottyDottie98 · 22/08/2025 15:04

There are only 2 things I buy that aren't Lidl own brand products- Yorkshire teabags, and Fairy Liquid. Oh, and I buy a brand of frozen parathas from Tesco, but only because Lidl don't sell them.

Stopped buying Lurpak for Norpak from Aldi, got the idea from here, just as good.

Better than norpak is the spreadable 76% west Country butter with sea salt. Black tub.Lidl deluxe range

WifeOfAGemini · 22/08/2025 11:52

Also not sure it’s cheaper but homemade guacamole is a million times better than the green mush from the shop. I suspect same can be said for hummus but I haven’t tried it yet.

Home made Houmous can work out expensive as good quality Tahini is pricey. I suppose depends on how much you eat.

Cherrysoup · 22/08/2025 15:12

Danepak instead of Lurpak, tastes the same.

Asda Shades loo roll, it’s the only one I’ll use now.

I can’t give up my Yorkshire tea biscuit flavour, tho, tried multiple dupes and the boxes are sitting in the cupboard still. 🙁

Velmy · 22/08/2025 15:22

I quite like a dash of Disaronno in my coffee over Christmas. My brother pointed out that the 6 quid Aldi version tastes exactly the same.

Mildmanneredmum · 22/08/2025 15:33

Whispering Angel rose wine, £23.00 even in JS.
Aldi dupe £10.99 - recommended and delicious

Emmz1510 · 23/08/2025 12:15

Lots of supermarket own brands are cheaper and as good or better than branded items. One that sticks out is Tesco’s own version of fruit and fibre cereal. I much prefer it to Kelloggs.

Emmz1510 · 23/08/2025 12:16

Isn’t it interesting just how often Aldi and Lidl are coming up on this thread?

dizzydizzydizzy · 23/08/2025 12:45

Ariela · 22/08/2025 12:33

Waitrose baked beans are better than Heinz, Branstons, or any other supermarket own brand IMHO. Family can tell if I substitute.

I was going to say the same.
