Amanda Knox

I see there is another Amanda Knox series out on Hulu/Disney. I've always followed the case closely. But I have mixed feelings. At first I thought Amanda was involved in the murder but as time has gone on, there isn't a shred of proof (from a DNA pov) against her. But should she continue to make money from the case? I feel deeply sorry for Meredith's family. As her sister Stephanie said, Meredith is the 'forgotten victim' in this. I understand she did spend 4 years behind bars and wants to be vindicated - and she does help other innocent victims who have been jailed - but I feel it's too much now and that Meredith is being lost in it all. What do you think?

Its true that she came across as an unlikeable character but I think she was innocent. Just because she was odd and uncaring didnt make her guilty.

I found Amanda and her reaction to Meredith's death distinctly odd. Although she was found innocent, i thought her to be unsympathetic and unlikeable.

Which is the attitude form powerful people that got her falsely imprisoned for 4 years.

why do women have to be sympathetic and likeable? Why is it even noteworthy? We do our sex a disservice if we expect loveliness all the time - it leads to the exact situation Amanda found herself in.

HelloCheekyCat · 21/08/2025 20:33

That is why the story is told over and over again with little thought of Meredith's family. That in itself is not Amanda's fault

Exactly
It's not Amanda's fault it's always her name and not Meredith's being used, she wants justice for Meredith which will.never happen because Rudy literally got away with murder.
Amanda does a lot of advocacy work for people wrongfully convicted & imprisoned so she's using her platform for good.
And those saying she wouldn't use her story to make.money, Rafael has never been able to hold down a job since becaUse of it, so what is she going to do? She can't just get a job in her local Wal-Mart...

She definitelty has a lack of empathy and is a cold person

I saw an interview Amanda Knox did much later on.

In it she said that after hearing about Meredith's murder she didn't think about Meredith at all, she thought about herself. She thought "thankfully it wasnt me"

She said that only when she had a child herself did she think more about meredith and what merediths parents went through

Was it the Netflix interview?

She definitely said she thought “It could have been me” but I don’t think she said didn’t think about Meredith (I could be wrong).

Nevertheless it’s a normal response. We are human afterall. I have known people thank their stars it wasn’t them. Flight or fight and all that.

Re the parenting comment - I think that counts for a lot of us. Parenting gives us a new layer of empathy and perspective.

No e of it means she doesn’t give a shit that Meredith was killed

PrawnofthePatriarchy · 21/08/2025 20:33

Amanda Knox is entirely innocent of Meredith Kerchner's murder. She was essentially framed by the Italian criminal justice system and it took years for her to be exonerated.

I don't give a flying fuck if she did cartwheels or snogged her BF. It's entirely irrelevant. She was an innocent young woman dragged through a terrible ordeal and I support her right to do anything she wants to to put things right and earn money to cover her legal costs. She was a victim and I wholeheartedly support the poor woman.

That sounds like a pretty normal response for an emotionally immature teenager tbh.

And most people can’t comprehend the pure, unadulterated, gut-wrenching horror of losing a child until they have one of their own.

I disagree.

One of my friends was murdered when I was a teenager.

I felt a lot of empathy and kindness for her parents at the time. We all brought them a card and a present. I sat with her mother and comforted her, when I was a teenager

Do you think the police made it up? Genuine question. Why would they do that?

I KNOW the police made a lot of things up. It’s well reported.

Why would they do that? If you understood the depth of misogyny and xenophobia towards Americans in certain parts of Italy, you’d understand. If you know the infamous level of corruption in the Italian justice system, you’d understand

If she gave a shit about meredith, then why not say it somewhere.

In all of her interviews she talks about herself

IMO AK is wrong to capitalise from such a tragedy. She would be quick to point the finger if she were in Meredith's shoes....

BridgetRandomfuck · 21/08/2025 20:36

I feel incredibly sorry for Amanda Knox (it goes without saying that I also feel for the Kerchers whose daughter died so horribly). Rudy Guede clearly did the crime, yet because Knox possibly behaved oddly after being interviewed for 30hrs people are still flinging blame at her. Maybe she didn’t behave as you woulld expect - in reality she barely knew Meredith, they’d been flatmates for a couple of weeks, she would be shocked and saddened but not necessarily devastated. Maybe she’s neourodiverse, who knows. But until you’re in that situation, who knows how they would react. She’d also only known Sollecito for a matter of weeks, so it’s not like she was surrounded with people who could look out for her. I don’t blame her for telling her story in the slightest.

Why do you refuse to consider they did exist, just cos you didn't see them?

I saw it at the time, a documentary, news report whatever. I vividly remember her straddling her boyfriend and dicking about. Why would I make it up?

I asked ChatGpt why I can't find the video:

Why you can’t easily find it now
The footage is owned by Italian broadcasters, so it isn’t freely distributed online.

You’ll only see it inside licensed productions (like Netflix’s documentary or news specials), not as a standalone YouTube clip.

Some short clips have been uploaded over the years, but many get taken down due to copyright.

There are places that you can see these kind of things - it doesn’t exist because it didn’t happen.

Ok, thank you. I'm going to read more about this case.
I do think she was judged because of her sexuality and drug taking in a way that a man wouldn't have been.

CaveMum · 21/08/2025 20:37

I really recommend listening to Real Crime Profile’s investigation into the case of Meredith’s murder in 2016. It’s a victim centric podcast with very sympathetic hosts so handles the case delicately over several episodes.

Part 1 here: https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/real-crime-profile/id1081244497?i=1000377435792

Later, in 2023, one of the hosts interviewed Amanda on her own separate podcast which was really interesting: https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/crime-analyst/id1545830333?i=1000532561812

That you Amanda Knox?🤨🤔

Fluffyholeysocks · 21/08/2025 20:38

I think we dont expect people to act so bizarrely when someone is murdered. I for one would not be strokeing and hanging off my boyfriend. I'm not powerful, had no impact on the case but surely as a bystander would hope the police would investigate such an odd and bizarre reaction to to my flatmate's murder.

ImGoingUpstairsToTakeOffMyHat · 21/08/2025 20:38

usedtobeaylis · 21/08/2025 20:26

Is it also not the case that they only knew each other for a couple of months before she was murdered?

I don’t think k it was even that long, and they weren’t really mates. Meredith had met own mates and Amanda had hers. I remember thinking how sad it is that women not being gal pals with everyone is seen as suspicious

ImGoingUpstairsToTakeOffMyHat · 21/08/2025 20:39

LeticiaMorales · 21/08/2025 20:27

Was the odd behaviour down to drugs? Rudy was known to her and Sollecito because RG was a drug dealer..
Correct me if I'm wrong..

Weed wouldn’t make you behave like that. Shock would

Ok. See above for my comment about her being judged for the drug use.

Applebun · 21/08/2025 20:40

Anyway amanda is innocent. And she was used by the media at the time to sell papers and magazines.

Man kills foreign student - not that shocking.

Woman kills student in sex orgy gone wrong - more shocking and sells more papers

She was

If i remember correctly, Guede knew Knox and Kercher via the male flatmates who lived downstairs as he played sports with the guys, one of whom was friendly with Kercher. But I don't think they really knew each other well iirc

Applebun · 21/08/2025 20:44

Its sad. Guede probably sexually assaulted her. Then panicked and killed her

ImGoingUpstairsToTakeOffMyHat · 21/08/2025 20:44

Applebun · 21/08/2025 20:30

How do you know what i have been through?

I had a friend that was murdered when I was a teenager actually. I didn't do a cartwheel!

Im allowed to have my opinion of amanda.

I think she is odd, weird, has a lack of empathy (I've seen a later interview amanda did where she said she felt nothing for Meredith after she died) and she has narcissistic traits.

I don't think she is a murderer

Edited

So what if you didn’t do a cartwheel - I’m not saying all people with murdered friends do cartwheels FFS. I’m saying acting odd is totally normal, and you’re not a better person than Amanda just because you didn’t

Narcissitic how??

All I see is an imperfect woman who was a bit of a princess at the age of 20. How is any of this relevant. Except for the fact that it got her locked away for a crime she didn’t commits whilst half wits who’d believe anything the daily mail feeds them were positively teeming with glee about it
