The song lyric from bayonets 'heated' goes

Liberated, livin' like we ain't got time

I'm happy with using 'aint' but does there need to be a : after 'liberated?' Or a comma? 🙈

The 'genius' lyrics show a comma after liberated, but i dont wanna be shamed on pedants corner one day

Also, would you use livin' or living? I prefer living

Its for a tattoo idea

Tia x

I genuinely thought you was trying to wind Op up and then your response came across as cocky so if my comment did come across as rude it was in retaliation to what I thought was you being cocky

Ok. Well no need for retaliation as I wasn't being cocky.

My DS and I love watching Paw Patrol together but I’m not going to get “Rubble at the double” tattooed across my face.

Honestly just don’t do it.

Omg 😭😭😭

That's a lovely reason to get it.

Thank you 😊

I just came on to say this - you need it to be decently sized or it will just turn into a blob as it ages.

@smallslyfox this doesn't sound so bad

Official lyric video is here -there's no comma at all, despite there being commas used elsewhere in this video.

😄 its gonna be a small tattoo

I'm thinking on my collarbone

Ouch!

mumofoneAloneandwell · 20/08/2025 18:21

👀 whats the lyric?

I secretly want a the 1975 tattoo but the time has passed

It would be VERY outing or I’d let you know. It was from a 1993 song by a well known band.

I'd use a comma there rather than a colon.

(Professional proofreader and copywriter)

Agreed, a tattoo on the colon should be avoided as so few people are going to see it, unless you are that drunk person down near the Job Centre.
Are you?

BitOutOfPractice · 20/08/2025 19:30

I love tattoos but I’m not sure your love for that song will stand the test of time.

😄 the song is iconic! Beyonce dancing to it on the Renaissance tour!

Plus, what it means

I would do comma and living rather than livin'.

But also if I had a Beyonce tattoo I'd probably go for "I've got hot sauce in my bag"

Collarbone? I've never had a tattoo, and even I know that that's a very painful place to have a tattoo.

Haha no, think Britpop.

beachwalkx · 20/08/2025 16:30

I mean you could apply that to anything
why colour your hair it’ll only go grey
why exercise, we all die anyway

pretty depressing way to see things! My tattoos will be just be older and wrinklier like the rest of me

I don’t think tattoos go blue with age anymore?

DramaAlpaca · 20/08/2025 19:46

PrincessOfPreschool · 20/08/2025 16:13

Oh, I was about to say livin' goes better with ain't.

I agree.

I wouldn't want it on myself, but this looks best. Oh, and definitely a comma, not a colon.

DarlingHoldMyHand · 20/08/2025 23:19

If I was going to get a Renaissance tattoo this horse one off Reddit is epic, but each to their own

MumOnBus · 20/08/2025 23:30

BadWoIf · 20/08/2025 14:55

I think using a colon afer "liberated" implies that what follows is a definition of liberated, which in this case it isn't, so I'd use a comma.
If the lyrics say livin' rather than living, I'd go with that.
But are you quite sure that you the words from this particular song inscribed on you for the rest of time? People's tastes change and this one seems like one you might grow out of.

Edited

This!
I haven't got a tatoo but i wrote a snippet of a song on my dissertation and I hate that it's there forever, even though that the song itself is no longer that cool (got played in the radio for many many weeks after I submitted).
Having said that, if you want to tatoo that verse of the song, don't correct the grammar. If it says livin' then keep those lyrics.

PurpleChrayn · 20/08/2025 23:39

I’m not sure why you wouldn’t go the whole hog and get “make the bummy heated” too.

doubleshift · 20/08/2025 23:42

You might want to repost on the Beyoncé Reddit for more expert opinions.
you only get once chance to get it right!

And I'm glad you clarified as I thought The Bayonets might be some new cool indie band

It’s a great name for a band! I wish I was in one, so I could suggest that we name ourselves that…

It wasn't the 1993 Christmas no 1, was it?! Does that act count as a band?!
