Wearing shoes indoors

Just a casual chat to see who's wearing their trainers / shoes indoors versus who leaves them by the door (and asks all visitors to do the same)

I'll start...

Floor Type: Tiles
All shoes taken off and left by the front door on the racks

OP posts:

Hard floor. Shoes off.

BogRollBOGOF · 14/08/2025 13:41

Whatever is comfortable and practical. There isn't a firm rule.

FinallyHere · 14/08/2025 15:25

I’ve only ever lived in shoes off households, wearing socks, slippers or bare feet

even elderly , diabetic DH who has been told to not walk around in bare feet managed to keep indoor and outdoor shoes separate.

Neveranynamesleft · 14/08/2025 15:26

Shoes left at the door.

Indianajet · 14/08/2025 15:27

Shoes on - I live alone and can do as I like. I do take them off if they are wet/dirty.

Jiski · 14/08/2025 15:33

Shoes off except for parties

SoftPillow · 14/08/2025 15:34

Shoes on, unless kids and/or mucky. Mixed flooring.

Bluenan · 14/08/2025 15:37

Downstairs hard floors shoes on, upstairs carpeted, shoes off. No babies or young children household.

TotallyAddictedToCoffee · 14/08/2025 15:43

Shoes on everywhere

We have 4 cats and a dog, so the floors are never "clean" and I don't like standing in hairballs/dead birds/dog sick

Lickityspit · 14/08/2025 15:45

mixture of hard floors and carpet. Shoes on to get into house and then off and in shoe cupboard in hall. If very wet or muddy shoes off at door.

DappledThings · 14/08/2025 15:46

Shoes off, do it automatically on entering anyone's home. To me it would feel weird not to, like keeping a coat on or wearing my day clothes to bed! But I have no opinions on guests and whether they want to or not

MrsEmmelineLucas · 14/08/2025 15:47

Hard floors. Not bothered. The floors are there for us, we're not there for the floors.

DiordreBarlow · 14/08/2025 15:51

Shoes on. We're decorating and the carpets are all up. Carpet gripper strip everywhere so no bare feet.

peacetree · 14/08/2025 15:53

Shoes off in my home.
I dont like wearing shoes full stop.

Love this. Exactly what we do too.

Wexone · 14/08/2025 15:54

Shoes on - working house here need to quickly run in and out. shoes warmer plus aswell safer. rather have house full of visitors with shoes on than be worried about dirty floors etc. am not precious and apart from my chronic pain illness (not caused by dirty floors ) we are not sick.

pizzaHeart · 14/08/2025 15:56

Shoes off.

EchoedSilence · 14/08/2025 15:56

Hard floors. No rules about shoes.

youalright · 14/08/2025 15:59

Shoes off always carpet and tiles. I dont have a problem with guests leaving their shoes on if they prefer but me and the family don't and I always take shoes of when I visit others unless their gross

3awesomestars · 14/08/2025 16:14

Generally shoes on, but whatever people prefer, mainly hard floors. Got dogs and cats and kids and for me life is too short for me to be too bothered.

Zuve · 14/08/2025 16:15

Shoes stay by the front door. Not in the house

Where do you live if we left shoes outside the front door someone would steal them

MyAcornWood · 14/08/2025 16:22

We live (and work!) on a farm, its shoes off, for everyone, always 😅 mix of slate, wood and carpeted floors.

The ducks occasionally try to move in and leave little paddle-pat footprints all through the house, guess they can’t very well remove shoes!

Bonbon249 · 14/08/2025 16:40

Flooring - laminate and rugs. Shoes off, slippers on.
