Wearing shoes indoors

ThePoliteHelper · 14/08/2025 13:33

Just a casual chat to see who's wearing their trainers / shoes indoors versus who leaves them by the door (and asks all visitors to do the same)

I'll start...

Floor Type: Tiles
All shoes taken off and left by the front door on the racks

Hard floor. Shoes off.

Unless I have to nip back in for something. But its hoovered everyday and mopped about twice sometimes 3 times a week

Shoes off. I grew up in a shoes off household as did DP.
I always take my shoes off when I go to other people’s houses.

HeddaGarbled · 14/08/2025 16:52

I take mine off but I don’t ask visitors to.

Interesting. Seems like the UK is becoming more and more of a shoes off country. Most of the world is shoes off so I guess as people become more internationally aware it’s not surprising that people adopt more global practices.

Can there honestly be a need for this discussion on mumsnet again?! There are at least 27 previous threads if you Google. There’s even one about shoes etiquette in Covid FFS.

Anyone can wear shoes or take them off its up to them doesn't bother me at all either way

PrincessJasmine1 · 14/08/2025 17:07

Hard floors downstairs, carpets upstairs. Shoes off obviously. It's so unhigienic. Why creating extra work for yourself?

mondaytosunday · 14/08/2025 17:09

I don’t care if people wear shoes inside. I don’t think I noticed people taking shoes off til I moved to this country

Carpets and hard floor
Shoes off at the door
I will provide shoe coverings for people who dont want to take their shoes off

cinnamongirl123 · 14/08/2025 17:23

I let guests wear shoes in our house, but not us lol
I wear ballet flats that never go outside, so theyre like shoes but clean

JillMW · 14/08/2025 17:56

Wooden floors and carpet. Everyone comes in the back except very special occasions. Never need to ask, people always leave shoes on shoe rack. I have a box of disposable slippers in case anyone is worried about their feet but rarely taken. Weirdly my in-laws always left their shoes on, even in their own home they would sit until bed time in formal work shoes, that Does not seem comfy to me they would not leave their coats on.

Tiles throughout downstairs - shoes on.

At the entrance of each bedroom is a pair of slippers / the kids just take their shoes off at the bedroom threshold and have socks.
