Misconceptions about women

What's the most ridiculous comment you've seen or heard relating to female bodies?

Examples:

Inserting tampons is pleasurable.
If a girl doesn't bleed the first time, she wasn't a virgin.
Tampon sizes are related to vagina size rather than levels of absorbency.
Women don't have leg hair above the knees.

Gcse biology lesson with a male substitute teacher who drew out the female reproductive system incorrectly and refused to accept it was wrong when challenged by female pupils.

Oh dear. Which bits did he get wrong?

Some more gems:

A group of women will always have periods at the same time because their cycles sync.

There's direct correlation between labia size and sex. The longer the labia the more sex and partners a woman has had.

Women pee from the same hole babies come out.

Nipples only have one hole each for milk. In reality, they're more like a shower head - average number of openings per nipple is 9.

More than one woman is called womans.

I have very little hair above the knee. In fact, I don’t really see or feel any but I’ll say very little as I’ll get jumped on for lying

SunlitUpland · 14/08/2025 08:21

Who is saying these things?

LavaHoover · 14/08/2025 08:48

Isn't that just stuff that kids think though? Kids think all sorts of ridiculous stuff is true, about all subjects (not just female bodies).

ObtuseMoose · 14/08/2025 08:49

I've literally never heard anyone say any of those things out loud, who's saying those things to you?

Richandstrange · 14/08/2025 09:01

I once heard a guy say that women were disgusting for not holding their period blood in til they got to the toilet Shock

Apollonia1 · 14/08/2025 11:18

An ex-boyfriend didn’t seem to understand how tampons work.
I said they act as a kind-of plug, and soak up the blood and prevent leakages. He just guffawed and said incredulously “hahaha, who told you that!”. I was about 30 at the time, so had plenty of experience of periods.
I still wonder what he actually thought tampons did. Confused

I’m now wondering what he can have possibly thought tampons did? And how you resisted asking him??

LyricalGangsta · 14/08/2025 11:27

I think some men think the tampon sort of gets wedged between the labia horizontally…. Much like a frankfurter in a bun 🌭

😂 I worked with four other women once and this actually happened, we all ended up having periods at the same time, we didn’t when we first started working together

SellingBananas · 14/08/2025 11:37

That lesbians pose the same threat in women's toilets as straight men

EmeraldRoulette · 14/08/2025 11:45

@unstoppabletoday where are you hearing this crap?

ginasevern · 14/08/2025 12:11

That you can't get pregnant whilst breastfeeding - a common misconception amongst women!

Aquabluemouse · 14/08/2025 13:41

I have been told by multiple men that women’s thigh gaps are a sign of how many men they’ve slept with. So if you have a wide thigh gap then you’ve slept with loads of men. I explained it is to do with body fat and nothing to do with sex but none of them would accept that.

Also, if you say a woman is bubbly then many men assume you mean over weight. I had a gorgeous tall slim friend who had a lovely bubbly personality. She was single and open to being set up. I had a number of male friends asking if I had any single friends. When I told them about her and her bubbly personality, they all said variations of “you mean she’s fat”. It didn’t matter how many times I said no, I’m talking about her personality, not her physique, none of them would accept what I was saying and kept saying bubbly means fat.

EmeraldRoulette · 14/08/2025 14:01

@Aquabluemouse adult men in real life?

SarahAndQuack · 14/08/2025 14:08

The horrible one that comes to mind is the American lawmakers who wanted to insist that ectopic pregnancies should be reimplanted in the womb - nightmarish on so many levels.

And also the persistent belief that childbirth is just a bit uncomfortable for most women, and then it's over and everything is fine.

wearyourpinkglove · 14/08/2025 19:37

I think some men think it's a one size fits all approach to the female orgasm... slept with a bloke who told me I must be a lesbian because he hadn't made me orgasm but all the other women he had slept with had...

I dont have any either.

LyricalGangsta · 15/08/2025 08:26

@wearyourpinkglove
What you said reminded me of a guy that asked why I didn’t want to meet him again after we hooked up a few times….
”Was I not intellectually stimulating or something? Because I KNOW I am sexually stimulating” (or something similar along those lines)
I had to explain that smashing away like an out of control jackhammer is hardly stimulating for many women. He was very perplexed at this revelation.

DancingLions · 15/08/2025 09:27

Someone I know said they used to think that when women had a period, it just all came out at once and that was that! I laughed and said "I wish".

On a more serious note, the fact that it's still seen as acceptable by many to buy a womans body. Imo this is something that should have died out long ago.

unstoppabletoday · 15/08/2025 19:38

All over @EmeraldRoulette. A few from an ex boyfriend, some from old colleagues, male friends, TV and social media. All grown adults.

This is a good few years old now but it was disappointing to see a woman perpetuating the tampon myth:
