Reading Festival - Sunday collection help please .l

After Sunday night at Boardmasters my kid and their mates don't want to stay Sunday night at Reading.

They are camping Thursday, plan to take down the tent Sunday afternoon and then go into watch the last act (singer/band who knows) and then go home.

Is there any way I can get into the festival to collect the tent and then either stay with the car until they are ready to be collected?

Or are their shuttle buses in and out?

I will obviously Google , but real experience is worth so much.

Thank you.

No you can’t get in but they can bring stuff out and no shuttle busses. They’ll have to walk to meet you. I don’t know what time they start enforcing restrictions but it is well organised for pick up locations.

I have several readings under my old belt, they are making the right decision. Sunday was always a bit rough but is a lot worse now.

Someiremember · 12/08/2025 17:36

Park up
bring a book
and wait for them to walk to you!

JamDisaster · 12/08/2025 17:37

They pack up and bring the stuff out to you. We usually meet on St Anne’s Road which is easy to get to and doesn’t have restrictions.

There’s a supermarket in walking distance that my dc stocked up at, perhaps there. Think it was Aldi

KidsHaveAllTheFun · 12/08/2025 17:56

Thank you- they are more than happy to walk, I just wasn't sure about the logistics of it all.

I have a book I have been saving for just such an occasion, plus I'm lucky I can sleep anywhere!

I don't know Reading at all, off to look at Google maps, is there anywhere I should avoid?

Also just checking I have the right place, it is south of the river?

If so I would rather be south of the river as well.

Thanks

Yes it is but in that case you should just go to the designated met up point, Hills Meadow, which is a bit of a schlep and will mean a lot of traffic, but will be fine. Anywhere else south of the river will be controlled parking.

KidsHaveAllTheFun · 12/08/2025 20:36

Thanks @JamDisaster to get to St Anne's avenue it looks like I need to cross the bridge, so I guess I will be in major traffic there anyway.

So maybe the main pickup will be easier.

KidsHaveAllTheFun · 12/08/2025 20:37

I am being thick or is Hills Meadow north of the river?

Thinking maybe Aldi is the answer and wait elsewhere

Hills Meadow is north of the river. Next to Reading Bridge

whatdoidonowffs · 12/08/2025 21:49

I thought boardmasters was in Newquay ?
check you’re going to the right one that would be a hell of a mistake 😂😂😂

knackeredmumoftwo · 12/08/2025 21:51

There is a Frankie and bennies / we went for a meal with all the other parents collecting and parked in their car park to pick up after the last act

if you're meeting them earlier then you can use the car park in the shopping area near by

most of the on street parking is coned off

ZaraSpellman · 12/08/2025 21:57

Bring air freshener/ Fabreeze but good on them for bringing their tent back loads just leave them

Did you mean TGI Fridays? TGI Friday is in the same retail park as Aldi and has a large car park

That would be a big mistake 😂. They have just come back from Boardmasters, and said Sunday was scary- they don't fancy doing it Sunday night at Reading.

Thanks all for the information only concerned that a retail park would have limited time to park. I am going to be waiting around for hours.

My DD was at Reading a couple of times - the last time I got a phone call at about midnight on the Sunday / Monday saying it was awful - fires being lit etc and she was v used to festivals etc
She would have been at the older end - 17 at the time
Reading seems to be for 14-16 year olds and they go wild (especially if just had their GCSE results!)

queenofthewild · 13/08/2025 00:13

Please use the designated pick up at Hills Meadow. It’s efficient and well organised.

otherwise car parks (Aldi for sure and some others) have cameras and you will get a fine in the post if you wait there. They are merciless.

PLEASE for the love of god steer clear of St Anne’s hill. It’s a quiet residential road. The car door slamming the the small hours last year drove me insane.

KidsHaveAllTheFun · 13/08/2025 07:20

@queenofthewild where I live we have the same issue, only twice a year thankfully but agree it is the doors that slam more than the talking that is annoying.

@MumofSpud that's what they are worried about. They said Boardmasters was bad enough, I am about four hours away so couldn't be called at short notice.

I had read on here in the past that Sunday night was awful, but being teens they said it would be fine- but Boardmasters showed them that I was right.

LoudSnoringDog · 13/08/2025 07:23

What happens on a Sunday?? Is it bad for anything in particular?

KidsHaveAllTheFun · 13/08/2025 07:23

I've booked a parking space very near the Tesco Extra, it looked to have things around it for me to do whilst waiting and doesn't seem that far (20 mins according to maps) from the festival.

Can anyone advise if this is a decent place (I paid extra so I could cancel) to

A. Walk from festival to drop their stuff off?
B. Walk back after the last act?

If A, is ok I am happy to drive nearer if B isn't.

Thanks.

Following as I'm doing the same!

Redhairandhottubs · 13/08/2025 07:29

Yes, Tesco Extra is a good place to park. A bit of a walk when carrying loads of stuff but it’s fine.

GU24Mum · 13/08/2025 07:32

Are you in Reading all day? If you are, could you pick up the bags much earlier so your DC can make a quick getaway. My OH ended up with a parking ticket at the station as he didn’t read the signs but it was easy for them both to find.

My DC was at Boardmasters on Sunday night and had his stuff set fire to - but a friend’s son was attacked and had a much worse time. Having survived Reading for one and Boardmasters for two children, I’m tempted to ban at least Boardmasters (as it’s so far from us) from the younger DC. Hope it goes well.

NameChangePoP · 13/08/2025 07:36

Hi OP. I live in Reading, about 400 metres from the festival. Booking a space at the Tesco Extra is perfect - there are two, which one is it? It’s very close (as the crow flies). If you need any extra help or advice just give me a shout.

Agreed having had a ticket 3 years ago!
It’s a mini retail park containing Aldi. TGIs, Majestic and a few others. Don’t go near it!!
