Does anyone use Hello Fresh?

I just received our first box. Either we eat grossly huge portions or they appear to think I'm feeding toddlers as opposed to adults? This is the chicken portion and mashed potatoes for 3 people. Is this normal?

@NewsdeskJC exactly! I love the concept and wish it was as good as it promises to be. But used both HF and Gusto and the quality is just appalling. I gave up!

MiddleAgedDread · 12/08/2025 15:36

270g of dry pasta is generous for 3 people! how much do the potatoes weigh?
I found their portions sufficient but sometimes added extra veg to the recipes to bulk them out. I thought Gusto was better, more choice and better quality ingredients.

SpinningTops · 12/08/2025 15:50

On this note, do they do referrals? I’d like to try a Gousto box and know in the past people can give away free boxes.

We do hello fresh every week and find the portions fine. The pasta dishes are usually more generous. That said, I usually pad put the meals with additional ingredients....extra veggies, salad or bread with pasta dishes etc

Wonderknicks · 12/08/2025 16:07

I use hello fresh & do find the portions very generous (& I like my food & am overweight). I think it varies as I did have a noodle thing last week that wasn't so generous. I'm just trying gousto as I'm on my own & they do sad single person meals. I couldn't eat all the gnocchi LL ast night.

Fallulah · 12/08/2025 16:17

We did it for almost a year (until the special offers ran out) and found the portions quite large on most things except fish, which was quite stingy.

We couldn’t stand the amount of plastic though - so many little wrappers, bags etc! I kept all the recipe cards and we sometimes cook our favourites ourselves now.

GonnaeNoDaeThatJustGonnaeNo · 12/08/2025 16:19

We get Hello Fresh.

yes you are normally eating portions that are too large.

LlamaNoDrama · 12/08/2025 14:43

Yikes well I'll definitely be reviewing our portion sizes then. I know our plates are rather large, I serve several dinners up in our pasta bowls because they're smaller.

add extra green veg if you feel you need more

Aspidistree · 12/08/2025 16:28

Do you know what weight of potatoes that was? It is hard to tell how big the potatoes are, even with a cherry tomato for scale. I reckon on 200g ish potatoes or 75g pasta, but I am notoriously bad at estimating portions of potatoes. They seem to grow or shrink massively during the cooking process.

Yeah this. I find Hello Fresh and Gousto are both quite stingy on the veg if anything. Often only one type of vegetable with each meal.

ThePure · 12/08/2025 16:33

We use them regularly for 2 adults and 2 teens and find the portions spot on or too much in fact.

Blobbitymacblob · 12/08/2025 16:39

My rough portion estimation is quarter of the dinner plate is carbs, quarter meat, half veg.

Dabberlocks · 12/08/2025 16:49

A friend of mine uses them and seems happy - she's always sending me vouchers to sign up but I can't be bothered. The name Hello Fresh puts me off actually - it makes me think of feminine hygiene products.😂

Wynter25 · 12/08/2025 16:53

Did once. Never again. Too expensive and portions too small.

GasPanic · 12/08/2025 16:56

I think that all looks a bit miserable.

Momstermash94 · 12/08/2025 16:57

Love the one rogue cherry tomato 🤣

To answer your question, I think that portion of potatoes look tiny! 1 chicken breast per person seems right to me though

Pinkflower100 · 12/08/2025 17:20

If anyone would like a referral for hello fresh I have some discount offers if you’d like to pm me.

Wonderknicks · 12/08/2025 17:40

The other weird thing about hello fresh is that there are almost never onions in the recipe. When I cook I always use onions!
I have a code for gousto if you want to pm me.

MrsPerfect12 · 12/08/2025 17:42

I’ve been using it for a few years and it’s massively helped my portion control.
It is big enough. You’re not showing the veg that will be included.

Dozer · 12/08/2025 17:43

Portions are OK (2 adults and 2 teens, no leftovers) but hardly any vegetables are provided and there’s lots of packaging.

I find it takes much longer to prepare the meals than stated (I am quick in the kitchen) and often an annoying number of items of equipment, eg pans.

Agree @Wonderknicks about the weird absence of onions! Wonder whether it’s because chopping onions can be tedious.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 12/08/2025 14:40

We have 60g of pasta per person and that seems fine 😅

Let the under eaters’ games begin! Any advance on 60g?
55g anyone?

Annony331 · 12/08/2025 18:09

Found them to be very nice but small portions.

Used them when offer was in play and then cancelled

So witty! 🙄

TessTickle0 · 12/08/2025 19:41

Gousto so much better, better recipes by far.
Give those a try next 😀

Gettingbysomehow · 12/08/2025 19:43

The whole thing is a massive expensive con and the ordering system pisses me off so I've never bought any.
