It does matter. They are two separate words with two completely different meanings, and it is straightforward to decide which to use.

You're is short for YOU ARE.
(So, for example, "you're looking very well.")

Your refers to belonging to, or associated with a person.
(So, for example, "your coat is in the other room.")

If you're not sure, just ask yourself if you are trying to say YOU ARE, or not!

I'm sure - thanks.

Your being a little pedantic.

Theirs nothing wrong with the odd grammatical error.

One or too mistakes is fine.

Or waist time wandering about...

SoScarletItWas · 12/08/2025 07:17

I would of thought everyone knew that.

FancyCatSlave · 12/08/2025 07:20

Well done for figuring that out @marshmallowfinder

Do you have SEND or are you just a bit slow? You seem a bit old to be confused about that.

FinnAgle · 12/08/2025 07:20

For all intensive purposes, grammer matters.

English is not my mother tongue, we started to learn it when I was about 9. I remember learning this when I was about 12 so I'm gobsmacked that a native speaker wouldn't know this.

If you think this is going to help anyone, you’ve got another [insert the correct word here] coming…Grin

It's such a mindfield though, isn't it?

Yeah, it’s hardly there fault if they don’t know alot.

Damnloginpopup · 12/08/2025 07:34

newyearsresolurion · 12/08/2025 07:39

Everyone who went to school knows that it's mostly typos on here

LindorDoubleChoc · 12/08/2025 07:41

... and breath, OP.

LyricalGangsta · 12/08/2025 07:46

Why have you bought this up?

ParvuliThankYouDebbie · 12/08/2025 07:48

I tend to put people what get their grammar right on a pedal stool.

Anchorage56 · 12/08/2025 07:50

I know the difference between the two but sometimes when typing a quick reply I just type out your rather than you're. I dont expect people to pick up on that whilst debating something.

CleanShirt · 12/08/2025 07:52

This seems like a loosing battle.

sashh · 12/08/2025 07:53

Homonyms OP or homophones in your example is the name they is called.

MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 12/08/2025 07:54

I hole heartedly agree
