Not my finest artwork, but if vehicle A is is indicating to turn to their right (left in pic!) and vehicle B wants to go straight on, whose right of way is it?

It’s not who gets there first, you always give way to your right.

But A won't have started off on the right as they are coming from the opposite direction,.so in my eyes it's whoever is at the junction first that gets to go first

fucking hell. please get a copy of the Highway Code and have a flick through

😂

Is the junction more like this? Depending on flow of traffic and where A is positioned I'd imagine B would just plough on through while A is getting into the junction.

I can be sat at the line on the roundabout, indicating right, while a whole run of Bs carry straight on. Does my head in! There may as well not be a roundabout and it just be a t junction to the right.

If I’m driver B and in the distance I see driver A with their right indicator on, I will slow down stop and let them go because they have right of way.

lemonraspberry · 10/08/2025 15:22

A has the right of way once on the roundabout. B would be able to go as it is going straight if A not on roundabout.

If they have approached the roundabout at the same time B could go as they could be clear of A by the time it makes its way around.

Both A and B should have double lines in front of them indicating they should be prepared to stop if there is a vehicle already on the roundabout and about to cross their path.

Oldraver · 10/08/2025 15:24

A has the right if way, though we have one near to us that was originally a t-junction and I have st approach it carefully as I know the B's sometimes (wrongly) try to power through

It's this sort of set up I think, but it's been a roundabout for decades. I think it's dangerous and surprised there aren't more accidents from overzealous Bs. When you then try to factor in pedestrians or cyclists wanting to cross, who also have right of way, it's chaos.

Good grief, it’s staggering how many people haven’t got a clue how to navigate a mini-roundabout. How some of you have passed your driving test, I’ve no idea. A has the right of way. You just treat a mini-roundabout exactly the same way as any roundabout. Give way to the traffic on your right. That’s it. Not complicated. Some of these responses are bonkers.

ParvuliThankYouDebbie · 10/08/2025 15:34

Always instructive to read a roundabout thread on MN. It really explains some of the previously, seemingly, inexplicable choices people seem to make on the roads on a daily basis round here.
Though I am not sure why the standard of driving is so bad, a friend of mine has only just passed her test to be a driving instructor - it was really difficult and took three attempts. Surely that should mean instructors are turning out better new drivers, not worse?

Absentmindedsmile · 10/08/2025 15:34

Rocketlady · 10/08/2025 15:10

And I've got my As and Bs muddled up. I am often vehicle A!

😂😂 that’s an issue when we’re discussing the rights and wrongs of A’s and B’s on a diagram

I think they are treating them the same. As I said, MN roundabout threads, always bonkers. 🤪

itsallsohard · 10/08/2025 15:38

B has right of way. Priority is based in where you enter the roundabout, not where you plan to exit. And B is as much to the right of A as A is to B; technically, as B is exiting at its second exit and A at its third, A is also behind B by the time it should be turning . Some of you really do need to reread the Highway Code!

A does not need to give way to B as B is not crossing the path of A.

You only need to give way to cars ON the roundabout. If you are sat there at the line you aren't on the roundabout so they don't need to give you priority. Slowly move onto the roundabout if there's no one coming from your right, anyone coming straight from B would be not giving way.

Sorry but this really isn't complicated and I'm a bit worried if it is for some drivers. Do you not get people behind beeping at you?

SparrowFeet · 10/08/2025 15:45

It depends. If A is already on the roundabout, B should give way. But if A is stopped and B can go straight before A approaches from the right, that’s fine—just like on a larger roundabout, you go when it’s clear to your right. You don't fanny about waiting for someone who hasn’t yet entered.

When I've done EXACTLY this I've had Bs beep at me though! And a motorcyclist shake his head at me 🤷‍♀️

Baroness have you misread the picture? A is crossing B's direct oath.

Thers a mini roundabout like this to turn into my road so I'm car A on a near daily basis and car B always give way to me. I must live in a town of excellent drivers 😁

BeltaLodaLife · 10/08/2025 14:51

A has priority.

You give way to vehicles coming from the right, so B has to give way to A.

They are both to each others right.

and that is because they are tits and shouldn't be driving.

Also the amount of people who indicate the opposite way to the one they are going in or don't indicate to come off the roundabout is shocking.

I've even had people change lanes in front of me (left or middle lane) while indicating to overtake?

WHY has this become a thing? What should the penalty be for idiots like these?
