Peter Kay show made me a little sad.

We went to see the wonderful Peter Kay last night. I have always loved his humour and yes it was very very funny in places.
However, I felt there was a real undertone of sadness in him. He lost his obviously beloved Nanna ans dedicates a part of the show to her. I felt after that the mood didn’t really lift. I know he had family in the audience. He also looked teary in various places.
I wanted to give him a hug. Maybe he was feeling emotional after being reunited with family. Has anyone else seen him recently?

Love Peter Kay but haven’t seen him for years, since he cancelled all his shows and withdrew from public life.

I believe at the time he just said it was personal / family problems and didnt elaborate (which he, of course, was not obligated to do).

im sad to hear he seems to have lost his spark and whatever issues he had are still present. Sad to hear he’s lost his nan, but she must have been a good age, I’d imagine there is more to it than that.

Hes always struck me as a lovely soul (and so hilarious), hopefully he will be ok.

He looked so sad and watery eyes at times. We are in Belfast and he was moved when he mentioned his family in the audience.
The actual stand up he did was hilarious really funny but the big staged finale was a bit of a damp squib after the slide show of his nana.

I think he is a lovely soul and obviously speaks so fondly of his wife Susan. I wish him well

I went last year and he was dead behind the eyes. It was sad. And I didn’t enjoy the show because I felt he wasn’t enjoying it.

@declutteringmyminddonyou think he’s tryimg
to fulfill the obligations he had before the cancellations?

He’s lucky he has family, some people don’t.

AngelofIslington · 10/08/2025 16:12

@Berlinlover what a bizarre thing to say.

Havingasmashingtime · 10/08/2025 16:13

I’m going to see him soon and have no excitement for it as I haven’t heard a good word about it - people saying he doesn’t look like he wants to be there or that he’s changed.
its sad and I wish him well - he’s a national treasure.
but yeah I don’t think I even want to go

What a weird response. Anyone can mourn for their dead, no matter how many other relatives they have. It's not a competition.

TheGriffle · 10/08/2025 16:16

We saw him in Sheffield a few months ago and felt he isn’t the same. The performance felt
like his heart wasn’t in it and it felt forced. We left feeling a bit dejected. It had some funny bits but it wasn’t great.

Greg Davies on the other hand, bloody hilarious and I had tears streaming down my face with laughter most of the time when we saw him. I know which one I’d rush to book to see again.

Eh?

declutteringmymind · 10/08/2025 16:21

Maybe it’s for the money? Maybe he wants to feel it again but doesn’t. It’s sad.

FanofLeaves · 10/08/2025 16:24

If I attended a comedy show and had to watch a slide show of someone’s dead nan I really wouldn’t be very impressed. I’m there to laugh, not wallow in someone else’s sadness.

DelphiniumDoreen · 10/08/2025 16:27

How sad.

Sounds like there was more to it than just losing a family member.

Really hope he gets his spark back but life can throw up some odd twists and turns.

With Phoenix nights etc and all the writing credits he’s had I can’t imagine he would need the money.

I could be wrong, but I really don’t think so. He’s not extravagant so I’d be imagine he’s set for life financially.

I don’t think he particularly courts fame either, so don’t think he’d be doing it simply to be in the limelight.

So I really don’t know, but I do wish him all the best.

My ex’s mum used to do his accounts, and believe me he’s not hard up. He never spends anything. Tighter than a drum.

AngelofIslington · 10/08/2025 16:36

I can’t comment on the concert but since the cancellation of his tour not one person, famous or not, or any newspapers have revealed what that actual reason is and they must know.
Its not often the British press can be applauded but I do think on this occasion they have acted responsibly

How strange..used to love him back in the day, wonder what’s happened to him 😔

Agree 💯
I saw him and didn’t enjoy the show at all …
he was miserable and I have sympathy for him..bit poor show .. he wasn’t ready !

JamesMacGill · 10/08/2025 17:29

What’s going on with him? Sounds like he needs to retire or commit to getting his joie e vivre back before performing. It can’t just be the Gran, sad as it is he’s bloody lucky to have had a grandparent to that age.

Life and death happened to him. Sounds like they've knocked him for six.Sad

I’m 90% sure he’s had cancer. When he was initially cancelling shows I had a friend who worked at the venue and they heard he’d got leukaemia. Then when he appeared on comic relief he looked very steroidal. It’s no one’s business of course but I do think he’s gone through a lot.

@Berlinlover what a bizarre thing to say.

True though. I'm the last leaf on the tree when my parents go. Be grateful if you have good family. some of us don't.

flapjackfairy · 10/08/2025 17:40

we saw him last year and it was disappointing sadly. He looks so different now that it took me ages to get my head around the fact that he was the same person. Gone was the slightly roly poly cheeky chappy persona and yes he seemed v sad. A shadow of his former self.
It was sad to.see
Really hope he recovers his strength and vitality as he is an amazing talent.

I did hear that he had leukemia. But I also heard that one of his children were ill (hopefully not true).

neither were verified sources, both just speculation online.

as a pp said, celebrities really do struggle to keep things secret, but everybody has been very tight lipped on Peter Kay, I really havent heard much at all.

Which is good, we are not entitled to know. And I don’t mean to come across as speculating and nosey. There’s a lot of love for him and I, and so many people, just wish him well.

waitingforthehallmarkedman · 10/08/2025 17:43

Went to see him at the O2 a couple of years ago, honestly it was cringy in places. Didn't enjoy it. Same old jokes that he used to do on TV.
