Anyone around... scared

I'm home alone with my 12 year old twins as my husband is working away and not due back until tomorrow evening. He's about 6 hours away.

Over the last few days I've had a painful boil under my boob. I saw the GP today as it doubled in size overnight. There is a red circle around it. She prescribed doxycycline (2 a day) and said to phone back if it gets worse.

I've been getting more and more unwell. My left arm has started tingling, I'm sweating with cold hands and feet, the pain is indescribable and I'm exhausted. I slept for 6 hours this afternoon and I'm still utterly exhausted and all my joints hurt.

I've had to phone my father in law who is an hour away to come through to sit with the twins. I'm on hold to 111 but a 45 minute wait to call answer as a minimum they said.

I'm not sure whether just to call a taxi when FIL gets here to go straight to accident and emergency.

I'm a little freaked out at how unwell I feel.

Wow, OP, what a fantastic family you have. Top marks to your DH, he sounds like a complete trouper. So lovely to hear stories like this (apart from the abscess bit) on MN which sadly is usually full of shitty husbands!

Glad you’re home and on the mend.

LardoBurrows · 10/08/2025 12:59

Your family sound lovely, how nice to read of a DH who cares enough about his wife to make sure she feels loved and cared for, your twins sound lovely too. Poor DD, I expect she is a bit shaken up to see her Mum so ill and vulnerable, hopefully the snuggling will help.

Also honourable mentions to the fantastic doctors and nurses who looked after you so well and last but not least, shout out to FIL who was there when you needed him and obviously has done sterling work on raising a decent man.

Look after yourself Op and get plenty of rest. 🌻

Yeah, the father-in-law getting there quick has stuck with me too - well done to him.

I can do without photos, but I'm fascinated by the vile smell .... sorry ....

Glad you are home and cossetted.

MarxistMags · 10/08/2025 13:16

I wish I had thought to take a photo of the t shirt I was wearing for the first pop. It was fascinatingly gross. Its gone off to be incinerated. RIP t shirt.

Brilliant news that you're home and are being cared for. Your children sound just lovely, they'll be so glad to see you're okay.

I would have been up for pics. Sporners corner would have been frothing at the mouth 🤣

WimbyAce · 10/08/2025 13:48

Glad you are home OP. You sound like a lovely person and your family equally so. Hope you recover nicely now. Best wishes xx

Very true. I'd have drawn a lot of comfort from it when I started having abscess problems. Mine were in a different spot, but they have things in common regardless of where they are; namely that they are nasty little bs and very common.

sugarrosepetal · 10/08/2025 14:10

Glad you're on the mend. What a lovely family unit you have. Your kids are a credit to you.

whatwasthatnoise · 10/08/2025 14:11

You're home! That's the best update :D And what a lovely home coming your family arranged for you.

DollieBantrysPantry · 10/08/2025 14:14

Glad you are home and on the mend, what a lovely homecoming it was too. I hope you continue to improve and get on ok when you have the check up on Tuesday

nunsflipflop · 10/08/2025 14:21

So glad to hear you are home. Plenty of rest for you please over the next week or so xx

Mumdiva99 · 10/08/2025 14:42

Good to hear you are home to a lovely home coming. Rest up.

Yetmorewifework · 10/08/2025 14:43

I'm very glad you are home, @DarkSuitsSadSongs and how lovely that your family gave you such a wonderful welcome home. Suspect FiL had a not very quiet word with his son about priorities and he's realised how poorly you've been.
Lots of rest and enjoy those cuddles with the children. Hopefully you'll be much better and able to enjoy the last couple of weeks before they go back to school.

Driftingawaynow · 10/08/2025 14:44

I’ve been really enjoying following this thread, cheering with you every time the abscess has popped! I also had breast cancer surgery on Monday and the ward was also utterly lovely and calm, staff just amazing. Nice to know it wasn’t just the one I was in

Helpagirlyout · 10/08/2025 14:58

Thank you for keeping us posted, glad you're on the mend OP!
What a lovely family you have, you are clearly very loved 🥰

Givemebackmygirlhood · 10/08/2025 15:34

I am so glad you are feeling better and back at home with your lovely family. I had an infection internally and my journey mirrored yours (including an amazing medical team) so I felt very emotional reading about it. Very best wishes and make sure you rest up lots now you are home 💐

Pearl69 · 10/08/2025 15:57

Glad you are on the mend OP. Your family are so lovely and your DH came through for you in the end. Hope theres much less drama this week and you continue to recover. Take it easy.

DarkSuitsSadSongs · 10/08/2025 16:02

Oh god will the draining never stop...

How much fluid can there possibly be left 😄

I'm fully expecting a massive loss on the scales this week judging by how much gunk there is 😄

OP posts:
Sortalike · 10/08/2025 16:16

How lovely for you to be back home 😊

The wound will eventually stop draining - although it does make you wonder where it all comes from.

I had something similar, and the nurses wanted the wound to heal from the inside out, so it might leave a funny scar. Keep taking the pain killers and antibiotics and take it easy.
