Currently looking at the dualit 4 slice but some of the reviews arent great - any other recommendations? Budget about £250.
Don't want a plastic toaster. Looking for a classic chic look.

We have just bought a dualit. Kids took a while to get the hang of it but it’s fine now. I was so excited about the sandwich toasting option. I bought the little cage. Only thing I don’t like is how often you have to wipe them they kettle as well ger smeared every day.

Got a 4 slice dualit as a wedding gift.
Oh, that was my first marriage 30 years ago 😄
Still going. Buy the cages.

Valid8me · 07/08/2025 13:39

Sorry OP, I have no recomendations, I am just astounded that will people pay £250 to toast a few bits of bread!! In fact I didn't even know that they made toasters that cost so much!

Wibble128 · 07/08/2025 13:39

Dualoit, every time. Spare parts available, so is an investment not just use and throw. Ours now over 30 years old. repaired one the other day for a couple that bought one damaged the timer put it in the roof and bought two others in the interim, both of which died. Cost of part £16.50

Quality. Longevity. Can replace elements.

Mydahliasareshit · 07/08/2025 13:42

The cages hold your toastie together. And help you pull out thicker things that might stick.

I'm terrible with toasters but have had my Dualit for 6 years, a record in our house! Only a two slice, but defo worth the money and I'd get another.

JDM625 · 07/08/2025 13:52

We have a sage brand. Not this exact model, but very similar with 4 slots and motorised function. It was pricy for a toaster at the time, but was the only one I could find which could fit wider things like muffins/bagels, had a fruit bread option, frozen options etc. We bought ours at least 7yrs ago and still going strong. Its just DH and myself though. They also have a model for longer pieces of bread too.

I have had a 4 slice Dualit for nearly 30 years, it has never let us down and still looks great. I’m just about to give it its weekly clean with a Brasso polish afterwards. They have not gone up much as mine cost £200

BarnacleBeasley · 07/08/2025 13:58

I've got a Dualit 2-slice that I've had for at least 15 years. The timer has started sticking a bit so I've bought a new one and am going to have a go at replacing it. They are expensive but they last a really long time, and they are great for toasting non-standard breads as the slots are nice and wide.

Jellycatspyjamas · 07/08/2025 14:01

I’ve had a two slice Dualit for 20+ years, no problems and works perfectly.

It is fine, I'm not judging - just more shocked that you can actually get toasters that cost so much and people obviously buy them otherwise they wouldn't make them!

My dualit is about 35 years old and still going strong.

It does sound like a lot but I’ve spent £30/40 on a toaster only for it to break and not be repairable. The beauty of the Dualit one is that parts are replaceable and easy to come by but yes, it is expensive.

Papyrophile · 07/08/2025 15:45

Our Dualit toaster was bought in 1988, so it's almost 37 years old.

I mean I've bought a new timer, not a new toaster!

We've got a SMEG - it wasn't cheap but has lasted 6 years ... and still going strong. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Smeg-TSF02SSUK-Polished-Stainless-Toaster/dp/B01C8PJ1EK?th=1

HundredMilesAnHour · 07/08/2025 16:06

My Dualit is 31 years old and still going strong. Never needed a repair.

Chasingsquirrels · 07/08/2025 17:28

My DP has just moved in and brought his 4 slice Dualit toaster with him.
I don't like it, it is bulky & takes up way more counter space than my old 2-slot, 4-slice toaster which cost £10 about 5 years ago.
It also shows the smears, and doesn't even pop up when it is finished.
Really not impressed, and if they cost that much my "lack of impression" has gone up several-fold.

We've had a 4 slice Dualit plus baskets (great for things like crumpets as well as toasties) for about 25 years amd love it. It doesn't get smeary, we only really touch the knobs. I like that it doesn't pop up.
