Awake and changed my username for this one and sounds crazy.

Ok so couple of odd things happening lately in my house. At home alone until the weekend and it will be a long few nights.

I’m awake if you still need someone.

awakeandasleep · 06/08/2025 02:09

Thanks. I went to unplug the alexa but it was unplugged but on my app it was playing music in that room.

OP posts:
awakeandasleep · 06/08/2025 02:10

I am not kidding put I can hear creaking in my bedroom, living room is beneath. I am not going to get through the night.

EasternEcho · 06/08/2025 02:10

The thing with Alexa, could that be just a tech glitch?

Yes but that has never happened in the middle of the night before. I have never been on my own in the house before always DC or DH here.

awakeandasleep · 06/08/2025 02:13

Actually not sure if noise coming from the dining room.

OP posts:
awakeandasleep · 06/08/2025 02:14

What can I watch that is funny or absorbing. I need to get up early tomorrow too.

OP posts:
EasternEcho · 06/08/2025 02:14

I know it must be freaky. But buildings do tend to creak at nights due to temperature fluctuations. It will be ok.

awakeandasleep · 06/08/2025 02:18

Yes I know, thank you. I need to calm down. I am watching Destination X quite good really.

OP posts:
awakeandasleep · 06/08/2025 02:19

Has anyone else had an alexa wake them up with music in the middle of the night?

Having no documented proof doesn't make something a fact. Lack of evidence is not the same as evidence of absence. There was a time there was no documented proof that the earth was not flat either. Didn't make it a fact. Science hasn't proven it one way or the other yet. I personally don't believe in ghosts, but I can't claim that as a fact. It's a subjective belief at this point.

OP I am wide awake, if that helps.

Science, or indeed anybody doesn’t need to prove something doesn’t exist, only that it does. It’s a fact that until now ( 2025 ) there is no evidence/proof whatsoever to support the existence of ghosts, or indeed anything at all in the “ paranormal”

awakeandasleep · 06/08/2025 02:22

The only explanation I can think of is that one of my family are listening to music linked to my amazon account and it has come through the alexa in my bedroom.

You sound ignorant. It doesn't work that way. In science if you make an assertion that something doesn't exist, that requires proof too. By your theory, there was never any need to prove that the sun didn't revolve around the earth. It makes no sense.

Chasingcrazypaving · 06/08/2025 02:28

Lights on. If you've never stayed alone it is probably nerves. Sending handholds

DressingGown · 06/08/2025 02:30

I'm forever listening to Spotify in the car only for my daughter to change the music by playing something in the house. It's entirely possible for these apps to play music on the "wrong" speaker. Almost daily occurrence in my family

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 06/08/2025 02:30

Correct, and this is handy because there is no need to present non-existence of ghosts as a fact, because sceptics are not making any sort of extraordinary claim, on the contrary.

The claim being made is that ghosts exist. This is the "fact" in dispute. The onus lies with people making an extraordinary claim, purporting something to be a fact, to produce some sort of extraordinary evidence suggesting there is some truth to this fact, and as of yet they've been singularly unable to do so, therefore the only rational conclusion you can reach is that the "fact" is false, and there is no such thing as a "ghost".

DressingGown · 06/08/2025 02:31

My smart speaker also has a habit of randomly saying things in the middle of the night. I have learnt to turn it off. (Stops it listening to everything too...) Grin

What a load of completely risible nonsense.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russell%27s_teapot

Articulates precisely why it's so ridiculous for people who proclaim the existence of ghosts etc to then turn around and demand that sceptics provide "proof" that their claim is false.

Not necessarily. I don't believe OP or anyone else is claiming in this thread that ghosts are a fact. Simply that some believe in them and some don't. Some attribute it to something otherwordly in the absence of a rational explanation. However, if someone is making an assertion to the contrary, that should also have some evidence. Anyone making a claim either way should present evidence. Not just the one asserting that there are ghosts. It's all subjective beliefs at this stage. There was a time when those claiming the existence of micro-organisms like bacteria causing diseases were laughed at, without presenting any evidence to back their dismissal, and their rational was similar to yours. Because it was not possible to prove their existence either at that particular time.

@XDownwiththissortofthingX .

Thanks I will read that when I am more awake.
