BBC news - cat torture

Craftysue · 04/08/2025 14:04

Anyone else watch the news at one?
An absolutely sickening report on people filming kittens being tortured to death and the videos streamed worldwide? Apparently catching on in this country!! I'm not the biggest cat fan but this turned my stomach. Two teenagers are due to be sentenced after pleading guilty to torturing and killing two kittens in London. Absolutely horrific

No , it needs to be shown.

Why? Those of us who don't enjoy torturing cats will continue to not torture cats. Those of us who enjoy it will continue to find ways to do it.

Just makes me hope an asteroid wipes us all out. The human race needs finishing now.

Why do people say stupid crap like this? It’s cringe inducing. I’ve never tortured anything in my life, so I’m not sure why me, my children and everyone I love should be wiped off the planet just because some people are vile.

I unfortunately saw it on the TV screen at the gym. I otherwise would have been blissfully unaware. There are some very sick people out there.
The monkey torture case which another poster has referenced was devastating to read about.

I made the mistake of reading about that one at work and I cried

Sux2buthen · 04/08/2025 16:51

Exactly @Aquabluemouse
there are shitty people of course but there are also good people. Posters claiming that the human race which includes my lovely children needs to be wiped out are pathetic.

Why should it be kept out of the news - should we not know that this sort of thing happens, in the vain hope that it could lead to prosecutions?

Copycats, and giving some sick individuals new ideas.

Copycats, and giving some sick individuals new ideas.

They'd find it anyway

ReleaseTheDucksOfWar · 04/08/2025 18:00

If they knew to look for it. Unfortunately once one pattern of behaviour surfaces, some people who didn't know about it before will then adopt it.

If nothing else, this highlights why its such an idiotic thing to do to give pets, especially kittens, away for free on Facebook etc.

I had to turn to Chat GPT for some reassurance. It gave me this response which made me feel marginally better. Completely agree with PP though. It just makes me despair for humanity and the state of the world we live in.

Unfortunately I don't take get any reassurance from ChatGPT when the charity responsible for highlighting this horrific story has stated:

"Data gathered by Feline Guardians showed a 500% increase in new torture videos added to the Chinese Telegram groups they monitor between June 2024 and February 2025 – with a new video being uploaded on average around every 2.5 hours. In the first two months of this year, more than 500 new torture videos have been uploaded, with most coming from previously unknown abusers."

It absolutely does need bringing to the attention of the public so that pressure can be put on the relevant authorities but I agree the story needed a stronger warning before it was broadcast.

I completely agree that this kind of cruelty needs to be exposed so that action can be taken. It’s horrifying and deeply upsetting, and it’s right that people are talking about it and calling for change.

I’ve felt terrible about it all day. I have to hold onto the belief that there is more good than bad in the world. It doesn’t make the horror any less real, but it helps me not to lose hope entirely.

I would kill anyone I saw torturing a cat and feel no remorse at all.

Goody2ShoesAndTheFilthyBeast · 04/08/2025 18:07

Yes, i have heard that it was on the news.

Fucking psychopaths.

How could the parents of the 2 teens accept this? Unless they are of the same mind. I could never look at my dc again if they abused animals or humans in such a way

PInkyStarfish · 04/08/2025 18:11

A few years ago they uncovered a website where you could pay women wearing high stiletto shoes to crush kittens with the heels.

I remember thinking that can’t be true, it’s just some hideous made up story, but no it was true.

Belladog1 · 04/08/2025 18:20

I saw it on BBC Breakfast this morning. I was eating my toast and it made me feel sick. That poor cat shaking like a leaf. Absolutely dreadful.

I'd never heard about this and these sick websites. My only worry is that sick fucks could watch the news and seek the websites out/ join in. I'm sure the website views have got more traction thanks to it being televised.

The joy of the internet where anything and everything can be uploaded/viewed and monetised.

Agreed nothing is off limit with a few clicks and a credit card.
Sick fuckers!!

I have just seen this on the six o’clock news and it really has upset me. I despair at the depravity of some people. Was there also a study some while ago showing that this sort of behaviour can be a gateway to violence against humans?

Ian Brady tortured cats in his youth.

In every true life documentary I've seen, they've always said that animal torture is a gateway. These pricks escalate to get the same thrill .... so target people.

Whatwhat123 · 04/08/2025 19:19

I saw this on the news at 6 and it’s really upset me. Upsets me more that there’s nothing much I can do to help. Went on the feline guardians website and there’s a list of Chinese ambassadors to email so I might at least do that.

I think they should report on this to raise awareness obviously, but I feel the videos on the bbc were too graphic. I really didn’t want to see cats crying and been strangled with no warning that it could be distressing. I can’t get it out of my head now.

Fatfreefatball · 04/08/2025 19:36

There are prisons in America where inmates are allowed to own homeless cats to care for. It would be great if we could put these sick fucks in those prisons and let the lifers deal with them. 'Humans' like this add nothing to the planet. This has upset me all day.

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 04/08/2025 19:45

Absolute evil and future serial killers.

Allthatwegotisthispalebluedot · 04/08/2025 19:46

This has really played on my mind all day. I am an animal lover, a total cat lady, and I have OCD. My intrusive thoughts have been off the scale all day after accidentally reading this on the bbc news app this morning and then it popping up on my Instagram feed without warning. I tried to close the story both times quickly, but it has still absolutely wrecked my head all day.

I feel slightly reassured that some of you here are in the same boat so I don’t feel too crazy❤️

notanothersummercold · 04/08/2025 20:00

I had to turn the 6pm news off because of this story. Evil scumbags

Sincere sympathies to you as a fellow animal lover who also has OCD and intrusive thoughts. I tried not to read any of the detail but the BBC headline alone was unnecessarily graphic.

I haven’t even been able to enjoy cute pics of cats today as I usually do because this is all that I can think of when I see them.

I hope that your intrusive thoughts ease soon.

I couldn't read about the monkey case and won't read about this one. It would upset me too much. I have 2 cats of my own that mean the world to me so cat related things especially are upsetting to me.

I remember once years ago reading about people who get off on women in stilettos standing on small animals. I despair of the human race to be honest. It's all very well saying these things are rare but there's clearly enough of a "market" that these things are happening. No one would make these videos for just one or two people. So it's really not rare is it.

Agree with this. It’s clearly not the majority of people, but it is a significant number. I realised this when I read about Adam Britton (well-known British zoologist who had worked for the BBC) being convicted of torture and sexual abuse of animals (mostly dogs I think). He shared these videos with others online and it sounded like there were quite a few involved- not just two or three freaks, but a network of interested parties. Most of the dogs he abused in his torture room died.

It frightens me that there are people in the world who get a sexual kick or a high out of abusing and torturing animals (and humans of course for that matter).

As for the ‘send the asteroid’ comment that has upset a few… try not to take it personally, it’s a phrase that’s fairly commonly used and doesn’t necessarily need to be taken literally.

I have two lovely children, and a lovely husband. I’ve never committed a crime or hurt a human or an animal. But I still think the human race is parasitic and incredibly destructive and the planet would be much better off if we weren’t here.
