Warm, mild and sunny here in Kent today
versus
Torrential rain and storm warnings up north

We just having a day in the garden and then going to meet friend for picnic in her garden.

What the heck are you doing if house of children and storms ongoing. In summer fgs! My sympathies!

NE Scotland here. We are very rural and high up and exposed. Worst damage to our trees we have ever had, can only assume because normally storms hit in autumn and right now, they are in full
leaf.
Many roads closed due to fallen trees.
It’s not rained much, mostly very sunny. Most areas around us have power cuts, so far we’ve managed to stay on.

Yes, high winds when the trees are in full leaf is a bad combination. In one of the storms earlier in the year we weren’t in the worst of the wind but sadly one of the small number of fatalities was quite nearby on a road we frequently use when a tree came down on a van.Sad

I’m not far from London…not sure what that poster going on about!

I have just got into work incentral London. It’s sunny and not freezing at all although there is an annoying breeze.

Just realised that I am a complete day out from when this thread started. Ignore me!

NW England. Still blowing a hooley up here as well as our default grey/overcast, and forecast to last another 24 hours. I’m bored of it now.

Tarkan · 05/08/2025 07:59

What a difference 24 hours can make. NE Scotland and it’s a lovely morning here now. Died down around 10/11 last night although there was a bit more rain overnight too. Happily heading out without a coat today.

NE Scotland. Went out early to check the damage to my veg patch and only the potatoes are ok. Half the plums are on the ground and my hanging baskets look as if they've been in a sand storm. At least my chimney's ok.

BitOutOfPractice · 05/08/2025 09:43

Goodness it sounds like it was really bad in Scotland. Hope you can rescue some plants @thatsnothtepoint !

It's been worse where I live (Cumbria) today than yesterday, even though the storm has supposedly passed. It has been absolutely hammering it down all day so far, though just clearing now. Mind you, we need some rain, I drove by Thirlmere a couple of days ago and it was really low, so it's maybe a good thing.

I'm better off than my NDN. A large branch broke off a tree in his front garden and damaged his garage roof. My front garden looks like a bunch of beavers were at work yesterday; it's littered with smaller branches and leaves. Several local roads were closed because of fallen trees.

Anicemorning · 05/08/2025 14:47

I’m a soft southerner and proud of it! It was very mild yesterday and a bit overcast

today…. My garden bathed in sun, a light breeze and I’m wearing a t shirt

I couldn’t hack it up north! Pathetic really!

Was awful last night. Had some tiles come off the roof, leaking from that, lost a fence. Luckily didn’t lose power, the road next to mine has had power off for nearly 24 hours now and the ssen map doesn’t show an eta and no engineer on route yet.
