Torrential rain and storm warnings up north

We just having a day in the garden and then going to meet friend for picnic in her garden.

What the heck are you doing if house of children and storms ongoing. In summer fgs! My sympathies!

RIP our food bin. DD went to check and went right up the road. It’s gone. TV is cutting out now. Joys.

Never mind. DH grabbed it after it had been emptied and hid it inside the recycling bin so it didn’t blow away. Phew! We’ve been catsitting for friends so just need to hope their bin is safe too now as I put it out last night.

DD has been watching our neighbours try to secure their shed and trampoline though and we’ve had to retrieve the cover for our barbecue and a couple of our chairs so far. DH and DD have bungee roped our bins to our wall to hopefully stop them blowing all around the driveway and front garden.

DH says the Tay Bridge and Edinburgh Zoo are both closed now.

It’s a weird one though, it’s so bright and sunny outside (compared to the huge amount of rain we had in the early hours when the dog wanted out) but the wind is crazy.

We haven’t long had our skylight fixed after one of the previous storms blew it off so hopefully the fix is nice and secure as this is the first test for it. 🙈

Still really gusty here in Yorkshire, I’m facing the Pennines. There are some tree branches down in the garden, loads of leaves, pots blown over and lots of damaged plants.
Had torrential rain this morning but the sun is shining now and it’s really warm in the house. Too windy to open the windows
Our dogs hate the wind so don’t want to go out

I’m not far from London…not sure what that poster going on about!

I am in Berkshire so not far from London either and it has been on/off raining (more like drizzle) for a few hours and it is very windy. Temperature is supposed to be around 20 but feels cooler due to the wind. Looking at the current forecast, it is supposed to be sunny right now but has been cloudy all day.

In Scotland here! We’ve only had one day of this horrible wind otherwise our summer has been great so far. Today I almost got hit by a flying bin so staying inside with movies for safety!!

A bit blowy here in Fife but nothing out of the ordinary so far. Was supposed to be going to the Edinburgh Tattoo tonight but its been cancelled.

I’m in Edinburgh, it’s sunny, warm but one place I wouldn’t want to be tonight is on the seats on castle esplanade. Some of these gusts are wild.

Will you be going abroad next year for your holiday @Thisismyalterego ?!

Definitely not! I really don't do well in the heat and actually, the storm doesn't worry me at all, apart from the obvious dangers to anyone who is out in it. This is our first holiday for a few years and we've had glorious weather so far, so this one day is definitely not spoiling it. Our lovely DIL who organised everything, warned us to pack for ' all four seasons in one day', was absolutely right. Much more interesting than knowing every day is going to be the same weather wise! We are having a huge family holiday and this is just adding to our experience.

AvidJadeShaker · 04/08/2025 15:34

West Sussex, windy, fine rain and generally shitey.

I wonder how the younger folk feel cooped up inside when they could be sprawled by Villa pool in France!

South Lincs here. Very wet this morning but dry now and extremely windy. The washing is drying beautifully on the line but it was a fight to get it on there.

I’m in London. It’s freezing, windy and is threatening to chuck it down

I’m in outer SW London. Not cold, but thick white cloud, a bit windy, and a little rain earlier.
It’s been like this for a few days - sun has been coming out late afternoon/early evening.

Waitingfordoggo · 04/08/2025 15:40

I’m on the south coast and it’s not great here. Still warm but very windy and grey with intermittent showers.

I’m in Kent. It’s overcast, cold & windy.

im wearing jeans & a jumper.

Same here. I have put the dehumidifier on as it feels damp. I'm usually happier when it's not too hot, but come on August, I expect better from you.

Howyoualldoworkme · 04/08/2025 15:46

Blooming horrible in Hampshire. Wind and rain but sort of muggy as well!

BitOutOfPractice · 04/08/2025 15:52

23° here in Essex but it’s dark, grey, blustery and damp. I’m just in from work and putting my cosies on!

maddiemookins16mum · 04/08/2025 15:52

I’m in Kent and have all my doors closed and my best cardigan on keeping warm!

No idea what @Pearldroop is on about. Camping in the New Forest and it's been blowing a gale all day, mostly with rain. Looks like the whole of the west and central South has been the same!

Toddlerteaplease · 04/08/2025 15:59

staying in Cumbria with my parents, nothing awful this morning. Currently sunny and warm in Hexham.

I swear to you that whilst overcast and breezy here… I’m in a T-shirt and kitchen doors wide open. I promise!!

Well, as this holiday was their idea and in fact, was their gift to us, I am pretty certain they are all absolutely fine. In fact, this is the fourth year that one of the dcs and Dils have been up here. None of us have ever been 'sitting round a pool' people and have never had that type of holiday. The other DC and Dil tend to visit Cornwall for their holidays. And the house they have rented for us all is plenty big enough for us to be able to spread out and not get on top of each other.

We’ve had rain on and off (spitting) but not eat outside weather.

StanfreyPock · 04/08/2025 16:10

In Edinburgh, weirdly warm and sunny but blowing a hooley. On way back from local pool saw a Deliveroo cyclist get blown over. Yes, wouldn't fancy perching up on the Castle Esplanade tonight, not that the Tattoo is my cup of tea anyway.

I'm glad it's your best cardigan @maddiemookins16mum, it's important to keep up one's standards. 😁

I’m in Newcastle. It’s warm and bright, no rain but it’s very windy.

Dontcallmescarface · 04/08/2025 16:39

I'm in North Somerset. It was wet and windy this morning but very humid, lovely now.

Chipsahoy · 04/08/2025 16:42

NE Scotland here. We are very rural and high up and exposed. Worst damage to our trees we have ever had, can only assume because normally storms hit in autumn and right now, they are in full
leaf.
Many roads closed due to fallen trees.
It’s not rained much, mostly very sunny. Most areas around us have power cuts, so far we’ve managed to stay on.
