DH and DD's luggage arrived, but mine didn't. I bought new hiking boots, new swimsuits (never leave the house usually and this confirms I was right). Also contained all the toiletries, towels, some medication that's liquid so I didn't want to risk it, along with jewellery

I know "travel insurance" , but it doesn't help when you arrive in a cold country with nothing.

It was Easyjet and I wasn't the only one on the flight who had luggage missing - but they dont fly here for another 3-4 days, so not a lot of hope.

They have 2 shops in all of Iceland 😁 I suspect they used the franchise name to lure the British tourists in.

Mum’s gone to Iceland.

As you can see it's made a difference to them.

TizerorFizz · 06/08/2025 21:12

Did Icelandair lose it or was it never put in the hold by the baggage handlers?

Roothewheel · 07/08/2025 06:58

i imagine your family were a bit 🤔 at the OP being glued to her phone on Mumsnet during all this!

OP, you suffer from anxiety generally don’t you?

TizerorFizz · 07/08/2025 09:36

@Anonymousemouses I hope the weather is good. We had glorious weather in early July but the whole summer before then had been wet and cloudy. Have a good time.

Yep I do, really bad. I have bipolar and PDs, I find change very difficult, so holidays are always stressful, i hate unexpected things happening too, so losing luggage sent me into a meltdown. I'm actually waiting to go on a special programme and the psychiatrist thinks they may change my diagnosis, not sure to what.

Nobody has minded me being in the phone as DH has been driving whilst I am and DS is on her phone in the back, or I've updated in our cabin.

Thank you. Its been rainy last few days, nice in Monday and forecast is better from now.

It was EasyJet and I don't think they loaded my case, as it went from Milan then from there ti Keflavik the next day.

I have to say Op, I’m not surprised to read this at all.

I hope rest of holiday is much improved

DH and I are at breaking point.

does he too suffer from severe anxiety?

No, he's very laid back, so gets frustrated with me. Its been really good since Monday though, even managed to enjoy myself before I knew my case was found.

The only frustration I have now, is learning to cope with reduced mobility. We did the lava tunnels and I thought it'd be fine, but my fusion meant my ankle couldnt adjust to climbing over rocks. I managed Cheddar Gorge on two crutches, so thought it'd be the same.

Just on way back from Seljalandsfoss waterfall, and it didn't even try to walk behind it. DH said id never have made it and DD even had a nervous moment, as the rocks were slippery.

You described both you and him as at “breaking point”

OP you have a young teen alone with you both. I know it’s hard but for her sake, something needs to change re when there’s a low level crisis in the family. No judgement but I grew up with parents who just fell to pieces when the shit hit the fan. It makes a bad situation just awful, and I at least had my siblings to mess around, joke around with whilst parents at “breaking point”

Not only that the shit hadnt hit the fan and there wasnt even a low level crisis.

It was one delayed suitcase. It was clothes and toiletries. There are plenty of shops and hire places in Reykjavik for clothes and boots but as you correctly the OP said both were at breaking point and I recall the OP was up at 4am crying and saying she wanted to go home as she just wanted her suitcase and the whole holiday was spoilt she said.

Their poor daughter having to deal with such utter histrionics over nothing from both her parents.

Anonymousemouses · 07/08/2025 15:58

@Roothewheel you're quite right I did say that. I was being a bit dramatic, as he was asleep. I .want i was angry that he was calm about my case being missing, but i was convinced it was gone forever.

I'm waiting to join a special programme to help me manage my emotions, so hopefully that will help.

I completely agree

but given the OP’s extensive and severe mental health issues - I didn’t quite put it like that!

And your DH needs to be able to deal with his frustration with you better.

Otherwise Op, it’s your young teen that is going to emerge from all this quite damaged

Roothewheel · 07/08/2025 16:06

Who was the driving force behind this holiday?

An adventurous hiking holiday given you are physically disabled, don’t leave the house unless strictly necessary and suffer from severe mental health issues - seems unwise

It's on the first page - their daughter and a previous geography trip was why they came.

Ok so despite saying that he was at “breaking point” and he gets very frustrated with you.

Now he was “very calm”

OP, he is married to someone with a serious physically disabilities and severe mental health issues. He needs support himself to manage these times of stress because there will be more and your DD can’t be subjected to this

Enough with your bogus analysis.

OP understandably was pissed off at not having her luggage in what is quite an inhospitable place, even in summer. Most of us would be which is reflected in the responses. And OP has updated that she had a lovely day after her stuff was found while adding some beautiful images.

Continue having a great time OP.

YMMV
Icelandair lost my pushchair on the outbound journey only to then lose the replacement I bought somehow during the return trip!
I was travelling with 3 children. FUN!

I'll never forgive them😡

Christ, once was bad enough but twice is a joke!

I'm assuming they weren't exactly helpful in either instance? OP had great advice on dealing with Easyjet.
