How does this make Brits feel about Prince Harry?

Does it melt the hearts of the British when they recall Prince Harry's 'Mummy' letter at Diana's funeral?
Does this make them think twice about treating him and Meghan without more sympathy?

Have you ever lost a parent? The week my Dad died, I had trouble showering without sobbing. If anyone had expected me to travel the length of the country signing charters I would have thrown a wobbler that could be heard in space.

but you were not the King, making your assertion irrelevant

It's not just people on this thread that annoy me saying prince harry is young. It's all over the place, in papers, the media, he is always shown to be a young man, One of Diana's boys. That finished decades ago. He is not a young man and should have grown up since then. But it appears he has not, still playing victim and playing off the fact that he is young. He is not

I’m in agreement as per my original comment. Trying to appease the outrage that followed was my mistake as well as not checking M&Hs ages, I thought they were still 30 something (possibly owing to their lack of maturity and judgement) which I regard as youngish. Age and references to generational trends does seem to get Mumsnet one angry poster riled! I won’t bother next time!

I wasn't having a go at you.

I thought I was joining a discussion FFS an making a valid point in agreement adding to the discussion.

I wish I hadn't bothered either - so many arseholes spoiling for a fight over frankly nothing -even if you are agreeing with them - makes the whole site less enjoyable.

I think the reason people get irked about them being described as young is because it implies inexperience and naivete, and potentially absolves them from responsibility for all the awful things they've said and done.

Describing them as middle aged is a bit premature, less so for her than for him, but what neither of them is, is young.

He was a bit of a loveable rogue before he met Meghan. From that moment on it all went downhill. I think Meghan thought she was far more important than she actually was, but she married the "spare" so she was way down the pecking order. The Oprah interview was a catastrophe and so embarrassing, and Harry's whinging about just being the "spare" , well he has known that since he could talk, I dont know why he whinged so much about it, he will have far more freedom to live his life as he wishes, unlike William, whose life was mapped out as he took his first breath.
They could have been great as the "Fab Four" but the bottom line is that Meghan was jealous of Kate and wanted to be her IMHO

I think he was a "loveable rogue" because he was protected to a degree we only saw what they wanted us to see, he married and didn't want the life anymore so wanted half in half out in Canada who told him to get on his bike so he/they moved to America, .he orchestrated that he wanted a different life with his wife, I mean she is as twatty as he is but don't say. Poor Harry the loveable rogue has been corrupted !

Yes, I think it's fairly obvious in retrospect that he had the benefit of some very good PR and branding work.

But it does become harder to pull that off as you get older, without wishing to restart the thankfully now finished discussion about age terminology. I think some of the anecdotes in Spare might've gone down quite differently if he'd come out with them when he was 28 instead of 38. The ones about his cock, basically.

Browniesforbreakfast · 04/08/2025 17:41

but she married the "spare"

She didn’t though. He was no longer the “spare” when they married - he had been knocked another couple of places down the line of succession by then.

UpDo · 04/08/2025 18:10

I wonder why he's denying having twatted Prince Andrew. Would have thought that would be a pretty popular thing to do!

Lighteningstrikes · 04/08/2025 18:18

No.
It doesn’t give him an excuse to be an entitled rich brat traitor.
I think his dysfunctional wife pulls his strings.

One day hopefully he’ll wake up, but he’s caused a lot of unforgivable damage.

Do I empathise with someone who's parent died at a very young age - yes of course

Can I understand how painful it was and still is for him to have his mother trashed in the press, the hurt and anger felt towards the press given the circumstances of his mothers death and the on going often underhand racist treatment towards his wife - yes of course

Can I understand his pain and confusion that his father did not protect him as a grieving child and he was packed off to boarding school after carrying out his royal duties at his own others funeral to please the public - I think you have to be extremely cold to not understand how negatively this has impacted him

Do I understand his anger and hurt towards how the royal family and those that ride on their coat tails - absolutely they have the best pr constantly informing the press of his mothers so called wrongdoings and now his wife and himself

Do I think he has always handled it the best way, probably not but I do not think anyone comes out involved looking good

Excellent post! Very well said. I could not agree more.

@HRTQueen 100 % and don't forget dianas rock Paul barrel who is still taunting both boys and stole from her after her death.
What was the famous line ? How many items did he take ? A warehouse full sir.

The queen had to intervene and says they were gifts.

When a parent dies young you try and find comfort and solace in the death .there is no solace here ,fayed dragged out inquests , horrid lurid claims she was pregnant , she died a violent horrid death , and a pretty pointless one also a combination of no seat belt and drink driver and press.

Remove any leg and she would probably still be alive.

And before that he had to endure one of the worlds worst ever cheating situations and it was mum not dad who was the young innocent party there .

NewGirlInTown · 12/09/2025 07:38

No. He’s a wanker.
His wife is a grifting, lying, con artist.

WaryCrow · 12/09/2025 08:21

Couldn’t care less about the Royals. There are thousands, tens of thousands, of people up and down this country coping with bereavement at any one time and all of them will most likely have to go back to work at some point and carry on. Those ordinary people get my sympathy. They are not all excessively privileged and most will not be greedy entitled fuckers.

Anne has been a spare all her life. She's managed to have a sporting career and find positive projects and charities to become involved with.
Harry's made his own choices.

Very good point.
