A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. Labour isn't working!

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

They will just deny it! Call it far right whipping up hate, wouldn't be surprised if arrests were made.
It really is feeling more and more like 1984

Agree, Orwellian Labour

ThePhantomoftheEcobubbleOpera · 15/08/2025 15:48

Bit of a tinderbox verdict, delivered on a Friday during a heatwave. Good job it's not all kicking off on twitter...

TheNuthatch · 15/08/2025 15:50

Yes. Glorious weather this weekend 😬

Greens beat Labour in South Jesmond bi-election with Liberals coming 2nd. A very left leaning area and I think RR was up there yesterday to support Labour 🤣

Seems as helpful as when Nandy came to Sunderland.

Ooo Greens also won Cardiff so that's another one lost for Labour

Ricky Jones has been found not guilty of encouraging violent disorder 🤯.

I didn't actually think the 2 tier justice was quite that blatant. But it is.

I'm actually really, really shocked and upset by this. We've seen lots of 2-tier police and government behaviour, but it felt like bias and leeway rather than fundamentally not applying laws. This has genuinely shaken a fairly fundamental belief I had in our system - that laws apply to everyone and protect everyone.

A tweet - not to anyone on particular - saying 'set fire to all the... hotels.. for all I care" (ie not actually telling people to do it, just that she doesn't care if they do) gets 3 years prison.

But standing up in front of a crowd saying 'We need to cut all their throats and get rid of them all.' whilst making a throat slitting motion gets.. nothing...

Because of who it is the threat is made against, and whether public opinion thinks they are worthy of protection.

This is so incredibly not OK.

Arrearing50 · 15/08/2025 16:37

I do agree that this was a far more serious breach than what Lucy did - she got held up as an example and got terrible advice not to take it to trial.

What’s that quote something like not only must justice be done it must be seen to be done.

Comparing the actions and outcomes for two people doesn’t show that.

Yes, that's an absolutely foundational to a justice system. A universal belief that it's fair is what makes people willing to hand over their grievances to the justice system instead of taking justice into their own hands.

Jenrick on manoeuvres

With a not untimely topic.

@ThePhantomoftheEcobubbleOpera Thanks.

Cometh the hour? Sadly, I do think Kemi's days are numbered now.

Both Tories and Reform will make hay with this verdict, rightly so.

Not sad at all if Badenoch's days are numbered.
Every cloud...

ThePhantomoftheEcobubbleOpera · 15/08/2025 18:22

It's last chance saloon, if she doesn't come out swinging when parliament reopens then it that will be the end of her run.

Farage and Philp have already made comment on the disparity in the process and outcome compared to Connelly's case.

EasternStandard · 15/08/2025 18:32

I like Kemi but the odds are against her. If they do switch then ok. I’m not that fussed, as long as Labour keep receding.

ThePhantomoftheEcobubbleOpera · 15/08/2025 18:35

I like Badenoch, I just think it was too premature in her career and crap timing. It was a horrible hand to play.

It's given the party some time to decide whether there is a genuine and sustained appetite for a righter leaning Tory party, and I think the pr is leaning that way, and her successor can start with a fresh slate. They'd be fools not to use the autumn budget as a launch pad for that.

TheNuthatch · 15/08/2025 18:35

Cleverly has commented on today too, but I'd put money on Jenrick taking over now. George Osborne appears to be quietly backing Jenrick now too, which is a shift.

So this Labour councillor, who was caught on video, calling for people’s throat to be slit, inciting hatred and violence, has got off. He had a jury trial notoriously unreliable.

His behaviour is on video. He should’ve been sacked by Labour. But of course he wasn’t. Labour hate women, he’s lucky he’s a man.

It reminds me of the male violence inciting creeps ‘campaigning’ against sex realist women. Calling for them to be burnt / hanged / raped / killed in some way. The only good Terf is a dead Terf etc. But no arrests, no nothing. Why? It’s on camera.

Stinks. As usual.

ThatbloodyRoblox · 15/08/2025 21:27

The charge against Lucy Connolly was more similar to that of Mark Heath than Ricky Jones. She pleaded guilty, he ( Mark Heath) didnt. He was cleared by jury. Was that two tier? I never heard any complaints at the time.
