A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. Labour isn't working!

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

When they came into power they went on and on about inheriting a £22bn black hole in the country’s finances that they say the Conservatives left behind. Now I keep reading that this black hole has grown to £50bn. How has that happened? Are they blaming the Tories for that as well?

Of course. The standard accusation is either Tories or Reform isn't it?

Maybe Bridge shouldn't have stopped the Eton Academy from going ahead in a hugely deprived area....!

Did she stop this entirely??

Unbelievable

Eton College. A photograph of the redbrick school taken from across the road. A large archway is shown leading into the building on the right. Smartly dressed people are standing in a yard outside the adjacent building.

Eton College sixth-form plan review welcomed by Middlesbrough MP - BBC News

Eton College plans to build three sixth form colleges but the government is now reviewing the plans.

Yep she kiboshed it. No longer happening.

That would’ve been a lifeline for so many children.

So they’re not improving state schools at all in any way. They’ve increased numbers, added sponsorship of breakfast food at the few places that have the capacity to serve it, messing about with a curriculum to make changes no one wants, taken away school labels so no one really knows how they’re performing (this is an ideal Labour Party situation), what have I missed? Race to the bottom.

They make me feel sick.

Yep pretty much hit the nail on the head. The biggest thing you've missed though is the Schools Bill which includes limiting EHCPs whilst at same time severely limiting parental ability to appeal and complain.

That’s also unbelievable. EHCPs are hard enough to get today by all accounts. In fact from what I’ve seen the whole process is lengthy and traumatic as it is. They really are unforgivable.

Yep but they are too expensive and councils are going bankrupt dealing with them. So Labour's solution is to reduce access to them.

RazzleDazzleEm · 14/08/2025 19:30

We need honesty not trying to blame other people.
We should have had this from the start .

Ie since the cc we've all ie the world had a decline made worse by COVID ,Ukraine and so on and we will look around the world and in house to see what works and get the best cross party experts on it all.

Yep the 50 billion black hole

We should be concentrating on growing the economy and stimulating growth because that black hole will just keep rising

And reduce accessibility of private schools.

Arrearing50 · 14/08/2025 19:40

There are other possible solutions to reduce the need for EHCPS by not funnelling everyone towards large comprehensives and supporting a diverse range of small schools, considering a part pay model with parents. But no, we’re in an idea free zone.

Yes, parents need MORE choice, not all kids funnelled into a 1 size fits (fails) all!

Arrearing50 · 14/08/2025 20:02

Yes, 1 size fails all - that should be a campaign slogan for what needs to be overturned!

ThatbloodyRoblox · 14/08/2025 20:37

@TheNuthatch re UC claimants look at Feb-Feb figures from Gov UK . You can see the rise in people in receipt of State Pension. If you are a pensioner but your partner isn’t and you are on a low income you claim UC so no housing benefit, instead you move to Housing element of UC.
Which also happens to those on ESA who are now on UC.
ESA migration was one of the last and is still ongoing, therefore of course given those numbers there will be an increase in Universal credit claimants who are in the not required to work bracket.

I've also said in the past and believe we need more choices and types of school.
Rather than these huge scary 70s blocks cramming everyone in so it's all supposedly equal.

Watching BBC reports of Trump’s Alaska meeting with Putin.

Strangely they haven’t sought our Prime Minister’s or Foreign Secretary’s views.

I can understand that Sir Keir is busy, trying to head off public sector strikes. But I don’t see why the intellectual colossus that is Lammy can’t take a few minutes to tell us his thoughts.

Perhaps the BBC and everyone else thinks he’s an irrelevant joke. Who knows.

There’s a hilarious DM article about his stupid answers on Mastermind. I’ll see if I can find a link.

Aha, here it is:

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10276977/amp/David-Lammys-unfortunate-answers-Celebrity-Mastermind-2009-resurface-given-new-role.html

Although the Marie Antoinette answer is the most startlingly stupid, my favourite is actually this one:

Which variety of blue English cheese traditionally accompanies port?
Lammy: Red Leicester
Answer: Stilton

Also, don’t forget that men can grow a cervix. ©️ David Lammy.

🤣🤣🤣🤣 this is brilliant if not rather scary too!
