40th birthday

DH’s big birthday in 41 days. I was laid off and don’t have a job yet so don’t have too much ££££ but can spend about £1k in total.

Looking for some cheap ideas to get the ball rolling. Have a DC and no night childcare available. So can only do day out stuff.

Thank you ☺️

what about a European city break ? If you book flights and air B and B so much cheaper than travel agents . Belfast is cheaper than Dublin for example .
if it’s UK based the malmasion hotels are fab ! The one is Oxford is an old prison they’ve kept the prison aesthetic. They offer a date night package , with a bottle of champagne in the room and a three course meal xx
also air B and B do great random nights in converted trains or aeroplanes etc if he has an interest?
wowcher for maybe driving an F1 car ? Xx

lonelyplanet13 · 28/07/2025 23:44

Wowcher also do £99 holidays . It’s a random destination but it’s fun !

DoneitagainhaventI · 28/07/2025 23:47

£1k ? As in £1000?

I can 't believe that you regard that as not a lot to spend on a birthday present!

Oh the birthday present is already done. We upgraded to a newer (old) car - went from 10 years old car to a (newer) 4 years old car and a better model. I’m looking for “things to do” as a countdown.

Thank you

How is £1k not much to spend? Is this just one of those werid braggy posts?

It’s quite normal to take your child on holiday to celebrate their father’s birthday …. I wouldn’t leave my child at home to celebrate without them

Let me be clear. It’s a max of £1k. I’m not looking to spend all of that.

it’s not a brag. I’m looking for things to do. I’d be happy to do the whole thing within £100. Save the remaining for future.

why are you commenting if you can’t help??

wow. Really I didn’t know. 🫤

I am not talking about the birthday. Omg. It’s a Sunday. Obvs the whole family will be there.

I am talking about the countdown things to do.

Countdown? To a birthday? Is he Jesus?

Seriously, if you’re not working then how are you even considering spending ‘up to’ a grand, especially when it’s not even for his actual birthday?! 🤯

Are you jealous that I can spend a grand on my DH or something else? Maybe you don’t have one. oops.
Also - why do you care about where I’m getting money. How is that troubling you?

This thread is getting ridiculous. I asked for suggestions and so few answered that except questions about where I’m finding money or why am I spending on my own husband.

it is a lovely idea. Go to a nice restaurant. If you are comfortable using a babysitter hire one out of the budget and go do something like you did when you first started dating. For your budget you would get a city break for the family. Enjoy

😂 No, my love. I’ve got a great job and a lot of disposable income. But if I didn’t, I wouldn’t be pissing it up the wall because I’m not a financial idiot.

ClunkyPigeon · 29/07/2025 10:15

Also it is absolutely hilarious that the biggest flex you can imagine is mocking someone for (supposedly) not having a husband. Go feminism!

I know, but the OP specifically said she wanted day out stuff, not overnights.

I'm not sure ehat it is you're looking for. Is it something to do on his birthday? An activity for a gift?
Can you clarify?

A range of activities. I am not looking for one activity to spend all of my money. I’m after multiple smallish activities/ projects/ events.

Ie, maybe 5 -7 activities. 1 football club related perhaps . 2 days out - experiences. 2-3 nice smallish presents. On his birthday weekend we will go to Sky garden in London because he’s never been there and has been asking me for a long time. And I have seen children can go there during day time. So that’s fixed.

His main interest is football ⚽️ and cricket🏏

There is no flex. 🙏🏻 This is genuinely me asking for ideas on what different / fun things can be done.

Why exactly are you on MN and not working then on a Tuesday morning.

Because not everyone has office hours or a boss 🙊 Added benefit that no one can fire me either.

Today!

41 days of events to warm him up for his birthday? I applaud your commitment to celebrating him but good godfathers, I honestly couldn't be arsed to spend the brain power coming up with an obstacle course of delights for the month preceeding anyones' birthday.

What did he do for your 40th?

He gave me 30 gifts for 30th! I can’t do 40 gifts. But I can do 5 maybe? One every weekend I was thinking.

my 40th will be in a few years.

I appreciate that it’s not everyone’s cup of tea but we do celebrate each other and love and give each other some presents that they won’t necessarily buy for themselves or use this summertime and do activities as a family.
