Has anyone never been single?

I mean obviously at one point you were, but has anyone never really been alone in adult life? My example, in a relationship from 15 to 19. I was single for 3 months, then met DH. We are still together, 25 years later. I have never known adult life as a single woman. This isn’t a complaint, I’m just wondering how common it is?

No, I haven't since 17 and I actually if I had my time again I would choose to be single after uni finished and not gone to live with my boyfriend at the time.

IMissSparkling · 28/07/2025 20:05

So you're mid 40s now? I'd say that's very unusual. I'm the same age and I don't know any woman my age who has never been single.

NoSourDough · 28/07/2025 20:05

I agree, I encourage my DD to have her freedom and not rush into a relationship.

Yep, 45. I had 3 months of being on my own at 19 then met my DH. So that’s only two partners as well.

I’ve not been single in my adult life and I’m in my 30s. I know plenty of women in all stages of life that are the same. It’s not that uncommon

holysmokee · 28/07/2025 20:08

Me! I met DH at 15 and there’s been no breaks or separations. I’ve been with him longer than I was alive without him and I would do it the same if I had my time again.

I’ve been told I’m missing out but I have never even had a fleeting desire to be single or with anyone else.

TeenLifeMum · 28/07/2025 20:11

I dated a guy for a year age 17-19 then had 2 months before starting to date dh at 19. I’m 43 and still with him. Never planned to marry or stay with one man (after first boyfriend who was awful) but met dh and didn’t want anyone else by my side. I still feel the same.

PoxyAndIKnowIt · 28/07/2025 20:12

Nope. Never been single.
Got together with DH when I was 19. Dumped the one before to do so.
We're 56 and 60 now!

dora1234m · 28/07/2025 20:14

Me I met my husband at 17. Still together 23 years later. I know a few women who are similar.

This sounds like my story! First boyfriend was awful, complete contrast from my lovely DH.

I know quite a few people who married their first teenage boyfriend/girlfriend and are still together now in their 40's/50's.

Superstar22 · 28/07/2025 20:17

I’ve never been single. BF aged 14-21, met DH at 21. Now 40.

FishPie2 · 28/07/2025 20:21

Met my late husband at 19 and married 6 months later and together until he passed away just before our 60th wedding anniversary.
Don't want another partner at my age but hate not having company. Don't suggest a cat or dog, no thanks to them. 😊

ChompandaGrazia · 28/07/2025 20:21

Nope. First proper boyfriend at 15. Was with him until I went to 6th form and met someone more exciting. Then off to uni, met someone else and swapped again. Then met DH.

DramaAlpaca · 28/07/2025 20:23

I'm 61 and I've never been single. I've been constantly in a committed relationship since I was 18. I was with someone I met at university for five years, then at 23 left him for DH, who I've been with ever since. It's funny, but I've never really thought about it before now, it's just how it's been.

CommissarySushi · 28/07/2025 20:26

I got married at 19 and moved straight from my mum's house, to our home as a married couple.

I do sometimes feel sad that I've never had time by myself to be completely independent, but I wouldn't change anything.

Iloveeverycat · 28/07/2025 20:27

No met DH at 16 we are both 60 now.

Just by reading this thread it doesn’t seem that unusual. I’m almost 40 and not been single since I was about 16

DanceMumTaxi · 28/07/2025 20:39

Met my dh just after my 19th birthday. Not been single since then, which is nearly 25 years now.

LightBlueJeans · 28/07/2025 20:44

No, never been single really. Various 'boyfriends' from about year 8, just to text/hold hands with/occasionally kiss on the school field/gossip with your friends about during sleepovers.

1 proper boyfriend from age 14 to 17 who I lost my virginity to age 16. He broke up with me as I was going to university 300 miles away from our hometown and he didn't want to do long distance. I still remember how heartbroken I felt at the time and I do still think of him sometimes when a song about first love comes on! Not seen or spoken to him in about 11 years.

However, it definitely worked out for the best as I met DH a couple of months' later during freshers week and from the evening we met the rest is history! We've been together 12 years now and married for 7. He's my best friend and soul mate ❤️

icebearforpresident · 28/07/2025 20:52

Got together with my now husband a few months after I turned 17, he had just turned 18. Moved in together just before I graduated at 22, married at 27, first baby at 28, second at 30. I turned 40 last
month and we’re still happily married.

StrawberryCranberry · 28/07/2025 20:58

I've never been single for longer than 3 months. I had three boyfriends between ages 15 to 22, got together with DH on my 23rd birthday and have been with him ever since.

okydokethen · 28/07/2025 21:05

I’ve only had one relationship, 17-41
id quite like to leave him now though

atiaofthejulii · 28/07/2025 21:07

I'm currently single, have been for nearly 6 months (not by choice, bereaved) and at the age of 54 this is the longest I've been single since I was 18.

dayslikethese1 · 28/07/2025 21:15

I know lots of ppl who have been together since v early 20s (now late 30s), myself included. So only single for a few years or maybe 1-2 boyfriends before they got married. Longest couple I know have been together since 16. So maybe not that unusual though it seems to be looked down on in the culture for some reason.
