What make/model of old car would you like to own?

Provided you don't already. Anything out of production, any age. I have two.

-Chrysler Avenger, preferably a saloon but I'll settle for an estate. Has to be
Chrysler too, not the earlier Hillman. I prefer the lights! I've always had a lot of
time for Rootes Group cars on account of their styling. Similarly, I like the
Chrysler 180 (an enlarged Avenger) and the Sunbeam Rapier and Alpine.

• Riley/Wolseley Elf. A neat and rather smarter Mini with an extended boot. My

elderly neighbour had one decades ago. It just kept going. The grey colour was a little dull but the car itself was grand.

The Mark 2 BMW 3-series is the only BMW I would own now, given how ugly the newer models are and the bad driver reputation they have. The Mk2 3 is the perfect compact saloon.

Ford Mustang or one of Cate Culps Beetles.

I've completely forgotten the Triumph TR7. I thought it was so cool the way the headlights popped up

Aston Martin DB4, my partner owned a soft top Triumph Vitesse for awhile and that was a good drive

I'd like a Mk1 Golf Gti, black with the red trimarpund the front. Or a 1985 Audi Quattro in red or white. Or, ideally, in rally colours.

@TheTecknician@Shade17actually that does ring a bell in my head when he was talking about it yesterday (we were at a funeral for a friend of his who loved classic cars, and there were about 40 of them at the wake) i couldn't tell you what they were (in fact when one of his friends asked if i knew what a car was, I told them it was a red/blue/white one) despite multiple car lessons from OH I dont seem to take anything in!

Plus side if i now mention an e30 he'll think ive remembered something, so thanks guys 🤣

Renault 4.

The perfect car. Tiny. Bench seat at the front so seated 6 in 'comfort' (we were young). Reliable. Nippy. Could park it anywhere. Had a really fun gear lever sticking out of the front dash for changing gear with a flourish.

Mine even had a hole in the front bumper where you could insert a crank handle and start the engine manually if necessary (it never was).

TBH I'd be just as happy to have back my Mini 1275 GT with its folding sunroof. I say 'back' but I'd like it fully restored and magically able to tolerate rain this time. Loved that car 🚗

Fiat X19, try finding one that hasn’t had to be swept up and put in the bin.

A Mercedes 123 series from the early 80s. They aren’t expensive as classics go but it would have a miserable life with my feral toddlers in inner London so I just admire them from afar for now.

@Shade17 Well yes but no one referred to them as that. We had a black BMW325i circa 1986. D reg! A very enjoyable car! We also had a C reg Lotus Excel. That was actually my car and I loved it. Would not mind having another one!

We had a Morris Minor in 1963
My dad drove us from the NE of Scotland to Belgium in it to visit the family he'd stayed with during the war.
Sadly I was only 1 so can't remember it

That was my first car! A reg, bought it for 500 quid in 1990 and sold it 3 years later for the same price. Loved it.

Does my Fantasy Car come with a Fantasy On Call Mechanic who will rush to my side , pop the bonnet and rummage about then say "That;s it sorted Love , it was your distributer cap"

( I am fine with being called 'Love' by my Fantasy Mechanic BTW )
