Provided you don't already. Anything out of production, any age. I have two.

-Chrysler Avenger, preferably a saloon but I'll settle for an estate. Has to be
Chrysler too, not the earlier Hillman. I prefer the lights! I've always had a lot of
time for Rootes Group cars on account of their styling. Similarly, I like the
Chrysler 180 (an enlarged Avenger) and the Sunbeam Rapier and Alpine.

  • Riley/Wolseley Elf. A neat and rather smarter Mini with an extended boot. My
elderly neighbour had one decades ago. It just kept going. The grey colour was a little dull but the car itself was grand.

I'd love to drive my old Peugeot 205 again. Loved that car, one of Top Gear's top hot hatches!

I would have to have two. A VW Beetle - I had a 1971 bright orange one called Clementine as a student. That would be my day to day car.

Then for my weekend car, a VW Karmann Ghia convertible. Something like this one. I used to get VW magazine as a teenager, dreaming away about both of these cars!

Powder blue E Type Jag. Always been my dream car. If I was really rich I would get an Eagle one
Jaguar E-Types for Sale from Eagle E-Types https://share.google/FqZvcYGVKOM8v54F7

Classic Mini first and foremost as it’s a super fun car and I’ve had Mini all my life.
Secondly a Chevy Side Step something like this. Some of them have meaner looking front grilles

3 litre Capri.

Capri was an utterly lethal car. Was a passenger in a 2 litre one that upon approaching a roundabout decided to suddenly spin; we under up in a nearby ditch in the blink of an eye…

Cant imagine what a 3l one would be like😳

itbemay1 · 26/07/2025 09:39

Golf karmen gti in white

TizerorFizz · 26/07/2025 09:45

@TheTecknicianWe had a Dolomite Sprint. It was 2 litre 16 valve. So not the 1500. They also had 2 overdrive gears on the manual gearbox so reasonably potent and as quick as the Ford RS2000. We replaced our Dolly with the RS. Dolly Sprints did have an overheating problem but ours was ok when we had it. Would I buy another one? No. I’d want a DB5 or 6. Or a Merc convertible. I’ve got a 1991 Merc 280SL but an older one would be nice!

I passed my test in a Triumph Dolomite. I loved that car even though it was bright yellow 😃

My Grandad had a green one. I remember it being quiet and smooth. He liked his cars.

I'd like a Rolls.

muddyford · 26/07/2025 10:04

A grey Austin A35, like my father had. It took four adults and two children on holiday!

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 26/07/2025 10:45

I’m not bothered, but I’m sure dh would love his old MGB, white, open top, wire wheels and leather seats. Sadly he had to flog it before going to work abroad in the 70s. Very flash at the time, though.

I learned to drive in a Dolomite. Maroon with walnut interior. Deeply un groovy but a solid vehicle.

My dream car is 1950s.60s Porsche 356

Edited

My first car was a 205, black. Not a sporty model but boy racers always thought it was due to the colour and tried to race me from the lights. It did have the minor fault that if you went through a big puddle it would cut out. Not good if you left it overnight in damp weather either. Still miss it.
I would like either a yellow 2CV or a very old dark green short wheelbase land rover.

ImWearingPantaloons · 26/07/2025 11:15

Austin 1100

TheTecknician · 26/07/2025 11:25

There's a well preserved Triumph Herald estate outside the coffee shop this morning. Shame it's painted a very dull grey!

I'd love to have my red Renault 5 GTX back. I've got a boring, but very reliable, Honda Jazz Crosstar. Thinking of getting a Mini Countryman.

We've got a Defender 110. Had it for years & love it😊

RaraRachael · 26/07/2025 13:25

Oh I did love a Ford Capri. Such an iconic design

Zippedydodah · 26/07/2025 13:32

E Type Jaguar in British racing green please 🙏

TizerorFizz · 26/07/2025 18:31

@itsmeafterall The Dolomite Sprint was very different. A lot quicker!

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 26/07/2025 18:43

A Triumph (Herald or Spitfire) would be the dream but, having got used to my little electric car I don't think I'll ever want to go back to an ICE.

I want a 1997 Ford Puma. Black with black windows or silver with mirrored windows.

I had one, and I loved it. One of my favourites and surprisingly fun and nippy to drive. An XR2 with a curvy body and drove like a go cart. Really really regretted selling it, but I sold it for a MX-5 which was another brilliant car and I loved it too but the 2 seater just wasn't practical. Would have either of them again today.

I always had a thing for the MGB. There was a car garage near me, when I was a teenager, and there was a stunning cream one, which had been upholstered in cream leather with blue pinstriping and blue carpet and trim inside. It was insanely classy. I wouldn't just want an MGB - I would want that one

Early 70s Datsun Cherry. So beautifully dated-looking. Doubt there are many left now that aren't a heap of rust somewhere.

My partner adores classic fords, currently has a mk2 escort ghia and a mk2 escort van. Apparently the van was "endgame" the one he'd always wanted (had one 25yrs ago and always regretted selling it) but now he's talking about selling it and buying something a bit more "fun" for me to drive. Possibly an older BMW (I know precisely nothing about old cars)
