Strange occurrence - would value opinions!

This is going to sound absolutely ridiculous but it's true, I promise!

This morning when I got up there was a rich tea biscuit in my bed! (I'm cringing just writing this). How the bloody buggery did it get there - it 100% wasn't there when I went to sleep!

So I currently do have rich tea in the kitchen, in a biscuit tin, in a cupboard. I also currently have 3 of my adult dc here. I also have a dog.

However, I also always lock my bedroom door - always have done - so the boys couldn't have got in even if they had suddenly decided it would be hilarious to put a biscuit in my bed. And also, even if the dog could somehow mysteriously find her way into my room (she couldn't - it's locked and she's not too bright), she's only little and couldn't reach the biscuit tin.

The only possible explanation I can think of is that I got up, unlocked my door, got myself to the kitchen, helped myself to some rich tea (which I don't particularly like), got myself back to my room, locked my door, lovingly tucked the biscuit in next to me - and all in my sleep!

Is that even possible? I'm not aware I've ever sleepwalked before but who knows? Maybe I've been up to all sorts without even realising. I suppose eating biscuits in my sleep would account for the failure of my many diets. There's no other explanation I can think of but I'm open to all suggestions!

There is a condition k on as SRED - sleep related eating disorder which could explain this!

Pourtea · 24/07/2025 13:22

Really? Well that would account for it. But wouldn't I have at least some memory of all that night time activity?! So strange.

No idea on the biscuit but intrigued about locking yourself in your bedroom, that's very unusual isn't it?

Whatareyoutalkingaboutnow · 24/07/2025 13:44

I wish I woke up to biscuits in bed, preferably hob nobs, with a cup of tea too!

I started doing it when I started to live alone and now I do it automatically.

🤣🤣

Maybe the natural progression will be to making cups of tea. I could live with that!

Maybe it stuck to your clothing downstairs, pre-bedtime, then made its way to your bed if you wore any of that clothing in bed afterwards, or disrobed on the bed?😆

EligibleTern · 24/07/2025 15:09

Was the tin in its usual place this morning?

letstrythis · 24/07/2025 15:13

There’s only one thing to do… call Danny Robins!

Tutorpuzzle · 24/07/2025 15:19

What breed is your dog?…if it is any sort of spaniel you need to be aware they have mystical powers of invisibility when either beds or biscuits are in the vicinity. Doubly so when it involves both!

MsSmartShoes · 24/07/2025 15:24

Could one of your sons have tucked it into your bed before you went up?
please ask them - I’d like to know the answer.

Battleforthesun · 24/07/2025 15:25

I sometimes sleep walk - I’ve woken up in the morning with my husbands work uniform on before so it’s possible to have done it in your sleep 🤣

Glitchymn1 · 24/07/2025 15:25

Had you eaten them in the evening? Could one have dropped in your nightwear?

TheNightingalesStarling · 24/07/2025 15:26

We once found our DD1 in the "library" (an alcove where her books were kept, we didn't live in a mansion!) Reading a book, in the dark. Completely asleep.

DD2 recently gave a very enthusiastic and accurate lecture on the correct way to make a cup of tea while she was asleep. To the amusement of the other teenagers she was she sharing a tent with on camp.

DH has walked a mile in his sleep.

So yes... People can do very odd things!

Spidey66 · 24/07/2025 15:28

I occasionally sleepwalk under stress, and while I've not brought a biscuit to bed I did try and boil an egg one time.

MsNevermore · 24/07/2025 15:30

Were you downstairs in your PJs?

I once woke up and to my horror thought that toddler dd had left a poop nugget in my bed…..then realised it was a square of the dairy milk chocolate I’d had the night before that had stuck to the leg of my pj bottoms 🫣🫠🫠🫠

I used to sleep eat, it is a thing.

I lived alone with my daughter who would have been 6 at the time. I'd invited my Nan over for lunch the next day. I did my usual lasagne but the day before as she had to be at Pensioner's Voice for 1.30!

Woke up in a right mess. Pillows stained with what could only be lasagne grease. Lasagne in my hair. Mince on the quilt.
I opened the fridge and there was a massive hole in the middle of the lasagne.
I'd clearly come down and helped myself to a handful early!

It happened quite often, I'd sometimes get up - 3 packets of crisps, half a pack of biscuits, a bite out of the feta 😭

It's so strange thinking of it now, but it was so common at one point that daughter would know due to the mess left behind. Have you been sleep eating Mum?
Erm...

I think I read, don't quote me (probably read whilst asleep shoving lasagne in face) that it's due to a big drop in blood sugar whilst sleeping and your body just gets up to fix it...

Hmmm. I may have made that up. However the food scoffing was quite a big thing.
Who's eaten all the packed lunch bits... Ohhh... Me...

It's not happened for years now.

I had a nice night with some left over chow mein too according to the bed!

I once rang a friend when asleep - didn’t speak (thankfully) so was like like some creepy caller. He knew me well enough not to call the police or come around, but to put it down to sleepwalking.
I didn’t believe it until I got the phone bill and yes there was an early morning call to my friend.
It worried me a lot at the time as I felt I could walk out into the street and bang the front door shut.

Omg I texted my then boss at 2am to tell him that we needed to talk about the sheep.

We were working on a project, everything was very expensive and the pinboard felt had to be pure wool. It was clearly stressing me.

MyHonestFaves · 24/07/2025 15:37

It’s totally possible you sleepwalked, people can do surprisingly normal things like eating or unlocking doors without remembering. It might’ve just been a one-off, but if it keeps happening, maybe mention it to your GP. You’re definitely not alone in this kind of weirdness.

🤣 I wasn't inspecting anything. I was shovelling it in. Or trying to!

Omg I'd love to sleep buffet. Celery sticks would bring bring me round sharpish though!!

That is amazing. I need to know what he does for a living so I can try and picture it….

TheBuffetInspector · 24/07/2025 15:44

My favourite...

I had to share a bed with my daughter for a couple of years whilst waiting to be housed (kicked out of private rented after 10 years so he could add 300 to rent).

She actually started writing down what I'd say in my sleep, but one night I was...

Daughter, daughter (rocking her gently) daughter, wake up... She sleepily said What?
I said Shut up!
🤣

To be fair, she booted me in the back one night - Ow! Sorry, she said I thought you were (insert brothers name) 😂

Love sleep.
