Strange occurrence - would value opinions!

This is going to sound absolutely ridiculous but it's true, I promise!

This morning when I got up there was a rich tea biscuit in my bed! (I'm cringing just writing this). How the bloody buggery did it get there - it 100% wasn't there when I went to sleep!

So I currently do have rich tea in the kitchen, in a biscuit tin, in a cupboard. I also currently have 3 of my adult dc here. I also have a dog.

However, I also always lock my bedroom door - always have done - so the boys couldn't have got in even if they had suddenly decided it would be hilarious to put a biscuit in my bed. And also, even if the dog could somehow mysteriously find her way into my room (she couldn't - it's locked and she's not too bright), she's only little and couldn't reach the biscuit tin.

The only possible explanation I can think of is that I got up, unlocked my door, got myself to the kitchen, helped myself to some rich tea (which I don't particularly like), got myself back to my room, locked my door, lovingly tucked the biscuit in next to me - and all in my sleep!

Is that even possible? I'm not aware I've ever sleepwalked before but who knows? Maybe I've been up to all sorts without even realising. I suppose eating biscuits in my sleep would account for the failure of my many diets. There's no other explanation I can think of but I'm open to all suggestions!

The weirdest thing here is that you actually buy rich tea biscuits which are possibly the worst biscuits imaginable.

Finding an uneaten hobnob or malted milk would have been a much better experience.

tumblingdowntherabbithole · 24/07/2025 16:00

A friend of mine at school ate half a loaf of bread in her sleep - she woke up with loads of crumbs in her bed and the rest of the bread on the bedroom floor.

People can do really odd things when they're sleeping!

Pourtea · 24/07/2025 16:07

I'm relieved to hear that others sleep eat (and in a much more "hands on" way than it looks like I've done - looking at you @TheBuffetInspector)! But why would I suddenly start doing it? Or maybe I've been doing it for years.

I definitely wasn't eating any rich tea last night, I don't particularly like them but got some in for one of my dc. All 3 are denying responsibility - no change there then :). But actually I'm certain it wasn't there before I went to sleep. I had the bed turned down to air it so would have seen it.

The dog is a miniature dachshund. I want to know about @Battleforthesun's husband's uniform too!

Hahaha - he’s a tradesman so think combat trousers and polo t-shirt - nothing too exciting 🤣 I fully took my own PJs off and changed into his clothes though - after my initial bafflement in the morning we both found it hilariously funny 🤣

It's a bit worrying what our subconscious minds tell us to do isn't it?! My subconscious is obviously very boring if all it can think of is bringing rich tea to bed!

It could at least have been a choco Leibniz, or a Chocolate Digestive. You was robbed!

Maybe it stuck to your clothing downstairs, pre-bedtime, then made its way to your bed if you wore any of that clothing in bed afterwards, or disrobed on the bed?😆

Aah yes, the famously Velcro-like properties of the rich tea biscuit …

This really made me laugh, @Icantbelieveitsnotnutter, imagining someone wandering about with half a dozen biscuits clinging unnoticed to their arse and their slippers and the back of their head 😂

Hmm. You have perhaps seen me the morning after the night before :). Not last night though.

TheBuffetInspector · 24/07/2025 17:56

That's right, point me out @Pourtea 😂

I've no idea why. I'm more worried that you reached for a Rich Tea, clearly needing sugar and then just laid down on it! Have you had RT squirreling urges before?!!

Haha. I honestly don't know. The lasagne incident was when we'd just moved in to our new house. Maybe it's a stress thing.
Robbie Williams once spoke about sleep eating. Years ago but I remembered because, well, I woke up in a lasagned mess!
Sorry Nan, crispy edges only, might want to prep your teeth!

Pourtea · 24/07/2025 18:19

I feel we have a lot in common @TheBuffetInspector, we are kindred souls even if I'd never heard of sleep eating before today!

I've never had any rich tea urges before, let alone squirrelling ones. It's a mystery!

TheKeeperOfTissues · 25/07/2025 18:16

I have caught out by sleep eating.
I was highly stressed at the time and fortunately the hotel were very kind about chocolate in the bed.
I, however had zero chocolate on me, despite having apparently eaten a fair amount of the brownie (that the hotel left gratis) 🤷🏻‍♀️🤣

Jenjeng · 25/07/2025 18:24

I can't help with the biscuit mystery I'm afraid, but wanted to share my food related odd occurrence from this week. We were standing in the kitchen chatting when we heard a loud bang and clattering noise. We went to investigate and discovered a tube of pringles had landed on the conservatory and emptied itself out all over the roof and patio. We have absolutely no idea where they could have come from! I like to think there was a hang glider flying over head, peeved that he'd lost his mid flight snack!

CoralOP · 25/07/2025 19:09

My friend once "had a horrible dream" that her dead grandparents came over for a cup of tea and they were sitting chatting.
She got up and there was 3 cups of tea she had made in her sitting room, hers had been drunk.
So she had made 3 cups of tea and drank one all in her sleep so you may well of raided the biscuit tin!

cyvguhb · 24/07/2025 13:33

No idea on the biscuit but intrigued about locking yourself in your bedroom, that's very unusual isn't it?

Agreed !

Harleyband · 25/07/2025 19:15

As I've gotten older (menopausal) my sleep walking tendencies from my youth have resurfaced. I've never sleep-eaten but I frequently dream I'm wandering around a different house and wake up in another room of my own house- very disorienting. I'm sure I'll end up in the kitchen one day.

Ooothatsagoodone · 25/07/2025 19:21

Pourtea · 24/07/2025 13:22

Really? Well that would account for it. But wouldn't I have at least some memory of all that night time activity?! So strange.

Did you or your family have the bicuits out and you sat on one transferring it to your bed?

DiscoBob · 25/07/2025 19:23

It's sleep eating. Do you feel bloated in the morning, anything in your mouth stuck to teeth?

What a waste of Pringles! 😂

Pourtea · 25/07/2025 19:36

@IHateEmptyPockets do you have red kites in your area - maybe they nicked some Pringles from somewhere and underestimated how heavy they were!

@Ooothatsagoodone no we didn't have the biscuits out.

@DiscoBob i guess it must me but I'm slightly disappointed in myself that I went for something as boring (and something I don't like) as rich tea!

caramac04 · 25/07/2025 20:01

You must have been sleep eating. I mean I prefer to leave my bedroom door open and I’ve never had so much as an unexplained crumb

828Pax · 25/07/2025 20:03

My mum eats a lot during the night when asleep!

AJLOAL · 25/07/2025 20:45

TheBuffetInspector · 24/07/2025 15:31

I used to sleep eat, it is a thing.

I lived alone with my daughter who would have been 6 at the time. I'd invited my Nan over for lunch the next day. I did my usual lasagne but the day before as she had to be at Pensioner's Voice for 1.30!

Woke up in a right mess. Pillows stained with what could only be lasagne grease. Lasagne in my hair. Mince on the quilt.
I opened the fridge and there was a massive hole in the middle of the lasagne.
I'd clearly come down and helped myself to a handful early!

It happened quite often, I'd sometimes get up - 3 packets of crisps, half a pack of biscuits, a bite out of the feta 😭

It's so strange thinking of it now, but it was so common at one point that daughter would know due to the mess left behind. Have you been sleep eating Mum?
Erm...

I think I read, don't quote me (probably read whilst asleep shoving lasagne in face) that it's due to a big drop in blood sugar whilst sleeping and your body just gets up to fix it...

Hmmm. I may have made that up. However the food scoffing was quite a big thing.
Who's eaten all the packed lunch bits... Ohhh... Me...

It's not happened for years now.

I had a nice night with some left over chow mein too according to the bed!

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

isthismylifenow · 25/07/2025 20:54

Do you take sleeping tablets?

One of my friends made an entire curry from scratch during the night. He didn't remember a thing. 😂

The only reason he knows it happened is because his partner took a video of him doing it.

foodymcfoodface · 25/07/2025 20:54

Curious, but did you notice any rich tea evidence in your mouth when you woke or crumbs in your hand??
